Some More Cops Who Need to Be Fired

What the cops did there is indefensibly ****ty.  The guy they ended up killing called the police on himself and he was already handcuffed when they arrived.  A security guard had managed to cuff him and control him, all by himself, without killing him.  Imagine that.  They could have loaded him up and left, or placed him in the back of a car.  Or at least sat him up.  His having a medical (mental) emergency was why he called them in the first place, so they knew this was a medical crisis not a criminal one.  Crushing him into the ground, either causing another medical emergency or doing so while he was suffering one, is just plain horrible.

I have a question about the paramedic too.  It seems like that paramedic just walked over and injected an unconscious, literally dying, guy with a sedative.  Is it unreasonable to think a professional first responder should have better judgment than that? Maybe say something like "hey guys I know you asked for me to sedate a man against his will... but that guy isn't moving.  Maybe I should check his vitals first?"

Man suffering psychotic breakdown left alone near highway by South Carolina first responders

It's been a year of crippling emotion for Cindy and Paul Tarashuk — a year since the death of their 26-year-old son also named Paul.

"Talking about him gets me really upset," Cindy Tarashuk told CBS News. "Talking about this stuff gets me angry."

Paul Tarashuk had schizoaffective disorder, suffering delusions and hallucinations. But he was getting on with his life, until one night last September, when he had a psychotic breakdown traveling along a highway in Orangeburg County, South Carolina.

Parked for a roadside break, a trucker suddenly saw Tarashuk walk toward him, naked. The trucker took off, but as he drove down the interstate, he realized Tarashuk was riding on his rig and called 911.

Officers from three different law enforcement agencies responded, including Orangeburg County Sheriff's Deputy Clifford Doroski, who was certain Tarashuk was high or drunk.

Doroski's body camera recorded what happened when EMS arrived. They asked Tarashuk if he spoke English. He didn't answer the first responders who berated and cursed at him.

"I'm being f***ing serious. I'm sleepy. Give me your damn name so I can go home for real. I'm tired," one first responder said.

They shoved an ammonia capsule up his nose. He didn't flinch.

"There, I mean at that point, someone should have stepped up and said 'We gotta take him in some place. He's not just someone to let go,'" said Paula Tarashuk.

As troubling as it is to watch how the ambulance crew treats Tarashuk during the call, it's even more disturbing to watch the sheriff's deputy after.

The deputy put Tarashuk into his cruiser and drove him 15 miles to a closed gas station near the county line. Surveillance video outside the gas station captured Tarashuk the last time he was seen alive. He had no shoes, no phone and no idea where he was.

"It's just watching him walk to his death. He was escorted by an officer to his death," Cindy said.

From there, Tarashuk ended up back on the same highway, where he was hit by a car. Nearly five hours later, the same EMS crew was called to deal with Tarashuk again. But this time, he was dead.

"If I'd have known that he was just going to drop him off, we'd have just took him to the hospital and dropped him there," one of the first responders was heard saying.

A toxicology report from the Orangeburg County Coroner's office came up clean. Despite this, Deputy Clifford Doroski is still on the job, and so is one of the EMTs.

Driving down to Florida last week, I was cruising along and a car in front of me for no reason hung a left turn into the trees separating the two sides of the interstate.  Long story short, I got the one girl out, ran her through a few tests for head injuries, evaluated rib pain as just a bruise, gave her a once over for any major injuries, and treated for shock until EMS arrived.  When they got there, I have them a rundown of what I had done and found.  I **** you not, the one EMS girl looked at me and said "wow, you seem go know more about this than I do."  And i didn't get the feeling she was being sarcastic.  Don't overestimate the skills of EMS.

This is no surprise...but I do fear for the safety of this sergeant.

A growing number of police departments in America's largest cities told CBS News that they've added implicit bias training. Nevertheless, hundreds of officers in multiple states have recently been exposed for racist social media posts attacking minorities and promoting racial stereotypes.

In St. Louis, Missouri, one sergeant whose department has officers at the center of the controversy said that the culture among her department's top brass is allowing bad cops to slip through the cracks.

"Do you think that there are white supremacists on the police force?" asked CBS News correspondent Jeff Pegues.

"Yes" said Heather Taylor, an almost 19-year veteran on the St. Louis Metro police force.

"You didn't even pause," Pegues said.

"Have you seen some of the Facebook posts of some of our suspended officers right now?" Taylor responded. "Yes."

Couple says tour of Muskegon police officer's house for sale revealed KKK application on the wall

HOLTON, Mich. - A couple touring homes in West Michigan says they've made some unsettling discoveries in the home of a Muskegon Police officer.

Rob and Reyna Mathis say they've been looking for a home for over a month now. They have looked at homes in Sterling Heights, Grand Rapids, Hudsonville and Muskegon.

The couple thought they found the perfect home in Holton. The house they toured with their realtor is owned by a Muskegon Police officer. Mathis says there were three Confederate flags, two in the garage and one on the dining room table.

