CNN: RNC members draft new 'socialist' resolution

So much for the GOP being the "big tent". Kinda reminds me of Henry Ford's famous saying "You can have any color you like as long as its black." Seems like they are simply going to alienate people and create a larger third party.

RNC members draft new 'socialist' resolution

- Conservative members of the Republican National Committee are circulating a new resolution that calls on party members to stand up to President Obama's "socialist" agenda and would prohibit RNC funds from going to GOP candidates who disagree with elements of a proposed ten plank ideological platform.

The language of the proposal is still being tweaked ahead of January's RNC Winter Meeting in Hawaii, where it could be submitted for a vote before the full committee.

Jim Bopp, Jr., an RNC committee member from Indiana and the chief sponsor of the resolution, said the goal of the resolution is to "re-establish the party's conservative bona fides."

"This would establish standards for candidates and hold them accountable to RNC's conservative platform," he told CNN. "We are open to diverse views, but you do have to agree with us most of the time."

Bopp said such standards would insulate RNC chairman Michael Steele from the kind of conservative criticism he faced last month for supporting a moderate Republican, Dede Scozzafava, in the special election in New York's 23rd congressional district.

"I think he has been unjustly criticized for supporting the Republican candidate in New York," Bopp said of Steele, whom he opposed during the chairman's race last Winter. "This resolution will establish standards so that he wont won't feel obligated to support every Republican and not feel criticized."

RNC spokeswoman Gail Gitcho had no comment on the resolution.

"The deadline for submitting Resolutions for the RNC Winter Meeting is more than 30 days away," Gitcho said in an e-mail.

"At this point, we do not what resolutions will be submitted nor what the final language of any resolution ultimately submitted may be."

If approved in its current form, the resolution would be the second RNC document this year to formally accuse the Obama administration of pushing socialist policies. The committee approved a resolution in May calling on Democrats to "stop pushing our country toward socialism."

Ah yes, continued stupidity from the RNC and Republican politicos.

A golden opportunity to present a healthy alternative next fall, squandered

To be fair though, the GOP hasn't exactly pretended to ever be a "big tent"

Remember the Florida GOP's "Loyalty Oath" that they implemented to purge their local offices of Ron Paul Republicans and libertarians?

You are proposing that your GOP act like the Dems?
My GOP? All I am saying is that there are hypocrites here who are blasting the GOP for emulating THEIR Dem blueprint for success. Whoever was not in lockstep with the Dem agenda (see Lieberman) was castrated, vilified, and jettisoned. Ugly, but effective.

Yes. That's why there are so many Blue Dog Dems now.

Dean's big thing was a 50 state strategy. Don't concede any territory to Republicans. Work them all. And that means finding candidates that fit the mood and views of the voters in each individual locality. There was no purge of non-liberal Democrats.

It is hilarious that you believe this. The Democrats did the exact opposite. That is why people like Jim Webb and Heath Schuler are in Congress now.

I bet you actually believe that.

The Republican party should just get it over with and fracture into the groups that it really is. The libertarians can go one way, the religious nutjobs can go another, the Reagan worshipers can go here, the military industrial complex guys can go there, everybody is happy.

Nose,, I gotta say,, we've had a good run, my looks just won't be the same without you. I'll always remember smelling christmas cookies with you and that delirious breath of our first girlfriend's perfume....

but even with all of that... I'm just going to have to cut you off. I am REALLY mad at my face, so you have to go just to spite him.

Lol. That line sounds like something from The Onion.

I thought the same thing when I read it, I kept waiting for the punchline. Its amazing that they are trying to get everyone to goose step right along with them as if the elected officials were elected to serve the party rather than the people. Frankly I hope this litmus test works, I wonder how many more seats the Independents and Democrats will gain as a result of this purge.

Tim Kaine, the current head of the DNC, is pro-life.

Not in the strictest sense. He might be personally pro-life but he didn't use every avenue to pursue it. I would imagine we will see some different actions from McDonnell on that issue.

To the topic: How are they going to write this creed in such a way that doesn't rule out Sarah Palin's tax payer funded socialist oil pipeline?

True. But I think my overall point still stands.

And it's definitely going to be interesting to see what McDonnell does. He ran as somewhat of a centrist though his background suggests otherwise. This is a time where I think perhaps the single term limit in Va could be detrimental. If you don't have to worry about reelection, what's the interest in following through on what you ran on?

RRRRiiiigggghhhhtttt.

That's why the Democratic party has been such a model of monolithic, lockstep, political solidarity for the last 20 years, continuing to this day.
