Do you really need to go to a range to practice with a shotgun?

Or when you are going to use it to shoot a target at point blank range?

That **** needs to die.  Death penalty for her.

RISING STAR, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – Roughly a month after a Texas third-grade student found a gun belonging to a superintendent in a school bathroom, parents expressed their concerns that they weren’t notified sooner by school officials.

In January, the Rising Star Elementary student found the gun and immediately notified a teacher without touching the weapon, superintendent Robby Stuteville told Nexstar’s KTAB. The gun belonged to Stuteville, who said he and the school’s principal open carry on campus.

Stuteville explained that he took off the gun and placed it in a stall while using the restroom. The firearm remained in the bathroom unattended for about 15 minutes before it was found.

“There was never a danger other than the obvious,” Stuteville claimed last week. He then went on to say he was “proud” of the student and commended their behavior after finding the firearm. Speaking with KTAB on Thursday, Stuteville said he was no longer bringing his weapon to school.

Other parents say they felt the issue was being over-emphasized, even addressing their crowd of fellow parents to reprimand.  “How many of your kids have access to guns in your own home? A bunch of you, including mine. I think it’s a mistake and I think that you pointing fingers at him for doing something like this is wrong,” a parent said to the crowd.

KTAB spoke with Giovanni Mata, a gun owner and the father of a third-grader involved in the incident, on Friday. According to Mata, a teacher sent his son to check on the gun after another student reported it.

I am confident that if he wasn't carrying a gun and they weren't so easily available,  that kid would have gotten a gun off the black market or dark web and shot that guy to death anyways.

/s (in case some of you couldn't tell)

Probably would have killed him with a hammer.

(For explanation. There actually is a Gun Nut Talking Point. One that I've actually had somebody use, to my face, claiming that it's a fact that every year, more people are killed using hammers than guns.)

Alabama basketball player was arrested earlier this season for shooting a woman.  His teammate, the star player, is accused of giving him the gun used for the murder.

From the linked article:

Asked by AL.com why Miller was not charged, Tuscaloosa chief deputy D.A. Paula Whitley said, “That’s not a question I can answer. There’s nothing we could charge him with,’' according to the law, she said.

Salt Life founder, 56, admits to shooting dead teenage girlfriend in ‘play gun fight’

A co-founder of apparel brand Salt Life has pleaded guilty to manslaughter charges in the death of his teenage girlfriend.

Michael Hutto, 56, was sentenced to 12 years in prison on Monday for the October 2020 killing of 18-year-old Lora Grace Duncan, local news station WPTV reported.

Hutto, a married father of four, previously claimed that he and Duncan were “playing ... as if they were shooting with their finger and a gun” when he accidentally shot her inside a room at the Hilton Singer Island oceanfront resort in Palm Beach, Florida.

He then fled the hotel room with the weapon and was taken to a hospital days after the shooting when authorities found him parked illegally outside a gas station in St Augustine. Records show that he was “twitching, making delusional comments and crying while his eyes were rolling into the back of his head”.

Duncan’s body was found by police on 29 October 2020 after her parents tracked her cell phone to the hotel room. Hutto was arrested in Jacksonville the next day.

California agents went to retrieve one gun from a 'prohibited' person. They uncovered a hoard of illegal weapons.

The attorney general of California on Tuesday announced felony charges against a man found with a large cache of illegal firearms at his residence in Azusa, including machine guns, silencers and tens of thousands of rounds of ammunition.

Officials say the incident underscores the importance of the state's Armed Prohibited Persons System, which identifies people who lawfully procured firearms and later became prohibited from owning or possessing them.

"In our efforts to retrieve just one gun from a prohibited individual, we found dozens of illegal weapons and thousands of rounds of ammunition," Attorney General Bonta said in a statement Tuesday.

The man is alleged to be legally barred from owning weapons due to a mental-health based prohibition and was listed in the database as owning one firearm, the statement said. Agents from the California Department of Justice’s Bureau of Firearms initially contacted the man at his residence to retrieve his outstanding firearm but were denied entry.

Um, what?

Tennessee bill would allow officers to carry guns while under the influence

A bill working its way through the Tennessee legislature would allow police officers in Tennessee to carry weapons while under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances.

The bill is sponsored by Republican senator Joey Hensley of Hohenwald, Tennessee.

As introduced, the bill would also allow for guns to be brought into parks and college campuses.

But, the bill would prohibit anyone, including people permitted to carry firearms under federal law, from carrying weapons on elementary, middle and high school campuses, expect by what the bill simply identified as "certain persons".

George Santos cosponsors bill to make AR-15 the National Gun of the US

Freshman U.S. Rep. George Santos, R-N.Y., is co-sponsoring a bill that would make the AR-15 the National Gun of the United States.

The legislation, H.B. 1095, known as the AR-15 National Gun Act, was sponsored by Alabama Republican Barry Moore, FOX New York reported. Georgia Republican Andrew Clyde and Colorado Republican Lauren Boebert have also signed on as co-sponsors.

"The anti-Second Amendment group won’t stop until they take away all your firearms," Moore said Tuesday at a gun shop in Troy, Alabama to announce the bill. "One rule to remember: any government that would take away one right would take away them all."

What happens when the AR-15 is no longer the most popular gun in the US?  That will happen, probably in the next couple of years:

Parents anxious after two guns found at Ohio school in two days

Two guns were found at an Ohio high school in two days.

According to Reynoldsburg police, officers found a semi-automatic rifle on Wednesday and a semi-automatic handgun on Thursday.

"Your heart rate goes up," said Barth Cotner, who has a son at Reynoldsburg High School. "Your anxiety goes up, and you can’t help but be a little nervous and scared."

On Wednesday, Cotner received a text from his son while the school was on lockdown.

"He said he was just in his room, in his classroom with other students, and they had stuff in front of the door," said Cotner.

Kenya Ford, who has a freshman daughter at the high school, received a similar message.

"She was texting me, 'mom, you know I’m nervous. I don’t like this,'" said Ford. "The next day, she didn’t want to go back to school."

Reynoldsburg police said the semi-automatic rifle was found in a student's backpack on Wednesday. The school went on lockdown, and police took the student into custody.

"No 14-year-old, 13, 15-year-old child should be able to have a gun and bring it to school," said Ford. "Teenagers are already unstable as it is. It’s ridiculous."

Then on Thursday, police said a semi-automatic handgun was found hidden in an administrator's office. Police and school leaders are not saying who brought the gun to school.
