  1. For anyone who missed Guerrero vs Berto last night, you missed a very hard inside fight for 12 rounds. Guerrero fought a bit dirty but overall very good entertaining fight and I'd love to see a rematch. Great fight!
  2. RIP Manny your commentary will sorely be missed My personal favorite " and here comes GATTI BACK!!!"
  3. Thanks for the heads up, I don't know anything about Alvarado feel free to enlighten
  4. I thought I was the only one that noticed this. I'd say ever since he joined Freddie Roach it seems like he's "gained" power. He was extremely skinny during the weigh in and immediately drinking the protein shakes after the weigh in. On a side note, Showtime's fight line up tonight has been stellar thus far (into the Ponce De Leon fight)
  5. Kahn loses to Danny Garcia in an exciting fight tonight on HBO This is why boxing is still better than MMA! Kahn dominated the fight in rounds 1 through 3 and was still dominating in 4 until he was blasted by a "lucky" counter left hook. From that point forward I was shocked, amazed, and became a fan of Amir Kahn's heart. The fight was stopped in the 4th after I believe it was the 4th knock down. Very exciting to watch, I wish he woulda made it through but the stoppage was a good one because Kahn was slow to respond to questions, requested movements, etc. several times prior
  6. I would tend to agree with you on that as well. Don King has actually faded from the limelight as of late from the fights I personally witness. It seems like he was on top of the world throughout the 90s and into early 2000s but then was exposed I guess and fighters have often signed elsewhere. However, I think he was the most corrupt of all time and Bob Arum would be in a close second. Now that Top Rank has survived all these years I'd agree that Arum keeps money in house as much as possible to make himself as rich as possible and is basically full of b.s. Out of all the managements to choose from Golden Boy appears to be the best for the fighters but they are not changing boxing in any other fashion than treating the actual boxers better than they previously were. It boils down to an educational factor, all other promotional companies exploit the boxers lack of education where Golden Boy appears not to do that so much.
  7. Can you give it a rest for a bit? I mean no offense but all you talk about is having Floyd's back on a Redskin message board even when someone else just states their opinion. Let it go sometimes With that being said, someone last commented on the corruptness of boxing. I don't think it is any worse now than it has been but one observation I've made over the last 10 years or so is that Golden Boy was formed with a lot of former big name boxers (De La Hoya, joining later Moseley, BHop) in order to help give boxers better share of money over promoters. Then it grew, now it's more or less no different in its corruptness than any other promotional team. I say this with no real evidence other than the fact that nothing in boxing has "changed" If you wanted to clean the sport up you really would need someone with a lot of money to show the same interest of cleaning up the sport. You would need to market the sport on regular TV and/or you would need to market the sport via an ESPN show. Again this is where I'd say the most money would be needed, I think fans would follow if you brought a lot of the good fights back to regular cable programming such as ESPN and I don't mean FNF. If you do that you can build the sport then clean it as you go by creating new standardized rules for wherever you fight but it would be much in the way of creating a league in which you can monitor and rule (commissioner). None of this will ever happen, but it would be interesting to see someone try it IMO.
  8. QFT I guess the only reason no one digs into boxing and the rampant steriod use and lack of testing is because of just how dirty it is? Higher ups getting paid off to look another way or maybe boxing has slid so far back from the limelight that no one really cares. Either way I'm in strong support of what Jr. has caused but I do agree it stemmed from being scared of his opponent and grasping at that straw which in all accounts and purposes was probably the truth about Manny since he denied the test.....now he's good with the test.... Anyhow, another disappointment but it's for the best since someone was exposed for cheating and thus their image tarnished, bad for us fans
  9. Actually you're wrong, for the most part the thread is used during/after a fight night. However, any and all Floyd vs Manny talk is basically what you summarize
  10. After watching the fight between Mayweather and Cotto this past weekend I did notice one thing that could cause Mayweather some issues if he were to ever choose to fight Pacquiao. Cotto pushed on him and May chose to roll the punches with his shoulder in the corner but many times he was vulnerable to a left hook (if you could find his head, great head movement). With the fact that Manny is a south paw and an obvious aggressive puncher I do believe he'll catch Floyd with some big shots that he's not used to catching. With all that being said, I do know and acknowledge Floyd's ring intelligence and would tend to believe that he would keep the fight in the middle of the ring all night long to maximize his speed and counter punching ability. For that I believe he would win a decision and/or even KO Manny. If for some reason he chose to keep doing what he's done in his last several fights and let his opponent cut the ring off and pin him in the corner I think Manny would KO Floyd. In general I just found it more interesting to think about since Cotto was able to get to him more than anyone else in recent memory and it all took place in the corner and due to Floyd for whatever reason, allowing it to happen (reminded me a lot of Roy Jones when his age went up and he basically would just rest on the ropes and it eventually led to his demise albeit Floyd's D is much better than Roy's ever was).
