The Rivera crew was filled with "lifers", coaches holding on from season to season, whose best years were clearly behind them.

Don't forget he also brought in a former High School coach. It's nice to have decision makers who know what they are doing. I've said in previous posts that Quinn is well respected around the league, so it doesn't surprise me that he's putting together a quality staff.

Still a chance for a DB coach IF Dallas allows Harris to get out of his contract or Zimmer hires someone else for Harris's coaching spot. Longshot more than likely.  Hoping for Tapp at DL coach but whoever it will be and the rest of the hires, LB coach etc., I'm sure that most of us will be pleasantly surprised and happy.

I can honestly say this is probably the most optimistic I have been about staffing hires this team has made in recent history. I spend my work day excited as hell to refresh the page to get more news/updates as well as to see the optimism from other posters. Could....we....be....actually.....winning the offseason.....the right way for once?!?!

Under Larry Izzo, Seahawks Continue to Put 'Special' in Special Teams

Excelling in all phases on the third side of the ball, the Seattle Seahawks have taken on the identity of their coordinator Larry Izzo, emerging as the best special teams unit in the NFL.

Since getting off to the races with a 6-3 start to surge to the top of the NFC West, little has gone right for the Seahawks as they have fallen out of the playoff picture by losing four of their past five games.

But while Seattle hasn't been able to run the ball with any consistency on offense nor slow down opposing run games and limit explosives on defense for more than a month, behind the scenes, the special teams unit has once again emerged as arguably the best in the NFL. Thriving in all facets in the third phase of the game, according to Football Outsiders, the team leapfrogged Baltimore into first place in special teams DVOA with three games left to play.

Following the lead of coordinator Larry Izzo, who was an esteemed Pro Bowl specialist during a stellar 14-year career with the Dolphins, Patriots, and Jets, as well as assistant Tracy Smith, the Seahawks play smart, aggressive, and tough on special teams. His imprint can be seen on everything they do from kick and punt coverage to field goal block to the kick return game.

"What it is is the core group, the core group that Tracy [Smith] and Larry Izzo have put together out there," coach Pete Carroll said when asked about Seattle's standout special teams play. "They've got a really good complementary group of guys led by [Nick] Bellore... All of the guys have contributed with really good perimeter play from gunners and hold up guys. It's just a really well-rounded, well-executing group. We rarely have big, big errors and penalties are not a big factor for us. We're really good at that. So it's just a complete group."

Showcasing the speed Carroll raved about during the offseason and training camp with numerous young players such as receiver Dareke Young and safety Joey Blount contributing, Seattle's kickoff and punt coverage units fly down the field, swarming returners before they have a chance to get up to speed. Anchored by captain Nick Bellore, who leads the team with 11 special teams tackles and finished second in Pro Bowl voting among NFC specialists, they rank first in kickoff DVOA (6.1) and seventh in punt DVOA (4.4).

Earlier in the season, the Seahawks punt coverage team single-handedly propelled the team to a 27-13 victory over the Giants, as tight end Will Dissly and running back Travis Homer forced a pair of fumbles by returner Richie James that set the offense up with great field position. The two turnovers led directly to 10 points for the home team, including a game-clinching touchdown run by Ken Walker III midway through the fourth quarter that extended the lead to 14 points.

The Izzo hire sounds great, but if he's that good, why did Seattle let him go?

They let their whole staff go.   Shane Waldron who some thought was one of the best offensive coordinators in the league, and a potential HC candidate was also let go

I 100% believe Rivera used Dan to hook all his friends up. It seemed as though he was just there to take the money and run. There seemed to be no actual plan.

Doug Williams out here with the "leaks" again. Even though its obvious that we are taking a QB at #2, the fact that he's talking about it on national television feels like he's messing up whatever leverage we have with our pick. Seems like there is always someone in that building that is trying to shoot us in the foot...giphy.gif

Thanks. I'm laid up post eye surgery face down on a massage table. I was going to use the time to be productive, but I'm a drooling frittata with cross eyed vision. This will be great.

Get well quick! Prayers!
