  1. It's just frustrating to know that a sport is crooked and IMO if you have a fight that ends in the fashion that these are ending in I think the penalty should be that people are refunded there PPV. Until they actually at bare minimum put undercards together with 2 to 3 named fighters fighting and bare minimum 2 interesting fight matchups (1 being the main event, the other being two going at it for a title) I'm sick and tired of the undercards being lopsided matchups to attempt to build up whomever's fighters (Arum's or Golden Boys, etc.) I used to think any fight with Don King was going to be high probability of a rigged scoring if it went the distance, now they aren't even going the distance. Disgrace.
  2. I agree, everyone gets paid except the fans who make the sport. They wonder why this sport is falling behind others, too much corruption and no one cares......pretty much sums it up, we'll always have the best fights be those that aren't PPV and that aren't "Super-Matches" The best ones are going to be unexpected, guess it will always be that way till the sport fades so far back into mediocrity that we just don't watch anymore. To think this used to be one of the best things about American Sports.......used to be (As far as my opinion on the fight, 1st round a feeling out round, then the foul occurs and Bernard sees an easy way out of a big pay fight with minimal damage by faking injury thinking hell I'm champion I get to keep the belt due to a no contest....didn't work out that way lol, at least that was a small victory and we'll move forward with Dawson as the champ)
  3. http://www.sportsbun.com/boxing/boxing-schedule-2011-boxing-events-2011/ Watch here if you'd like. Like VDO - Link #1 is pretty good just mute the foreign commentators. ---------- Post added October-16th-2011 at 12:16 AM ---------- Lol, what a joke boxing is sometimes. Looks like Golden Boy fights are becoming rigged. Fight over, Bernard unable to continue past 2nd round, he faked injured right shoulder and fight is ruled TKO for Dawson
  4. The KO did seem odd, watching the reply he did take the shot on/behind the ear which would of certainly caused him to lose equilibrium. As for Sergio being a bum.....c'mon man that's like calling Floyd a bum, nearly the exact same meaning. They both want to fight competition that is below them rather than equal but realistically they both are good solid fighters if not the best in their weight class. You can call him a coward and I'm cool with it but a bum....no not really. The guy is 48-2-2, he's beaten PW (twice really), Pavlik & Cintron (counts as a loss but should of been a draw at worst) I do agree he should not call out smaller guys nor should he go up to fight bigger guys, he's 36 which is pretty much end of a boxing career so there is no reason for a weight gain or loss, he's at his optimal weight and should clean up his division. That's about it
  5. Sergio pulls it out but he had to work for it tonight
  6. Andy Lee looks vastly improved since I had last seen him earlier in the year. He says he'd like to fight Martinez, that I believe would be quite a mismatch. Sergio is simply too fast for him and would destroy him since he stands so tall (too easy to hit). Good fight though and an A+ performance by Lee dominating Vera. Next ....Martinez to make quick work of Barker. ---------- Post added October-1st-2011 at 11:43 PM ---------- Barker impressive through the first 6, not winning but making it a fight. Should be interesting if it goes late in the fight just to see how Martinez continues to fight.
  7. Pac would win without doubt because he is southpaw and with Freddie in the corner he'd kill him with overhand lefts all night long, I don't know if Manny would have the power to knock PW out due to the size difference but with his speed and the power that he does have he'd make those punches do enough damage to probably have the corner throw in the towel in the 10th or 11th.
