I think a majority of the season ticket holders are from VA, but it doesn’t matter.  Fans aren’t coming back even if they do win.  The only way fans will ever come back to FED-EX or the new stadium, is if Dan is no longer the owner.  Maybe if they have 2-3 years in a row of playoff appearances, with an NFC Championship/SUPERBOWL, that might bring some fans back, but the days of full stadiums filled with Washington fans are over.

The franchise has lost an entire generations of fans. I was at a bar before a Caps game in downtown DC watching the WFT/Bucs and I remember literally being the only fan in the bar cheering when Washington scored a TD. They didn't even have the sound on for the game! They had the cowboys game sound on. It was truly unbelievable.

You don’t get it maryland  team fans will migrate to Baltimore at a much higher rate then they are currently doing so.

there are over one million redskins fans in montgomery and prince george’s counties.
these folks won’t follow a team that abandoned the name, told them they are not worth **** and move to Dumfries.

My son is 31. He grew up a redskins fan. I had Frank Sam and Sonny wish him a happy 1st birthday and a happy second birthday over the game broadcast. We recorded them and still have them on a vhs where I recorded every game with the radio broadcast overdubbed.
he had gone to atleast 1 game a year since he was 2. This year he said to me let’s go to a caps game and not a wft game this year. I was almost devastated by this.

he follows the team but doesn’t get upset if they lose , it’s all he has ever known.

if they move to dumfries I may give up on them and pray that the nfl tells Dan to call

them the Virginia commanders and gives DC a new team.

Why would the NFL do that. The NY Giants and Jets play in New Jersey.

My point was that the NFL would never make a team change their name because of where their stadium is. If they did that, We'd be the MD Commanders.

The current stadium is 3-4 miles from DC.

if the stadium were built in Virginia and only 3-4 miles from dc I would have no issues , but when it’s 35 miles south of dc on a highway with traffic that is awful 24/7 and would almost be as fast for me to drive to Philadelphia as to get do dumfries and only 20 mins to get to ravens empty bank stadium, why would I drive in 95 south bound traffic and go insane to watch a team that told me to go to hell

That is not even close to the same thing.

Isn't it though? Besides, having stadiums away from the city isn't exactly shocking. Inglewood isn't exactly in downtown LA. Arlington is something of a haul from Dallas. And Santa Clara is pretty darn far away from San Francisco. And that's not counting the more generic teams, like Arizona or New England, which aren't in downtown Boston or Phoenix. But at least the locations reflect that. I'd get why someone from Maryland wouldn't want the stadium that far into Virginia, but that's a personal preference. A reasonable one, to be sure. But such a move is not exactly an unusual one for an NFL team. Whether its a smart move is another question, maybe the 49ers would be the best test study.

The issue is the traffic in Virginia makes the traffic in Maryland look decent.

I worked in McLean for 2 years and Herndon for a year. The time spent getting across the river was insane.
putting it near leesburg may be okay - if they get whites ferry running , but down 81 or 95 would be insane .
it would be like putting the stadium in Frederick or Hagerstown

No one that I know or seen in this thread wants a stadium in Dumfries.

I'm convinced this even coming up from the team is desperation to find somewhere to put the stadium in VA if Dulles falls through (think last resort, not first).

Having said that, Hagerstown is 70+ miles from DC, Dulles is less then 30.

But Maryland fans are abandoning the team despite being in Maryland.

It doesn't matter where the stadium is if we keep losing and caught up in scandals one after the other.

Something has to change regardless of where the stadium is.  It's more likely we start winning then thr scandals going away, and if they do, awesome, there's no rule that fans stay fans based on how hard it is to go to the stadium, most fans have never been to a game or at least rarely go anyway.

Dulles is still closer them Baltimore.  And for the sake of this conversation, we should stop talking about the Dumfries site unless Dulles falls through, Dulles is the most likely location if it ends up in VA, stop making your case against VA predicated on the stadium being in Dumfries, the odds of that happening aren't zero but pretty damn close.

I do not understand what the problem is if a stadium is going to be built in Dumfries. The location is going to be near a Casino as well. The proposed area is really nice my wife and I were looking to have our house built in Potomac Shores. I do not get why MD fans feel that if a stadium is built in VA  all of the MD Commanders fans twill become Raven fans. The hot lanes being located down to Dumfries will better help with Traffic Additionally, the other problem is that they would have to build in exits for the stadiums that would circumvent residential areas. The other issue is resolving public transportation I know the train runs down that way.

The issue is not distance it’s time

to travel from Rockville to Hagerstown is an hour on non rush hour time  And the time to dumfries from Rockville is one hour.

95 is awful and the american Legion bridge is insane to cross. And with the construction on the bridge coming in 2-3 years and taking h 5-7 years to complete is going to screw it all up even more.

as much as I can’t stand landover it is one of the best sites since it has metro within a mile and only 4 miles to dc.

the best sites in my opinion are Rfk or national harbor

There is no way the trains will run on Sundays for football games.

I lived in Woodbridge 20 years ago and the traffic was a nightmare even back then. It's two or three times worse now, from what my friends tell me. People complain about getting to Landover, for cryin out loud. Getting to Dumfries would be brutal. By the way, the I-95 HOT lanes would be no help; they run northbound on Sunday, from what I recall. I guess that policy could be modified on game days. All those Eagles and Giants fans attending the games would be backed up to...Landover. :D

The Dumfries site would be a disaster. Nobody wants to go to a football game down there. Nobody wants to go to a casino down there. It's a joke. The other mentioned teams in recent posts have stadiums closer to the urban center than that, even if they're in different jurisdictions.

The Dulles site is marginally better, but I predict the community opposition will be truly epic. It'll make what JKC faced in trying to get a stadium at Potomac Yards seem minor.

My understanding from when I was a season ticket holder and the org used to have meetings with us about a new stadium - as well as listening to Cooley discuss it when he used to have a radio show - the bulk of season ticket holders (back then) were from northern Virginia.

so, this idea they’ll lose fans… I’m not so sure that’s backed up by actual data.

It sounds nice and logical. Doesn’t fit anything I’ve actually heard about who’s who though.

I've heard this as well, but didn't have any stats to back it, so left it alone (thanks for sharing that)

He'll, when I lived in Hampton Roads for 10 years, I still came to games, and would routinely run into people at the game who did the same.

The Training Camp in Richmond is another example of jus how many fans are already from VA (this is merely by talking to folks, kinda gotta expect most license plates to be VA, so didn't want to use that as evidence here)