  11. LOL, I don't necessarily blame the ref since it is a Texas rule and it looked as though he was told the decision had to be made after he finished his count. He even said (from what I could hear) during his count "1...2...3...4...5....you've got to be ****ing kidding me....6....7...8" So I think he just had to do it. I'd blame Texas and karma, I personally think Molina fought a fight he had to in order to win but what a chump way of fighting in general. He held waaaaaaayyyy to much, he did go in with his head ALOT and while it was/is a good game plan it's pretty dirty and karma bit him in the end. I feel nothing for him and wasn't really dissappointed in the outcome. I don't know if you noticed or not but he even held when the ref was trying to break him and James apart after he was startled in the 9th and was using the rope to buy more time. If there was a way both guys could lose it should of happened, Kirkland would of been beat otherwise. I think if any judge has a card like the lady did tonight for Kirkland she should be stripped of ever judging again because there is simply no excuse, however, boxing wont and Texas will still be a joke and MMA will take another step forward. On the other hand looking forward to seeing if Morales has another epic battle in him tonight.
  12. Close fight all the way up till about 9th/10th round....Martinez showing much better stamina and sharp punching still late in the fight start of the 11th now I didn't think it was going to go much longer after the beating he started to give him around the 10th.....he had a killer shot at the end of the 11th leading to two total knock downs Overall Martinez looked as though he didn't take this fight serious enough but he did figure Macklin out (head movement) and once he did it was a systematic breakdown in the later rounds once Macklin had basically worn down through punches and overall work on his behalf. Great fight though and highly entertaining towards the end
  13. HBO Boxing tonight decent lineup Rodriguez vs George Martinez vs Macklin I'm watching the 1st fight now and its actually pretty entertaining, pretty much a grind it out fight with Rodriguez showing a bit more skill thus far (finished 8th round) I'm guessing that Macklin gets KTFO before 4 rounds are through but mainly because I know nothing about him except he's European, mainly British that they're dubbing Irish because of his name and the holiday.....mainly to sell seats and fans will not be upset when he's blown out....just a guess though we'll see how it turns out soon ---------- Post added March-17th-2012 at 11:31 PM ---------- Martinez getting all he can handle with Macklin......very impressive job thus far and good to see Buddy McGirt back in a larger fight
  14. I loved the fights on HBO this past weekend, that was very fun to watch. Bronner was simply a superior talent to his opponent, I do agree the show he puts on is a good bit corny but its definetly more desirable to watch than Floyd being the biggest douche (and most fake person) in the history of the sport (for show or not). I do agree Bronner wants to be the next Floyd but I'm curious if he'll take a turn to be a "bad guy" or if he'll continue his simply flashy style that albiet corny does fit him well since he's already started it. Alexander won me back as a fan of his, I really lost a lot of faith in his heart after the Bradley fight and then the Mathysee fight. I figured he was done and had peaked, he certainly proved me wrong and won me over during the fight when I got to witness Maidona attempting every shady move in boxing to try and get Alexander out of his element and it simply did not work and he beat him like a drum. It was a very enjoyable night of boxing, hope there will be many more to come.
  15. Again selecting Cotto as May's next opponent is after carefully watching enough film to select a slower opponent who has a name well enough that will draw a crowd and leave millions disappointed. I highly doubt Mayweather stands and fights or even remotely resembles his 4 round exhibition against Ortiz, he will get on his bike like he did against De La Hoya and easily out box Cotto to a snooze fest of a win. The best of boxing is when we get the unheralded fighters on regular HBO.
  16. I dunno, I'm looking at it again and I don't really see what I'd call sarcasm, maybe I'm wrong but to me if you use sarcasm you make sense with your sharp/witty remark IMO If I'm wrong then I stand corrected and apologize. Other than that I'm done with the whole he said she said argument on this fight in general. As a huge boxing fan this thing is actually my losing interest as it continues to drag on...and on....and on After the Ortiz fight I can honestly say that I've nearly lost all interest in watching Floyd fight anymore as well. I don't know exactly why but it's just gone.Tired of the same ol crap I guess.
