To be fair, this franchise's idea of improving itself is replacing Joe Gibbs with Jim Zorn, calling itself the Commanders and replacing burgundy and gold with ketchup and mustard. 4

How are you going to criticize Washington for drafting him because it would be too expensive to hang onto him long term right after saying it was a smart signing by the jags? 7

Because the 3-14 Jaguars are Super Bowl or bust and Brandon Scherff was the missing piece 👌 Edited March 14, 2022 by Bacon

The guy is right, taking a guard in the top 5 is not economically responsible in the NFL if you're not gonna pay them, especially after they've made multiple pro bowls.

I still can’t reconcile how the Jags signing him is a smart move but if we had signed him to the same deal, it would be overpaying.

CommDownMan
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dante_Fowler Ironically the jaguars picked 3 the year Scherff was drafted and I bet they wish they had taken him. Maybe a guard is silly at 5, but even with injuries we won that one. Even Winston and Marietta at 1 and 2 weren't very exciting to this point. Yes, and he has stubby arms which are better suited for the phone booth style altercations that a guard encounters.

If he had stayed at tackle, he probably wouldn't be as good a player at his position than he is now at guard. Some people are born to play guard instead of tackle. Our very own Ereck Flowers is one of them. Scherff might not be nearly as bad as Flowers at OT, but I don't think two coaching staffs would pass up on an all-pro OT if they had one sitting on the roster. Not for the sake of Morgan Moses. Right, a contributing reason why he is a very good guard and wasn’t worth wasting the time being an average RT.

How are you going to criticize Washington for drafting him because it would be too expensive to hang onto him long term right after saying it was a smart signing by the jags? I think they're referring to position value. By taking a guard at #5 overall you end up paying them like a top guard in the league and don't really get the benefit of the rookie deal. Not sure what the going price for guards was in 2015 though. A better example is the Giants taking Barkley #2 overall. Because of where he was drafted he immediately became a top 5 paid RB so even if he played like a top RB the Giants would break even in contract value. Compare that to Chase Young who plays a premium position. Young's making roughly a 3rd of what the top edge players make. So if he plays like a top 5 player you're getting great value years on his contract. Edited March 15, 2022 by drowland 2
