The Supreme Court, and abortion.

States With Abortion Bans Are Among Least Supportive for Mothers and Children

In Mississippi, which brought the abortion case that ended Roe v. Wade before the Supreme Court, Gov. Tate Reeves vowed that the state would now “take every step necessary to support mothers and children.”

Today, however, Mississippi fares poorly on just about any measure of that goal. Its infant and maternal mortality rates are among the worst in the nation.

State leaders have rejected the Affordable Care Act’s Medicaid expansion, leaving an estimated 43,000 women of reproductive age without health insurance. They have chosen not to extend Medicaid to women for a full year after giving birth. And they have a welfare program that gives some of the country’s least generous cash assistance — a maximum of $260 a month for a poor mother raising two children.

Mississippi embodies a national pattern: States that have banned abortion, or are expected to, have among the nation’s weakest social services for women and children, and have higher rates of death for infants and mothers.

According to a New York Times analysis, the 24 states that have banned abortion (or probably will) fare worse on a broad range of outcomes than states where abortion will probably remain legal — including child and maternal mortality, teenage birthrates and the share of women and children who are uninsured. The states deemed likely to ban abortion either have laws predating Roe that ban abortion; have recently passed stringent restrictions; or have legislatures that are actively considering new bans.

The majority of these states have turned down the yearlong Medicaid postpartum extension. Nine have declined the Affordable Care Act’s Medicaid expansion, which provides health care to the poor. None offer new parents paid leave from work to care for their newborns.

All I hear is that republicans want to rape and marry 13 year olds because they are great mothers.

i really don’t think that is a message they should be sending.

let’s get rid of the washer and dryer and start making women walk to the river that has been polluted by Monsanto to clean clothes while we are at it.

Congress has the power on how to organize the Supreme Court. I would think term limits would be part of that organizational power (as well as how many total justices).

Quoting myself but I believe Ro Khanna proposed such legislation back in 2020. 18 year term limits, I believe.

I think this absolutely, 100% a message they SHOULD be sending.  Hopefully it helps motivate Dem voters while suppressing their own.

I don't see it suppressing their base. Their base views these results as proof that they're winning, and are already planning on how great it will be when they go further.

I would hope that it would affect "undecided voters". Although the thought that their are undecided voters makes me reluctant to predict them.

I'll be honest- I'm a pro-choice guy (mostly for the 'its none of my f'ing business' reason), and I had no idea how messed up the fallout banning abortion could be. We now have well-trained doctors who have to hold themselves accountable to sky wizard enthusiasts for doing their job and saving lives.

That would be nice, but a majority of voters won’t hear their message. Unfortunately, the Dems don’t go for any kind of kill shot and won’t show how crazy some of these peoples thought are. If it was switched, the Repubs would be murdering the Dems over this.

I hope everyone here is in agreement that this is wrong, however, I feel the wrong people will take this to heart. I won’t be surprised to actually see this make the rounds and having some idiots promote this message. I hope not, but wouldn’t be surprised.

There have been so many things over the last several years that we say, ‘Nothing will come of this and people will recognize the insanity’ to ‘oh my god, they really believe the election was stolen.’

I just don’t trust the majority of people in this country right now. I don’t think I ever have, but my trust in our fellow citizens is at an all time low and getting lower by the day.