  8. I'd love to know more about who promoted this fight....I do notice there are two black twins that are around after the fight who are those guys? I believe they were there on the last one that I personally felt was a close decision and possible robbery (Lucas Mathysse) Anyhow this was equally as bad as the Holyfield vs Lewis Draw Such a disgrace. On a side note I felt the commentating (even Roy) called the fight very well, and I was glad to hear everyone talk about it openly ---------- Post added July-10th-2011 at 12:22 AM ---------- Thank you Max for calling it how it was very emphatically, I only wish someone would lose their job over it. Until then it will always be this way because people get paid off and there are no repercussions to their actions. Not a single judge from this fight should be allowed to be associated with boxing in any fa-cite for a minimum of 3 years. All cases like this should be determined on a case by case (fight by fight) basis, not a lump sum rule for every situation because it is a judged event which there will always be error invovled when it is based on a point system. The thing is after a robbery there should be an investigation with consequences, Hell make the judges sit with a panel and go through each round on how they scored it and why and see if it even matches their cards that they turned in. I'm just in shock.
  9. OMFG..........I can't believe the robbery I just witnessed with PW beating Lara......What a robbery in the decision........I'm a PW fan big fan but this was wrong
  10. Devon Alexander vs Lucas Mathysse Early rounds Devon came out very fast in general from hands to feet to movement. Lucas stayed about the same throughout the whole fight basically steadily moving forward throwing body shots mixed with head shots. The harder punches all night were by Mathysse. Alexander did go down in the 4th on a nice shot but he wasn't really hurt by the punch and remained hyped up till about the 7th round. In the 7th it was like falling off a cliff with his energy level. Overall a very fun fight to watch. Alexander wins on scorecard by split decision with very odd scores so I'm going to score it myself and see how my numbers come out. Alexander won by 96-93, 95-94 with Mathysse getting one by 96-93 Alexander =10 9 10 8 10 10 9 9 10 10 = 95 Mathysse = 9 10 9 10 9 9 10 10 9 10 = 95 Okay I honestly would of given the fight a draw because I felt my score was the same as Lederman's (which was tied going into the 10th) and I didn't see either one pulling away from each other so that is why I gave it a 10-10. For anyone to have the fight so one sided for either of the two is just not right. I can agree if all cards were 95-94 assuming someone picked a winner of the 10th. So in short its unfortunate for Mathysse but both fighters did very well and possibly all they could do and I still felt it was even. Also, I forgot that it was a Don King fight which was a first in a long time and we have scoring questions.........and people wonder why Boxing has lost so much ground to MMA much less other sports.
  11. June 18 At Guadalajara, Mexico (HBO): Saul "Canelo" Alvarez vs. Ryan Rhodes, 12 rounds, for Alvarez's WBC junior middleweight title; Jason Litzau vs. Adrien Broner, 10 rounds, junior lightweights Results - Broner knocked out Litzau in a nice shot that he then jumped all over near the end of the 1st round to finish a knockout on what I personally felt was a quick stoppage. Litzau was not given a chance to reach his feet but I'll give the ref this he did look strange in his face/neck contortions after getting just whooped up on especially after a brutal uppercut. Canelo looked fantastic in an 12th round TKO but the fight was never close to begin with and he was never threatened or in danger at any point. The closest round Rhodes had was the 6th and if you gave it to him it was purely because he didn't win the first 5 up to that point. As for Canelo, he just has the "it" factor. He is confident, he is powerful, he doesn't get off the game plan even if he lands several combos. It is all very impressive to watch at such a young age. I would love to see him with one of the big dogs, say....Cotto. I think it would be a brutal fight between the two. I do completely understand if they bring up along slowly still because he needs more experience with a tougher opponent than Rhodes and Matthew Hatton. Hopefully he is handled well and not like Fernando Vargas who was thrown way too early with Tito who really ruined him in my opinion. Anyhow it was entertaining to watch the maturation of Canelo but nothing of the unexpected took place. (Great body work in the fight by Canelo though which did get recognized by the commentators as well as Rhodes himself).
