"Is it being used offensively" and I agree that it isn't but that's my personal opinion. The reason I think it should be changed is because the radical left is going to keep digging and digging until they get their intended result. I understand how it can be seen and perceived as a racial epithet and I'm all about concentrating on the game. This conversation could potentially cause focus issues for the team and leadership so I say take it out of the conversation. See, I'm many things: A grandson who was raised by a Holocaust survivor A teacher A journalist A researcher A novelist Etc. In most of those realities, words are very important to me. As an American, words are very important to me as well. I'll put out an example of clear offense without gray in it. Even as a Jew who lost 3/4s of his family to the Nazis, I don't want Mein Kampf censored or boycotted in America. I respect that it is throughout much of Europe, but I disagree with that choice. Likewise, I don't want NeoNazis banned from circulating their literature. Ideas are important. Words are important. You don't censor. You don't boycott. You don't whitewash without damn good reason. Even then, you ought to be careful because it is far more likely that by censoring, boycotting, and whitewashing you will lead to a recurrance of hate or the negative behaviors you are trying to suppress. The name "Redskins" doesn't rise to that level. No research says it has historically. No current analysis reveals it to be that destructive today. To concede because it might be fatiguing to fight the good fight? That's bull****! If it is so bad that it needs changing then prove it. Otherwise, you will whittle away every meaningful and useful difference between us until we reach a point where we live our lies in a gray void of constant numbed fear. It's rough living for many of them for sure. Even those located in the city and town. I have worked with members of the tribe and have had them work for me,(as I have stated several times in this thread). I don't know about the ones I haven't talked too,but the ones I have could care less about the name,(go figure),and those that do,do so because the Redskins are their favorite team. Should see the Redskins stuff go up on Sunday game days around here. Pretty cool. One thing I do know,is that if I mentioned that their moral compass was askew and I based that opinion on the casino's ect,the fight would be on. Pretty condescending to say the least. I could vouch for this. I've lived in Albuquerque for almost 5 years now. My wife's family has lived in New Mexico almost their entire lives. My business sees a ton of Natives come in everyday, people we know very well, selling the jewelry they handcraft themselves. I've never met a single one who thought the name was offensive. Furthermore, two teams generate the biggest support around here, the Broncos and Cowboys, and that's obviously due to proximity. The third? I don't think anyone will argue that it's not the Redskins. Maybe the Chiefs, but I know most here would say definitely the Redskins. Not a day goes by without me seeing the logo somewhere. What could attest for the Redskins, as well as the Chiefs, popularity here other than Native pride? This poll basically reinforced what I've seen all along from the Natives here. I'm not in the least bit surprised by it. Not only are they not offended by the name, many like the team specifically because of the name.
