REDSKINS ANNOUNCE 2014 PRESEASON SCHEDULE

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. – The National Football League announced its 2014 preseason schedule today, and the Washington Redskins’ four-game slate features their preseason debut at home against the New England Patriots, a home Monday night game against the Cleveland Browns, a road tilt against the Baltimore Ravens and a road date with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Specific times for all games will be determined at a later date.

Three of the four games will be shown locally on NBC4 and Comcast SportsNet. The Redskins’ Week 2 game against the Browns will be televised on ESPN’s Monday Night Football. All games can also be heard on the Redskins Radio Network.

Washington will open the preseason at home against New England, marking the teams’ first preseason meeting since 2009. Washington has won six of its last seven preseason openers, including each of its last four dating back to 2010.

The Redskins will play in front of a national audience the following week when the team hosts the Cleveland Browns at FedExField on MondayNight Football. Washington is 8-2 in preseason contests against Cleveland since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger. The Redskins have won three straight preseason games against the Browns.

The following week, Washington will make their road preseason debut when they travel north to face the Baltimore Ravens. The Redskins and Ravens met seven times in nine preseasons from 2003-11, but this year’s contest will represent the teams’ first preseason meeting after a two-year preseason series hiatus. The Redskins will be seeking their first preseason win in Baltimore since the Ravens’ inception.

The Redskins will conclude their preseason against the Buccaneers for a fourth consecutive year. Washington is 3-0 against Tampa Bay in the last three preseasons, earning a 29-24 home victory in 2011, a 30-3 home win in 2012 and a 30-12 road victory in 2013. The Redskins are 8-5 all-time against the Buccaneers in preseason play.

hmm...pretty good pre-season schedule right there. but sheesh, would gooddell give it a rest already? this is the 4th time we're finishing with the buccaneers...whats the deal? i understand the ravens, being in MD and all, but we always finish against tampa. give us a different team for once, like the jets.

Well, I guess from now on we'll be wondering who the 2 teams we'll be playing in preseason. The Ravens are a local rivalry and I'm glad the NFL pretty much has that written in stone for at least every preseason... but the Bucs? Something tells me the NFL likes reading Pittman4two on this board.

For my 10,000th post I drop this nugget on ES.

I LOVE the Ravens game in week 3.  Why?  Because Harbaugh is always trying to win.  It'll give us a real idea about where we are.

Here's to no injuries, though.  ***Looks at Jarvis Jenkins who may or may not be here anyways...***

10,000 posts.  You the man.

I loved back in the day that the 'Skins would run a 2 back system for pre-season, and then opening game, they'd come out with their traditional 1 back (ie: we have to find a way to block LT) set.  Gibbs couldn't get a rat's ass about pre-season.

I actually, for the first time ever, was hoping we'd be in the HOF game.  Just to give Jay one more game to prepare. Even if none of the starters even played a down, I think being a HC/Playcaller is a little different than being an OC/Playcaller, and I was hoping he'd have some extra practice at it.

Good point.

I really like him so far though.  The job isn't too big for him.  I almost get the rub that he's like a Harbaugh, which is obviously very good for us.

I'm very excited to see how this season pans out.  Was it Shanny or was it the players/cap penalty?  The truth is probably somewhere in the middle, but Jay seems like the type who is going to put his players in the best position to win vice forcing a system on to them.

Very exciting.

Er, no the Ravens are not a local rivalry. Only some Baltimore fans would say that.

I really have no way to judge how well he's doing, except that the team seems happy.  Which, I guess is cool with me.  Though I can't imagine that Bill B. is a "fun" guy to be around, and they are pretty consistently good.  So, we'll see.  I'm hopeful.

I agree that the job doesn't seem to big for him, and he's got a pretty good mentor in brother Jon, given that Jon also was a play calling HC, and a superbowl winning one at that.  But I think it's going to take some time to get into the groove of calling plays and managing the entire game.  There are not a lot of guys who are good at that off the bat.  It's probably easier for an OC, who can focus on the next set of plays between drives, while the HC doesn't have that luxury.

But, eh. We'll see.  Hopefully they do some simulated games and that type of thing.

I also am very interested to see what plays out this season.  There's no question in my mind that what sank last year were:

1. Bad QB play. Due to injury and missing the entire off-season. I know that there are a lot of people who will disagree, but the QB play last year from both QBs was C- to D+ at best.

2. Lack of players due to cap penalty.

3. Lack of trust between HC and team.

4. Snowball effect.

I was born and raised in Mont. County MD.  I have been a skins fan since 1972.  I now live in San Diego and can assure you that Skins vs. Ravens is a big game out here in San Diego with my East coast friends.  I love the fact and still talk smack at how the Skins beat the Ravens in both of the Ravens Super Bowl years.

I am curious about what the NFL knows.  They must know something to have made the Browns vs Skins game a nationally televised game.  Hmmmm, what relationship is there between the Browns and the Skins besides a young offensive coordinator?  Could it be that the Browns starting QB for that game will be none other than Robert's current backup?  Robert vs Kirk is a nice reason for a nationally televised game.

Make it so!

Odd to see the Browns in there. We play New England every once in a blue moon as well. Our usual mix of teams over the years seems to have been teams like Carolina, Pittsburgh, NYJ, Buffalo, Tampa, etc.

Looks like the Ravens are the dress rehearsal. Like someone else said, that will be a good indicator of where the team is at, if nothing else from a coaching/game management perspective. The Ravens are a pretty thorough/fundamentally sound team, from the top defensive player to the bottom player. And Harbaugh loves his trick plays. That will be a good one.

I just hope nobody  gets hurt. Them boys play hard. Can't be any ho hum preseason 50% effort unless a guy wants to get his arm ripped out of his socket.

Actually, with the Bucs new uniforms, its like playing a whole new team.

I still have no clue why they go rid of the blood red/pewter. Those were some of the best uni's in football.
