GOP candidate promising to protect children from LGBTQ+ people faced child cruelty charges

Louisiana’s Republican Party has endorsed a candidate who who is promising to protect children from LGBTQ+ people – but has been charged with four counts of criminal cruelty to children.

John Raymond, the lead minister of New Horizon Church in Slidell and the founder and headmaster of Lakeside Christian Academy, is hoping to win a seat in St. Tammany Parish.

Louisiana Republican Party chairman, Louis Gurvich, confirmed to the Shreveport Times that the party’s executive committee had endorsed Raymond.

Jay Gallé, a former marine and businessman who is running against Raymond in the Republican primary, has branded the endorsement an embarrassment.

“[The party] puts itself out there as a protector of children, Gallé said. “I can’t express how disappointed I am that the Louisiana Republican Party has chosen to endorse a candidate with not one, not two, not three, but four criminal charges of cruelty to children.”

Raymond was arrested twice in 2022, on juvenile cruelty charges related to allegedly punishing students.

Former congressman sentenced to nearly 2 years in prison for insider trading

A former Republican lawmaker who served in Congress for nearly two decades was sentenced Tuesday to almost two years in prison over insider trading charges.

Former Rep. Stephen Buyer was sentenced to 22 months in prison stemming from four counts of securities fraud related to a pair of insider trading schemes in 2018 and 2019.

The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Richard M. Berman for the Southern District of New York. It was less than the 36 months imprisonment requested by prosecutors.

Buyer, 64, was first elected to Congress in 1993. He left in 2011 to work as a consultant to private companies.

In a statement, U.S. Attorney Damian Williams said that Buyer "abused positions of trust for illicit personal gain, and today he faced justice for those acts."

According to the indictment, Buyer “misappropriated material non-public information” that he learned as a consultant and used that information to “place timely, profitable securities trades in brokerage accounts in his own name and the names of others.”

Doug Lamalfa... lifetime politician, but his family owns a rice farm.  Net worth is alleged $3.5M. The family rice farm has recieved $5.5M in subsidies since 1995.  He is an uber Christian politician, an ally of Paul Gosar who said something like "racism will always exist" during discussion of white supremicists.

There's a lot of voters who don't care about climate change.

Messing w/ Roe v Wade is already cataclysmic for Republicans and will continue to be so moving forward.

It will be the single biggest factor to the beatdown they are gonna handed in the general election. That list of over performing Democrats from elections this year in the video above is absolutely ridiculous, and its not gonna go away. Dems are gonna hammer the abortion issue even harder.

Yanno, some of us chose this hill.

A bunch of us are still on it, but we need some help.  Get with your D reps, help hand out flyers, mail stuff, do whatever.

And for the record (and that silly geo-graph), I would strongly suggest that they change "support abortion" to "support the right to choose".

Jeez, moly.
