That’s a lot of money for half a season or so

He missed 3 games last year. I think we should have paid him. He’s going to be better than whatever rookie we draft in year one and the 1st year of QB development is critical.

Re-sign Lucas and draft at least one Tackle. Simple.

That's very possible l1156.  That thought has entered my mind.  He could be resigned on the cheap.  Josh Jones was an option and maybe still is.  We wait and see. I think a LT is signed via FA.

At WR, I think I'd rather have Tyler Boyd than Michael Gallup. Maybe even Michael Thomas over Gallup. Definitely Mike Williams over any of these guys if he hasn't actually signed yet.

At OL, Trent Brown is still available if anyone wants to put up with his attitude; and I don't think Josh Jones has signed yet. Also, at G, Risner is still available. Also wondering whether we might re-sign Leno eventually.

Like Boyd....but he's rumored to Pittsburgh, where he went to college.

Let's get Simmons amd  xavien in and I'd be over the moon

The more I think about it, I don’t think paying the high end guys is the plan, nor should it be. There should be some responsibility from the coaching staff to “coach em up.”

Players should be developed and groomed into the “all-pro” players we covet.  We’ve brought in culture builders, tone setters, that the younger guys should aspire to.  Peters is doing his job as GM, Quinn and his staff have to do the other half, player development.

Think I’ll go to training camp this summer, should be some chirping and helmets popping!

I think Riggo was referencing the fact that over the last 4 years, Smith has only played a cumulative total of less than 2 season's worth of games. So, on average in his recent-ish history, he misses around half a season.

Last year, fwiw, he actually missed 4 games.

Andrus Peat is interesting. Played LG until last year, which he spent at LT for Saints due to injuries, and apparently played well (?).

I've been thinking about him too.  And it wasn't just a desperation thing, he was a tackle in college

4 games. Hes only played in 30 games the last 4 years, and hasn’t played a full season since 2015.

Wow. Better than I thought. I would have guessed that he PLAYED in three games before guessing that he only missed three games.

The cowboys are gonna have a lot of comp picks next year for the blow up and rebuild.

Hopefully we already have an established franchise quarterback on a rookie deal and we keep them in our rearview.

1-year for up to $20M.

Too rich for me. I’d be out on that.

To be fair if I had to pay these guys I’d be out on anything over $20…

I guess it depends on the up to part.

I have a feeling it's not close to that unless he plays most of the games.

Kenny pickett mightve ruined the trade for caleb

Any potential trade for Caleb would hinge on Chicago's evaluation of Maye/Daniels, not Fields. Fields stinks and is not an option for them in any scenario.

Without doubt, we could have used T. Smith and, given our cap situation, we could have afforded overpaying him, but I'm glad we didn't. At this culture-building stage, the front office needs to exhibit the same dedication to discipline that it wants to demand of its players. I do worry that we're going to put our rookie QB in harms way (i.e. Brian Burns), so we will need to sign a vet LT before training camp.

steelers may go in for fields harder now

I think it’s a foregone conclusion…

But whether that happens or not won’t affect the Bears decision. They’re going QB, and it’s likely Williams.
