Zelensky’s motorcade nearly hit by Russian missile as ‘Ukraine prepares for counter-offensive’

Volodymyr Zelensky’s motorcade was nearly hit by a Russian missile on Wednesday as the Ukrainian President visited the Black Sea port of Odessa.

Zelensky was with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis when the missile hit infrastructure close enough for the leaders to see the strike, with sources estimating the attack happened a mere 500 to 800 metre distance from the delegations.

“You see who we’re dealing with, they don’t care where to hit,” Zelensky told reporters in the wake of the incident, which killed five people, according to a Ukrainian navy spokesperson.

Counter offensive? With what weapons? America has left them high and dry. I hate to say it but the best thing for Ukraine right now would be Zelensky getting assassinated and galvanizing western support.

Russians are unable to replace fuel at Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant's power units

The operating time of nuclear fuel at Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) is expiring, and the Russians will not be able to reload it.

Source: press service of Energoatom, Ukraine’s national nuclear power company, with reference to a statement by the company's CEO Petro Kotin

Details: He noted that the fake administration of the Zaporizhzhia NPP is unable to reload the fuel, which is about to expire after six years in the reactors.

"To do this, it is necessary to disassemble the reactors, gain access to it [fuel], and then carry out a very complicated technological operation to reload it. This requires licensed personnel, which is not available for them now. It also requires complicated management and technical decisions on what to do with the fuel that will be unloaded. There are people there who have never done this before," said Peter Kotin.

Background:

  • There are no Energoatom personnel left at the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP.
  • Zaporizhzhia NPP has experienced eight full and one partial blackouts since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
  • Over the two years of occupation of Zaporizhzhia NPP by Russian forces, more than 150 gross violations of NPP operation have been recorded, each of which could be fatal.

Probably meant Russian counteroffensive.

Every offensive after the initial attack has been billed as "counter offensive" because it followed an offensive from the other side.

I don't think Zelensky getting assassinated would help.  It would just make it seem like Ukraine was a lost cause.

Ukraine war: India busts network trafficking people to Russia

Authorities in India say they have busted a network of agents sending people to fight for Russia in Ukraine under the pretext of giving them jobs.

The agents were luring people through social media, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) said.

The network stretches across several states and about 35 people have fallen victims to the racket, the agency said.

The development comes after two Indians, who were duped into traveling to Russia, were killed in the war.

The CBI said in a statement that the traffickers were operating under an "organised network".

It said that agents were using social media channels such as YouTube and their local contacts to lure "gullible" youth to travel to Russia by promising them "lucrative jobs".

Earlier, a man from Uttar Pradesh state living in Moscow had told the BBC that he had been lured to Russia by a YouTube channel, promising a monthly salary of 150,000 rupees ($1813; £1,415).

"We were not told that we are being drafted in an army," he said.

The CBI said it had found that trafficked Indian nationals were being trained in combat roles and deployed at front bases in the Russia-Ukraine war zone "against their wishes, thus, putting their lives in grave danger".

The agency has filed cases against several private visa consultancy firms and agents, conducting searches at 13 locations, including Delhi and Mumbai.

Here's the thing, an awful lot of the right is staunchly, rabidly anti-Russia, have been since birth, it's in their DNA. There is a terrific amount of subsurface tectonic pressure building up that they're not going to admit to publicly but at home, they're raving about this. It's the same kind of pick a side **** that Catholics are facing at the moment with Pope Frankie's white flag comment. It will build and build and eventually, burst like a dam. Gotta wait it out but it's gonna happen, it's when, not if.

In the meantime the Europeans are collectively scrambling to make up the difference. Those 800K 155 rounds will make their way to the front soon and make a difference, especially as the Russians advance and get more strung out more openly, making them better targets. This isn't a video game, it's a war, and the countries watching this are taking it very seriously.

Once again, all the people that never paid any attention to history are clutching their pearls and wandering around in circles squawking loudly, a lot of them on TV. Yes, right now the trailer trash faction in Congress is blocking resupply, but stocks are rising in the background and when the time comes, the Ukes will get an awful lot very quickly. In the meantime they are falling back and inflicting major materiel losses on the Russians. Manpower is not the issue, hardware is and they are burning it at a terrific rate for every meter they gain. And the treasonous Rs here are sacrificing their chances politically for this short term blockage. It will come back to bite them in the ass in November.

And to be honest I seriously doubt that the Ukrainians are getting discouraged. They are going to redouble their efforts and do more with less while they have to.

Thinking that Biden needs to make this an issue.

Russia has invaded and conquered part of another country.

My predecessor's response to this was to recognize the conquered territory as part of Russia.

The result was Russia massing their forces, and try to conquer more.

My administration's response, was to assist Ukraine in defending themselves.

This effort did not involve any direct use of the US military. It involved weapons. A lot of them, older weapons that were in storage anyway. And intelligence. But the actual combat has been done by Ukranians.

It has resulted in what a simplistic analysis would probably describe as the destruction of more than half of the Russian military. Without any actual US conflict.

All its cost us, is some money. A lot of US corporations are going to make a lot of money, selling our military newer, better, weapons.

And Russia's response to that has been to give instructions to Donald Trump and the Republican Party. "Make the US stop equipping Ukraine, so we can win."  And Donald Trump, and the Republican Party, have saluted, and complied.

You can choose to vote for one plan, or the other.

I don’t think it is a winning issue, despite the fact that it should be. If Biden talks about Ukraine it’s just going to be about how he is focused on spending billions abroad and doesn’t care about crippling inflation or the crisis at the border.

Biden should focus on what a criminal he is and how he is a friend of war criminals and despots, without mentioning Ukraine directly.

your idea is too complex for most Americans to grasp.  Another problem is that your argument relies on the supposition that American democracy is just, and I don’t think a majority of Americans believe that anymore.

Yes, I could easily see you trying to spin it that way.

Since, after all, you just did.

Yea it’s too easy, which is why it would be a mistake for him to bring up, politically.  😉

his focus should be on how bad Trump is.  Win on facts.

Deciding what is more important between foreign and domestic issues is a losing strategy.

Problem is, your spin isn't true. It's a deflection. (And a poor one.)

Not one dime of that aid is "being spent overseas".

The weapons are being used overseas. But the money is going to US companies hiring US workers, to build replacement weapons.

It doesn’t matter if it is true if it works, lol. The goal is to get votes, not tell the truth.

Maybe Biden could some votes if he talked about it from this angle. The key is to avoid saying we are supporting Ukraine, as far as the election goes. Going keep it about us. “A weak Russia makes America strong, we are putting Americans to work with increased military spending, and securing the boarder is a part of the military spending”, “Trump is a criminal”, “Trump is friendly with war criminals and despots” are all more effective than “We need to stand with Ukraine to ensure democracy is protected” or the logical stance you were explaining.

Ain’t no voter got time for all that reading.

If it doesn’t fit in a line they don’t have time.

To me, it does. To a majority of Americans I don’t think they have time to sift through the fact and fiction and some of them just don’t care to. That is who is voting in 2024.

Just a matter of misdirection and large-scale misinformation from both sides. Independent verification of their claims are critical, always have been.

So...are you talking about battlefield assessments, or the treatment/attitudes of the 30% of the Donbass population who are ethnic Russians?

Mostly referring to assessments the sides provide to the global community and media.

So hard to generalize attitudes of the Donbass population. There's some stark generational contrasts, and other dynamics too, especially for families living close to the contact line.
