The Ford's of the 1970s and 80s did suck, but they make a good car/truck now.

Audis, while very nice vehicles, are very poorly constructed. As is true with all German automobiles. If you buy a Porsche/BMW/Mercedes/Audi/VW, expect to get to know all of the mechanics at the dealership by their first name. But most people know that going in, and don't care because German cars do kick ass in performance, style, etc. They're just unreliable as hell.

Oh I know, I drive a 2001 Volvo S40 1.9 turbo (bought it roughly 3 1/2 years ago with less then 17,000 miles on it, practically brand new) and lemme tell you that will probably be the last European car I buy. This car is in the shop all of the time, the list to long to go over and not to mention the car parts and labor to fix the thing is down right criminal. I drive and maintain the thing like a baby carriage because I'm so afraid its gonna break.

I bought a car in 2003 and it came down to Honda Accord (2003 was the year of their latest re-design), Mercury Sable (my dad and brother both owned this car), and the Hyundai G350 (it was their similar sedan). I liked the G350 but didn't like the feel of the steering wheel. That was the one thing that really turned me off about the car. My wife owned an Elantra and it was okay (got hit by a teenage driver who totaled it). I wouldn't mind owning another Hyundai. This new one looks nice. The only question I have is... does the CD player support MP3 audio files? That is my pet peeve of all cars built after 2003... there's not excuse not to support MP3 CDs.

I dunno, it supports IPOD and has USB ports and a DVD player. I would imagine it does, the sound system is probably worth a ton.

You are thinking of the Nissan GT-R

first_photo_leak_nissan_gt_r_cars_image011.jpg

I'll take one of these.

OVC is right, Hyundai is :pooh:. You should feel lucky if you have one that hasn't cost you an arm and a leg to maintain. 100K warranty is nice, inconvenience of having to take it back to the dealer once every 2 months isn't.

God what an awesome car, too bad the closest I'll be to owning one is when I play Gran Turismo 5 later this year.

I like how you attempt to dispute one stereotype, and then perpetuate another.

I'm dying from the unreliability of my cars.

People I know that drive Hyundai's newer models have nothing but good things to say - though I wonder if that's just a practiced response considering they have to defend their choice so often. All cars tend to have a reputation that they can't shake. European cars are considered fun to drive but require the most shop time. Japanese cars are a little more boring but tend to be the most reliable. American cars tend to be uglier in design than both the european and japanese models but offer good bang for your buck.

Prove it. We have two hyunda's, an Azera and a sonata we haven't had a single problem with them except basic maintenance.

BTW the transformation oh Hyundai starter around 01-03, so yes any car before then is junk, but its like someone said earlier once you get that reputation its hard to shake.

I've owned two Hyundai's. Bought an Elentra back in 1997 (I was actually in a mind set that I should buy American at the time and tried to buy an Escort, but the Ford salesman kept trying to push me to a Tarus, which was more than I wanted to spend.). Put over 100,000 miles on the car in under 5 years. Never had an issue other than normal mantaince. Sold it when I moved to NYC.

My wife and I bought another in 2004. Currently, it has over 80,000 miles on it, and again no issues other than normal mantaince. It does ride a little rougher than our Toyota, but I kind of like that. Makes you feel like you are actually doing something and not sitting in a recliner watching tv.

And I love how you can't enter any discussion without acting like a total horse's ass.

The funny thing is that most people who own German automobiles agree. They are very high maintenance and very expensive to own. But when they are working, they work very, very well... which is why German automakers can continue to sell cars in the U.S. despite extrememe maintenance costs and hassles associated with them.

People don't buy BMW or Mercedes because they are better cars. They buy it for the badge.

Not true...a BMW is truely a better car than the Hyundai. :)

I do know my BMW mechanic well only because he is a friend and I often drink at his house.

I have had ZERO problems with my 2002 BMW 530i. Only see my friend for oil changes and once my brake light burned out....and I could have handled both things myself but....hey, I wanted to stop by and hang out with him anyway. :)

I find the whole Hyundai Genesis comparing itself to a 5 series BMW....
