Do people realize what an insane blessing it is in the football world that we actually already had a young EDGE  on the roster who could push a transcendent talent like Chase Young to be better everyday? Almost nowhere else in the league could Young have been drafted and met his match, physically and mentally. We all know Sweat is a freak, but it’s crazy that these two guys are on the same roster at the same time. Chase would effortlessly be the best on most teams he could have been drafted to, but he landed on the team that has one of the few dudes who can push him to be better every day…and the same goes for Sweat in the opposite direction, obviously. They have the potential to have historic careers if they stay healthy and stay together here long-term.

You’ve both missed the reference…I present to you, none other than:

Darnarian McCants

Too Tall McCants?

Missed the reference, spelled the name right.

Darnerien McCants is now an R&B singer and Ashburn-area high school coach.  He may even be one of us....  (Online, nobody knows how tall you really are.)

Actually, it’s Darkerian.

Sweat strikes me as a guy that's always gotten by on his freakish athleticism, but now that Young is there, he's getting pushed harder too. Plus the interior guys are all extra hard craftsman too. I think it's awesome that chase and sweat went to the same specialists this offseason.

Stuff like that, like Curtis and Terry rooming together again to study plays, is the stuff that makes me realize how special and hungry this team is.

Its not a stretch...he was healthy and did everything asked of him in the chances he got. As a short yardage guy he was good. Had he been called on to be the feature back he'd have been fine being that too. Bottom line is that he's a dependable pro who is fine as a 3rd back, short yardage back and special teamer. I hope Patterson turns out to be Barry Sanders but until he is I'm not discounting Barbers value to the team.

Plenty of guys do everything that's asked of them; that doesn't suddenly mean they were a big reason for a team's success or weren't a very mediocre player. And I don't see any historical reason to believe that if he'd been called upon to be a feature back he'd have been fine. Through his whole career he's always had a below average Y/A, even when he rushed for over 800 yards for TB in 2018. I think you're attributing more talent to him than he's actually ever displayed.

He's decent at pass pro, but I don't think he's anything special. It might just appear so because our other two backs were so bad at it.  *shrug*

Pass protection aside..the real reason is because barber hardly ever fumbles. That's exactly what you want in a short yardage back. Out of 645 rush attempts he has only fumbled 4 times..that's pretty good if not great.

Yeah Sweat and Chase are now clearly tight.  You can see some of that in practice.  Agree with your take that Chase is likely pushing Sweat.

@Skinsinparadise curl at FS? Interesting

The DB coach said that both safety positions are interchangeable. With Landon being somewhat an unknown starting the season, I could see all three safeties (Landon, Curl, Wilson) playing a lot and Reeves is supposedly poised for a big year so he would be in the mix too.

When you are primarily asked to pick up 1-2 yards against a stacked box, anyones YPA will be skewed down.  That's his role. (I'm not a Barber fan, I'd rather see us keep Patterson and use Cosmi/Collins/Reyes as a 3rd down hammer if needed)

Collins, McCain, Curl and Forest are the only locks at safety. Reaves is a 4.7 40 guy that was routinely picked on and had no playing time most of his first 3 years. I doubt he makes the 53 over Everett who's a ST captain.

It's probably the first time sweat isn't the big dog on the line, especially at DE and it's clear. I think with them playing off each other and competing, it'll really elevate both of their games. Pretty great situation for us.

For anyone who hates the fade they wouldn’t like what am seeing. They are practicing that a lot, ditto shallow crossers and slants in the red zone.

am learning Fitz can put some mustard on the ball when he wants to, seeing some good velocity from him
