As long as Dan owns the team, the team will have attendance issues.  Part of that will be due to the team's performance but there will be a part due to people not wanting to give Snyder a damn dime, regardless of the team's performance.

Attendance this year will be like it is every year.  The only way you will see more attendance by Commies fans is if we get off to a 8-4 or better start; then you will probably see more fans down the stretch.

It won’t happen. This team has had good starts/halves in recent seasons… and it didn’t stop the decline.

It’s going to take more than 1 good/great season to get fans back. This isn’t just about winning/losing…. Washington fans aren’t fickle.

I think there will be an uptick in attendance this year if they can get the sports book up and running in time. Shouldn't be too hard.

Apparently you're not allowed to have it open game days. What's the point?

Washington Commanders received initial approval to put a retail sportsbook at FedEx Field. The NFL's current policy prohibits sportsbooks inside stadiums from opening on gamedays. Source says Commanders know this stipulation and plan to move forward in compliance w/ the policy.

posted this about the seat geek deal in the front office thread. The sports book wont help attendance directly but more so indirectly. they have made an effort recently to make improvements to stadium even if some our cosmetic. revenue from a sports book would go a long way to continued improvements, player contracts etc, would would likely help with attendance

They couldn't have those chairs at the Linc. I'm not sure they are necessary but it's cool.

I read articles from 2020 indicating that teams would be allowed to operate sportsbooks in stadiums on gamedays as part of the CBA that year. Did something change?

That’s still the case, but each team still needs to obtain a license from their respective state governments, which is what Snyder just did

Looking at a bunch of different articles on the subject now. so far that seems to be the only mention of that rule. trying to find something more definitive

this suggests it will be open on game day

Yeah I don't actually have twitter so I can't verify that tweet being accurate. I looked up some articales about the Cardinals site and it says you can bet on gamedays.

It seems atleast right now that you can bet on game days. That should in theory of course bring in at least some attendance I would imagine. Especially considering the lack of options for sports betting right now in Maryland. I’m going to venture a guess it’s going where there the team store was

Did they get rid of the team store entirely or move it?

They moved it. I’ve been at the stadium I think four times since mid July and where the team store was just has signs on the doors saying under construction but every time I’ve been nothings been done other than everything’s been ripped out. That’s part of why I’m guessing that’s where it goes probably waiting for approval before doing actual work

The stadium was loud.
The upper deck was 60 percent full, the lower deck was 90 percent full.

Looked pretty full to me.  I’m hoping to make it to the Iggles game in two weeks. A lot of Redskins, Football Team, and Commanders jerseys in the crowd today on TV, which is totally cool.  Embrace them all and let people come around at their leisure.

58192. About 10 percent increase over last year's opener. Step in the right direction.

We have a true identity again and the pandemic is winding down.  Both are factors in the increased attendance today.

What makes it even more impressive was the predicted forecast for today

I had discounted the pandemic's effects last season, but its possible that it being more of a concern for people in 2021 impacted attendance.

It'll be interesting to see if they can sustain this going forward. I bet we do have a good amount of Philly fans here in two weeks. The Titans game in early Oct will be interesting.

Yep

i was there with free suite tickets from my work. The new Redzone parking got me out in 5 mins and was home in an hour and 20 mins. And I live in Mt Airy Md

The Redzone lot isn’t new. Probably close to 7-8 years old. Used to be GreenB43. When it was a Green lot it was the worst because that back exit/entrance was closed. Now it is the best, with the tailgate double parking spots. And quick get in get out.