  12. Oh I agree that I'm overestimating Berto's chances against Floyd but I'm pointing more to the fact that his skill set scares Floyd far more than Ortiz's skill set. Due to the fact that he is more dangerous than Ortiz they would easily (and have easily selected) to fight Ortiz because he has a title and he doesn't have a chance. Berto would have a better chance due to the natural abilities he has, I agree 100% if he had proper training and understanding of his skill set he'd be much better. I was simply trying to point out that Floyd always hand picks his opponents based on a much lesser skill set (i.e. he will not fight anyone with speed)
  13. Ortiz has a chance, albiet small due to Floyd's speed and pure running ability. I agree that it isn't fighting Baldomir but the worst thing about Ortiz right now is that his biggest accomplishment was achieved through upsetting Berto.Without any fights in between that win and this one I just don't think he will have quite the same drive that pushed him to become a champion. He will need that edge, that will, that want to just stand a chance in this fight. I believe Victor stands a chance but I'm pretty confident in Floyd's scouting team to pick apart the problems that Floyd can exploit in his opponent (that is why he doesn't fight Manny, speed is something Floyd doesn't deal well with and it showed ever so briefly against Mosley). Floyd will win the fight fairly easily by a quick punch and get on the bike till Ortiz tracks him down then repeat all night long. It will look a lot like Mayweather vs De La Hoya even though Oscar was already a shot fighter. To put it simply, Ortiz will not have the speed or know how to catch Mayweather in another boring 12 round fight that Floyd will claim he essentially beat the man who beat Berto. I say this because Berto is someone who would pose more difficult a challenge than Ortiz simply due to the fact that Berto has speed that can be a problem for Floyd along with pretty good power which would be a deadly combination to hurt the zero on the record that he fears so heavily of losing. We will basically be waiting on the Mega Fight as usual months delayed from nowl. I will say this though, at least it is finally a young fighter that has a wild chance in hell at the upset purely for the unknown boxing characteristic that can never be measured, the heart of the underdog. This is more than we can say at this point for the redundant fight with JMM for Manny.
  14. This is a funny comment, I think it is fairly obvious in the boxing community to know that everyone is in agreeance that it is Floyd who is not making this fight happen with his legal problems as well as his drive to do whatever it takes to not make the fight happen. You can say what you want but Manny agreed to the tests, then Floyd says it'll take 100 million for him to fight, that is the boxing way of saying I don't want to fight but he'll convince his "loyal" fans only that he's more than willing and that Manny's camp won't accept. Let's look at Floyd's competition the last few years: Zab Judah in 08 he looked vunerable but definetly showed his heart and skill when he whipped Zab in the latter half of the fight before Zab went Tyson on him. Then he took an easy fight with Baldomir who had no business being a champion but Floyd used that to say he beat a title holder. Then he fought an over the hill De La Hoya whom he ran from the entire fight (I'll agree he did what he had to do to win but it made a very boring fight and he ran like a coward but WON). What's next Ricky Fatton, Ricky was good but slightly better than Baldomir at best for the elite competition. Ricky did actually make Floyd fight a hard fight and when he did Floyd again showed his heart and skill which was far superior to Ricky's. If he fought that way the whole fight it would of been over early like Manny's destruction of Hatton. Then finally he decides to fight someone (old) but still very good in JMM. However, he is scared so he purposely comes in over weight and pays the fine to do so. He easily beats JMM and probably would of at the same weight but he wanted the advantage to be sure in his mind that he'd win. This was the first time in years that I thought he chose to fight someone he could actually lose to. Years too late he fights Mosley, Mosley shows early it would of been a great fight years ago but he fades too quickly later in the fight and Mayweather reverted to the hit and move style he often uses to beat opponents in boring but skillful boxing. What I'm getting at is Floyd hasn't tested himself in a long time and really probably doesn't have the edge that a young fighter would have to even want to do it. If he had it still he'd make the fight with Manny to proove to everyone that he is the best. I still think he is a little better than Manny especially if he lets Manny punch first all night. Floyd is so fast I think he'd counter him and win the fight rather easily but he could be Roy and get caught which is why everyone would have to watch the fight. Basically I just ranted on all of that because Floyd fans are naive and we all want to see the biggest fight of the last 10 years and the sport of Boxing really NEEDS to make this fight happen.
