Honestly, I don't think marketing departments think that through in regards to people asking "well, wtf were you using before that?", when a lot of times, I think they're just saying that to stand out. Caramel is supposed to be made out of sugar, when you make it out of something else, that's different. Like you said, chemical sweeteners, is that supposed to be somehow better for me? Instincts say "no", and besides, its caramel, its not like its supposed to be part of a diet, so why even bother making a more healthy version of it outside of focusing on bare minimum ingredients?
