Even though I’m happy to see Trump banned from Twitter, I know that in the long run it will drive us all further into dangerous echo chambers.  There’s no choice to deplatform on the Internet, because they’ll just set up a different one that’s only for them which makes it even easier to manipulate.  Like they’ve done with media.

If we don’t tackle this issue 100% right now, then it doesn’t matter what we or don’t do.

this is a festering wound. The choices are clear.

Meh. I don't feel that bad for Mitt either. Yes he did vote to remove Trump, but beyond that he's never done much more than offer the same milquetoast "concerns" that Susan Collins has whenever Trump has done something despicable over the past 4 years.

My either. I mean I think the harassment was not right. But not feeling like he did enough at all. He talked alot but then voted along with everyone else anyway. A few times he seperated himself but mostly jsut went with the crowd. Mostly the Kavanaugh vote bothers to be honest.

I think right wing folks will get tired of Parler super quick. Social media is about interactions with others. How you going to own any libs when you participating in a circle jerk? There's a reason Parler numbers keep going down.

Also. Rereading your post got me thinking and...

Just for a bit of cynicism. If the tech leaders and other giant corporate leaders looked around and saw dictstorships where people like them were allowed to do what they do now, instead of looking around and seeing companies owned by the state... I don’t know.

They want to claim morality but this **** didn’t start Wednesday.

And while I would agree it’s jarring to see the Capitol overrun, it wasn’t exactly surprising.

Like... what was surprising was how easily it happened. How few people were killed in the process cause they kinda just walked in...

I don’t know. I get weary when someone makes a big move claiming morality and it’s way, way late into the game.

Congress has to pass any admission of a new state into the union, but does that vote have to pass cloture or would it be a simple majority?

Yes a simple majority of both the house and senate is all that is needed.

Make DC and Puerto Rico states asap.

Da fuq is Rumble? Parlers more racist cousin?

We’re talking about people that walked away from every respectable media source and made **** like Newsmax and OAN successful.  People that are happy to listen to crazy talk radio.  If you don’t think the right wing will create a successful social media alternative you’re lying to yourself.  If anything social media is the easiest to replace.

Serious question, what's to keep Parler from becoming the fox News of the Twitter world?

It's great news that Twitter suspended his account but it feels like Parler could replace it very easily.

His followers aren't going away until he does so how do we prevent him from getting another huge platform?

If it was easy it would already be done. Even a company like Google couldn't make a successful social media platform. Listening to a radio station or watching tv is more passive. The interaction is what makes social media  entertaining especially if you trying to be like Twitter. People are going to be interacting on a platform with not that many people and everyone shares their same opinion. It's going to get really boring quick. Not to mention Parler will be off app stores pretty soon. If we're still talking about Parler in 3 years, I'll be shocked.

ultimately you have to work with others. Financial instructions and advertisement could refuse to cooperate. Or, maybe the only ones willing are not ones that fits their user model and growth plans...

pronhub didn’t suddenly realize they had a child /seedy porn problem and immediately make sure to defend their morality.

credit card agencies suspended their ability to do transactions and make money.

and within a week every video not published by a verified industry source was removed and all non-verified industry accounts were suspended and new accounts were disallowed.

the answer to all of your questions is: money

Not about age - it's about being a radical right wing nutcase. No reason for you to search out some bull**** like Rumble (I have no idea what it is either - just know if that's where these idiots are going tells me what it is).

If I told you 30 years ago right wingers will have walked away from mainstream media entirely, how do you think that would have sounded to you? Would you have believed that they’d be so removed from just basic news that they’d live in a fantasy word where they’re spoon fed absurd lie after lie and believe it?  Yet that’s what happened.  They replaced all media.

But you’re really going to sit here today, knowing all that, and say Twitter is too much for them to overcome?  Twitter is bull**** most Americans aren’t even on.

You can’t ban ideas on the internet.  They just move to the next place.  Look at “The Donald” on Reddit.  It was bad so they banned it.  It moved, perhaps with less follower but certainly no small number.... and it became far worse.