"It was so disturbing to me," Rob said.

Mathis shared the experience on a Facebook post -- which has been shared more than 1,000 times with more than 900 comments. He confessed to joking to himself that he was walking through a Ku Klux Klan member's home.

When the couple and their realtor got to the bedroom, they claim to have discovered a Ku Klux Klan application framed on the wall. Mathis says the walk-through was immediately cut short and he and his wife pulled their offer.

Mathis did not name the officer in the post, however a number of Facebook users did. County tax records show the home belongs to a Charles Anderson, who is currently employed with the Muskegon Police Department.

According Muskegon Director of Public Safety Jeffrey Lewis, Anderson has been placed on administrative leave.

Prince George’s Co. police officer convicted of assaulting suspect

A Prince George’s County, Maryland, police officer has been found guilty of charges he punched a handcuffed suspect in the face.

Cpl. Stephen Downey was convicted Thursday by Prince George’s County Circuit Court Judge Ingrid M. Turner in a bench trial of misdemeanor charges of second-degree assault and misconduct in office.

The incident happened after police were called to a CVS in Temple Hills, Maryland, in October 2018. Downey struck the man, who was homeless, multiple times in the face as he sat handcuffed and seat-belted in the front seat of a cruiser. Authorities said the man had complained about his handcuffs being too tight before he was hit.

A lawyer for Downey said the man had become agitated and aggressive, and Downey, who has been with the department for eight years, feared being butted in the head.

One of the problems with a union workforce....

I wonder why the GOP hasn’t gutted thug unions the way they have others? Even Scott Walker who campaigned on killing public sector unions made a special exception for the thug unions. After all, if the stuff they say about unions is true, shouldn’t they want all unions gone?

SC deputy caught in child sex sting by his own department

A South Carolina sheriff's department says it caught one of its own deputies last week in a child sex sting that netted over a dozen other people.

The State reports Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott announced the arrest of Deputy Derek Vandenham on Tuesday. Twelve other law enforcement agencies assisted in "Operation Relentless Guardian," during which deputies pretended to be 13- to 15-year-old girls and chatted with men online.

The men who solicited sex from the "girls" were arrested at an agreed upon meeting site. Lott says the meetup site was changed so Vandenham wouldn't know he was about to be arrested and the uniformed deputy arrived in his patrol car. He was immediately fired.

Barrientes Vela, top Pct. 2 officials charged county for training, then skipped it

AUSTIN, Texas - Bexar County Precinct 2 Constable Michelle Barrientes Vela and other top officials from her agency charged the county for expensive hotel rooms, meals and a state open records training course but skipped the training itself, public records obtained by the KSAT 12 Defenders confirm.

Records from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement and the Bexar County Auditor's Office raise serious questions about the two-day, taxpayer funded training trip to Austin in late September 2017.

While Barrientes Vela, Chief Deputy Anthony Castillo and Capt. Marc Garcia attended the initial four-hour training session at the Crowne Plaza Hotel - Austin on Sept. 27, 2017, TCOLE attendance rosters show the trio did not show up on Sept. 28, 2017, when a bulk of the training took place at the hotel during an eight-hour session.

TCOLE personal status reports for all three, which contain a list of their completed training courses, show they were only given credit for four of the 12 hours for the Texas Public Information Act course in question.

"I am very comfortable in the court of public opinion. In the court of public opinion, this pretty much smells," said George Scott, a public policy researcher and former Houston-area school board member.

"When you're dealing with public information act, you are dealing with a matter of law and there can be changes to the law, nuances to the law," said Scott, describing the open records training course.

It took 5 years to fire this guy for killing someone.  That union job security is really something.

In the case of Black Cop/White Woman, it only took two years to get a murder conviction and a $20M civil judgement.

Not sure that “union job security” is really the issue here.

Pittsburgh police officer charged with DUI hit-and-run while off duty

A Pittsburgh police officer is accused of driving under the influence, hitting a bicyclist on the North Shore and failing to stop while off duty.

The crash happened at the intersection of Allegheny and Ridge avenues on June 19 around 11 p.m.

Two witnesses were able to obtain the officer's license plate number, which they provided to police.

Court documents say that when officers questioned Brian Martin, 35, of Pittsburgh, about the incident in June, he told his co-workers that he had never left his home.

Police then recovered video evidence that showed Martin drinking at Tequila Cowboy on the North Shore, drinking a total of two shots and eight Miller Lite beers. His truck's GPS also indicated it was at the scene of the crash.

The truck's recording system also showed hard braking, then a pause and reverse, then a sudden acceleration at the time of the crash.

The cyclist was treated at the scene and not taken to a hospital.

Martin is charged with causing an accident involving death or personal injury, DUI and reckless driving.

Martin has been placed on unpaid administrative leave.

Vladimir Putin is intent on weakening the United States. He authorized an operation to help elect a grifting pathological liar and sociopath as President, so he’s well on his way. Don’t help him by giving ANY legitimacy to his propaganda arm. Use different sources.
