He's never giving up his nukes now that he knows he can get concessions from the US for nothing. This is all building up to Agent Orange selling NK as a legitimate nuclear power to the American public in return for an empty paper bag named "An End to the Korean War" or dumping it on the Democrats and blaming them for "squandering his 'peace'". A perfect solution in North Korea is probably not obtainable by any administration (a peaceful and voluntary denuclearization without any precondition). Only one country in the history of the world has voluntarily and peacefully dismantled its nuclear program after attaining the bomb. The chances of NK being the second one seems pretty unlikely. What scenarios would be acceptable as a resolution to the North Korea situation (keeping in mind that it will likely be repeated in the future) is the central question. The ship has sailed on the ideal outcome. They built the bomb and proved willing to witstand world pressure to the detriment of their own people and by siphoning enough resources under the radar. Seems to me, if NK eventually dismantles the program (or at least enough to give cover to the world saying "see NK nuke program is gone") in exchange for security guarantees and financial incentives, that's probably a decent enough outcome to call it a day and go home.