  15. Alright lets get predictions on Pac vs Mosely My prediction is: Early rounds to be touch and go, I'd expect Mosely to tag Manny and maybe stun him at some point with the same being said about Manny on Mosely. Middle rounds I see Pac being sharper and more active than Mosely and basically winning action filled rounds. Late in the fight maybe by the 10th I see Richardson throwing in the towel.
  16. This is true, overall Manny won the first fight with it being a 12 Rounder he had a draw purely due to the fact that one judge gave the first round a 10-7 score instead of 10-6 which it was suppose to be since he floored JMM 3 times. I agree JMM would of and could of most likely won the fight had there been 3 more rounds to go like an old school 15 round fight because of how hard he fought to come back. However, it was 12 rounds and one judge scored the fight incorrectly resulting in 113 to 113 draw. To me it smelled of corruption going on with gambling, especially to have the fight so far off from one judge having Manny win by a few rounds, the other judge having JMM winning by a few rounds (which would of been impossible to win by without impartiality since he was knocked down so many times in the 1st). Then the final judge to magically have it even, hmmmmmm head scratcher but yes the actual score is 1-0-1. To me the 2nd fight pretty much sealed the deal on whether it was really 2-0 because Manny did win that won without much dispute.
  17. Yeah I heard that the other day. Not a big fan of it. I know JMM gave some good fights with Pac but it's really a triology not worth making, it's already 2-0 pac.... Outside of that, why not give someone that hasn't had the chance an oppurtuntity to beat the best P4P fighter....give Ortiz a chance, give Berto a shot, I just want to see someone new get in there. Whether or not they lose or stand a lot of a chance lets spice it up a bit and stop giving people like Mosely a 400th shot. I like Mosely and all but I just don't think he'll win and am tired of watching him.
  18. On another note. Kirkland still has plenty of potential as a fighter but I hope he has his head clear enough to know that he needs to become a better "boxer" and not just a brawler. He obviously lacks the type of chin that can take flush shots, I don't think you can ever change that fact after being knocked the f out by a light hitting Japanese fighter. What you can change is your style, the best at protecting a suspect chin is Manny Steward (Lennox Lewis & Vlad Klitchko). So with that being said it is time to drag your sorry ass into the Kronk Gym and see if Manny wants to waste his time on you or not, otherwise seek the same help somewhere but gotta change styles. Slow down be a little defensive and then time the offensive explosions. Otherwise I'm afraid he'll just disappear probably without us ever hearing anything else about him. ---------- Post added April-17th-2011 at 01:07 AM ---------- You're very right!!! It's about time Boxing showed it's merit. I can't get into the MMA stuff and don't classify it as the same type of "sport" even as boxing. Too much man on man wrestling and tapouts for me to call that a fight. It was refreshing to see a great entertaining fight tonight.
  19. Okay, I just did a search after you mentioned him going 12 rounds with Gamboa. I did see that fight but the fight was a boring matchup to me in general and I paid little attention to it at the time, enough to not even remember him. That was one of the few in a row that Gamboa had and was very much like a boxer more so than his knockout win over Solis.
  20. Who was the Salido guy, I don't recognize that name at all. Was this figured to be a JuanMa warm up for potential fight with Gamboa? JuanMa always seemed a little bit soft to me when I've seen him fight, can't remember who it was against but he didn't strike me as having the same toughness most of the puerto rican fighters have.On the other side though who is Orlando Salido? I was pretty confident Gamboa would destroy Lopez, guess this makes it more evident, I'd still like to see it though.