  17. First off don't always believe what you see on TV, typically a house (ANY HOUSE) is built QUICKLY in 3 months, longer pending on size, etc but if it's cookie cutter as those can be then 3 months is good speed. If you have any sort of idea what rules/regulations/etc. that must be followed for any sort of public construction you would know that it is a far drastic difference in residential dwelling than a public "arena" I'm not saying money doesn't fix problems or ensure someone can or can't do it, but, obviously if you pay more you have the ability to allow for more hiring, possibly quicker shipment of material, etc. Ultimately I think to build a "temporary facility" that seats 45,000 could be constructed in 4 to 5 months yeah that's probably doable and more likely doable by the end of May as Arum said since we're losing time as each day passes. The accurate subject is do they want to make the fight not whether or not you can build a venue in the time especially if you don't know anything about a construction process.
  18. I agree, I mean I was excited as the next guy that Floyd was taking the fight, but as a revisionist I think looking back at it without my De La Hoya glasses on I think Floyd can look at who he plans to fight and already know his strategy and know the hardest thing he needs to do is train for stamina/endurance so he can get on the bike all night. I also agree about all three of those fighters, the difference is when you look back at Manny's career how many Great "Risky" fights did he take? Morales 3 times. Marquez 3 times(albeit the 3rd fight was hand picked and turned out to hurt more than help even with the win). Barrera twice. Cotto once. I just want to see Mayweather challenge himself just a little bit with all the trash he talks. I agree with him that he's great but show the fans why and just how great he is. He could beat Cotto just like Manny but he won't risk it because with Cotto there is more risk than it is worth to him. I personally think that is why he ended the fight with Ortiz, what I witnessed was Ortiz actually getting to him in the 4th round (media will never say it that way). Ortiz's pressure was bothering Floyd and while I don't think Floyd would of lost I do think he made a mistake challenging Victor's power and when there was an opportunity to end it, he did. Ortiz did stand a punchers shot which got surprisingly interesting since Floyd wasn't running. I agree, you're probably the most insightful one on the boxing boards that I actually look to see what your opinion is on fights, subjects, or remarks.
  19. C'mon he fought an old legs worn out De La Hoya whom everyone knows starts fights hard then fades towards the end. At that stage in De La Hoya's career he was prepared for a fight, not a sprinting competition. Albeit that was a fight strategy perfected by Floyd but he moved up for the $$$ and got on his bike and ran the whole night outside of pot shots. After that fight anyone who watched it would agree that Floyd won easily but as a fan you were not treated to a "fight". He picks and chooses his opponents to be sure he has an advantage, I think Oscar's fights before and after would suggest the same. Oscar fought May in 2007, before he fought and lost to Mosley in 03, Sturm in 04(he won but really lost if it were judged properly), BHop in 04. He did kill Mayorga in 06 but seriously....who didn't see that coming, Mayorga was an easy win for anyone who was a real boxer (very similar to Naseem Hamed). Then he loses to May in 07 (total of 2 fights in 2 years), followed up with a win over Forbes then to be annihilated by Pacman. The writing was on the wall with his heart not being all the way in it as well as his skills were diminished. I'm not saying Floyd isn't one of the GOAT but once he reached about 30 wins he carefully hand picked opponents (I personally believe due to Ellerbe) that would be easy wins much like Roy Jones Jr.
  20. This would again proove my previous point that I had made some time back that Mayweather (w/Ellerbe) will not make a fight happen that he doesn't have the physical advantages in. I don't fault Guerrero for taking the fight and his biggest pay day but for Floyd to "hand pick" that as the mega fight of the year would be a joke. Even without making the Manny fight there are bigger names available that would make more money but obviously could also cause problems matching up. I simply don't understand how a fight that would blow previous PPV records away simply can't be made, incredible.
  21. to his death and to the eventual deaths of those whom wish to follow the same footprint of leadership and/or his everyday way of life.
  22. Well no one can predict his stupidity not even Anne Wolf but I believe he's learned a lesson from leaving the trainers that actually cared for him, it's obvious that they know him and how to train him for the best results that he'll ever be able to achieve his max potential. He's all offense, he'll lose fights against good defensive/counter punching fighters I don't see that ever changing but he'll win a lot of fights and his style is something people will love to watch.
  23. The only bad part about the fight is knowing that Angulo punched himself right out of contention. His chin is amazing to take the shots he's taking. Kirkland has looked good since late rd 1 and onward, I agree the training is what's showing in this fight. Kirkland is simply pounding him right now. ---------- Post added November-5th-2011 at 11:30 PM ---------- Game.....OVER! Great entertainment!
  24. and 2nd round....no way it goes the distance but this is the best of boxing and it certainly can be great when it's like this! ---------- Post added November-5th-2011 at 11:21 PM ---------- Damn, gotta give Kirkland credit for manning up since the knock down. That is entirely his corner that picked him up (along with his will that they helped put in him). Gotta give him credit though, going down to Cancun and getting up to give us all a great look at his heart.
  25. Been looking forward to this fight tonight since it was announced.
