ixcuincle
http://twitter.com/BryanDFischer/statuses/122677972372172800 Whoa. RT @KegsnEggs: According to raiders.com, Al Davis has passed away. ---------- Post added October-8th-2011 at 10:25 AM ---------- Everyone gave Al **** in his later days for being incompetent or driving the Raiders into the ground. But you can't deny his early influence. He was a legend in the game of football. Should he have stepped down earlier? Maybe. But the guy stayed on till the very end. Props to him. He's a football legend.
THEREALTOR1
Wow! Although it shouldn't be, that comes as a bit of suprise. RIP http://www.raiderfans.net/forum/oakland-raiders-forum-message-board/180863-rip-al-davis.html

Gibbs Hog Heaven
I honestly don't know whether to offer Raiders fans commiserations or congratulations, but the bottom line is a man's lost his life. Condolences to the Davis family. And Raider fans. (I think/ hope.). RIP Al. On a lighter note, now the Raiders are free of their meglomaniac, and the Redskins one has seen the light, that just leaves Dallas as the standard-bearer for lunatics extraordinaire. And with Jerruh a sprightly 68, y'all should have decades holding onto that title yet. . Hail.

Warhead36
RIP...even though you were a bit loony in your latter years, you were a hell of an owner in your youth.
MartinC
RIP indeed - a sad day. Whatever his failings and sometimes bizarre behavior over the last few years Davis was one of the guys who helped create the NFL and the game we know today. The Raiders will probably be a better franchise with his passing but it's a sad day in any case.
ClemsSC7Skinfan
http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/7074380/oakland-raiders-owner-al-davis-dies-82-cause-unknown Raiders owner Al Davis, whose legend began 60 years ago as an assistant coach with the Chargers and included a 1992 Hall of Fame induction in Canton, has died at 82. The team's website released the news Saturday morning, posting a simple tribute with his name in large silver letters above "July 4, 1929-October 8, 2011." No cause of death has been released. 'Skins_&_'Stons
On Yom Kippur...pretty ironic if you ask me. Still, the man was larger than life in the 70s & 80s. RIP Al Davis.

FanboyOf91
RIP. Loved the old-school owners. Somewhere in football heaven, he's scheming new plots to drive Rozelle crazy.

Bang
Al Davis should be remembered for being one of the greatest proponents of professional football. None of it would be the same without him, or without his Raiders. Truly a great one, and an end of an era. ~Bang

Riggins77
RIP Al Davis. I was listening to Sirius NFL radio this morning and Gill was on and I never knew that he coached the Raiders, was coach of the year, then eventually bought the team. Springfield
That's very unfortunate. As eccentric as he was, he was still one of the good ol' boys.

Duckus
Damn. What sort of sucks is that the Raiders actually looked good this year and like the could be a contender in the AFC-West. When an owner dies, can he pass the team through his family or does it have to be sold to highest bidder?
chipwhich
When an owner dies, can he pass the team through his family or does it have to be sold to highest bidder? It's his team, his will dictates what is done with it.

What sort of sucks is that the Raiders actually looked good this year and like the could be a contender in the AFC-West.When an owner dies, can he pass the team through his family or does it have to be sold to highest bidder? Depends on how the will is written...you can thank the late great Jack Kent Cooke for Dan Snyder's ownership because Jack (as much as I loved him) didn't will it to his son. Now, would his son have done better? That's another question.