  21. I don't get Showtime guys, fill me in on a recap of what happened.
  22. Thoughts on Berto vs Ortiz Awesome fight, I had a feeling it was going to provide a spectacular knockout. For that I was incorrect on, but it did provide more entertainment than I've seen in awhile on the vicious uncertainty of who was going to win at nearly any given moment of the fight. For the first time in my life I think I could actually see on the fighters face (Ortiz face in about round 4) that he was going to take the title and Berto actually knew it as well. I think that is why Berto said he didn't feel to be himself in the fight, no kidding, its because that is what happens when someone really wants something and I mean really wants it. Ortiz came to this fight to destroy Berto and claim the title for himself. Berto came to the fight to win......that simply wasn't good enough for tonight even though on most nights he could of gotten by with it. I take my hat off to Victor and Andre though, they both fought like champions, they provided the fans of boxing with the type of entertainment and excitement for the sport which will leave us all looking forward to the next fight on HBO. Cheers to a good fight and to the hope that neither fighter is damaged goods from this fight forward in their careers.
  23. I'd definetly agree that Martinez would beat Kirkland at this point and probably at any point this year if they were to fight even towards December. I did get to see Kirkland fight one time back with his woman trainer, whom was very good by the way but has since left him since he got in trouble, but I can't remember but the following about him. Kirkland is ferocious, very cut, shorter arms, killer instinct and very good power. The fight I witnessed he simply destroyed the opponent and reminded me a lot of the young tyson in terms of just how pissed he seemed to show through his posture and nearly in each punch. I did catch the snipit from last weekend about how he won in 40 some seconds of the first round, this also looked like his opponent was simply scared along with Kirkland wanting to destroy someone since prison. On a side note, like you said, he will not beat Martinez without learning to adapt his style some because he does come straight ahead almost like a bull with nothing on his mind but to get you. I think Martinez would adapt and use his speed to punch and move out of the way probably with less combinations until he figured out Kirklands power. Would be an easy game plan though to win if he stuck to something like Mayweather vs De La Hoya (with a little less actual running away from him). However, with Martinez the one weekness I did see last night was he is willing to exchange punches a little too often. So his chin is just left wide open and if he runs up against someone that can make him pay power wise with a little faster draw than Kelly Pavlik (Whom isn't that fast) it could mean the end of his reign in a very similar way that Roy Jones Jr. experienced. Another fighter that could get to him (pending on how he is handled) Saul Alvarez aka Canelo. He is very young only being 20 but he looked real good last weekend. Again I don't think he can beat Martinez right now or at any point this year but depending on whom he can fight during the year and the progress he could make then we'll see next year. Good to see someone else in SC likes boxing though.
  24. That appears to be Donaire, can't see his face though I remember Donaire's knockout similar to that. On a side note last night on HBO Championship Boxing Fight #1 Andy Lee won but looked very bad and his upright stance would be easily defeatable for someone like Martinez or any of the upper tier middle weights. Lee knocked out an exhausted McSomething (Scots man) in the final round (10) of their fight. Lee mostly won because the other guy was out on his feet tired. Fight #2 Martinez has won me over as a fan, he changed his game plan to basically beat a better jabber with his own jab. He was faster the entire night and made a good solid fighter look bad. He knocked Dzinziruck down 5 times I think before they stopped it in the 8th I believe. I actually thought Dzinziruck was coming back around this time then out of nowhere beautiful combo punch up the middle put him down in a way that he got up but could never recover fully from before the fight was eventually stopped. Can't wait to watch Kirkland get into better shape and eventually challenge Martinez. He's probably the only one that could do it other than maybe a Paul Williams rubber match.
  25. That is a load, the fight was anything but boring, it was frustrating as a Pavlik fan for much of the beginning until Kelly started to get his timing right. Once the second cut happened it took his vision but more importantly it took his heart. Gatti as they referenced would of put everything into his punches when he through and wouldn't of just sat there trying to jab. Albeit I don't believe Gatti ever favored a jab anyhow the point was he had a new problem that was never dealt with in the past and he was clearly lost personally. The trainer Lowe told him to let his hands go but Kelly was shot at that point, more of a lets protect myself from this point forward rather than lets try and get the win. Also, Kelly needs to fire his cut-man, what a lousy job in the corner for so many rounds. You get what you pay for.
