Sure you could make that case.  But then, if you follow that logic, you’d have to say that the correct value for Olave is Dotson plus a third and fourth.  And that Dotson is not worth as much as Olave.

Yes you would.

But we didn't value Olave as much as we did Dotson given the fact we traded him away.

So in that scenario one team valued Olave at 11, one didn't. Three teams valued Dotson at 16.

Gotta go BPA here. Maybe a G/OT or CB. I could see S/LB though. I have a feeling they “reach” and take best prospect to play Buffalo nickel vs BPA in round 2.

Might be able to trade back a bit in that case. It sounds like Troy Anderson is a name to watch if you pay attention to Keim. He keeps mentioning his name in Round 2 as a LB who can also play the Buffalo Nickel.

@Skinsinparadise has gotten the Trey McBride bandwagon rolling and I like it.  He is a really good player and I think he could be a BPA candidate at 47.  I had him at 58 but could certainly see a case where I ranked him too low.

The only hesitation I'd have is that I'm pretty high on Isaiah Likely and I really like Cade Otton's potential too if he can get healthy, and I think you can get them with our third rounder.  Likely is as fast and fluid as a receiver and Otton is one of those prospects whose best football could be ahead of him due to a combo of the program kind of falling apart when he hit his upper classman years and finally earned his playing time after some NFL guys graduated + had some bad injury luck.  His route running looks really good and his movements skills are so fluid and fast that I think he could be a steal.  He's tough too, not afraid to make his hay in the middle of the defense.

I think McBride is a good fit.  And if you know the backstory, he sort of fits the progressive culture that Ron seems to be a fan of and this team is trying to portray they are turning a corner on.

Likely actually isn't as fast.  He ran a 4.8.  He has a 4.83 RAS.  That's part of what turned me off to him.  McBride is the better blocker.  Likely to me physique wise looks like a WR.   As an F type of TE, Likely intrigued me some but for a dude that is supposed to major in being a F TE type -- 4.8, with terrible agility scores including the 3 cone -- made me pause.

I hate going with sort of mock drafters "conventional wisdom" as for rankings.  But I am with them on the top 2 TEs. I think its McBride and the Dulcich.  Dulcich is more of an F. Super high Wonderlic score.  17.3 YPC.  Makes big plays down the seam in Wentz's wheel house spot, good YAC guy.

I like Otton, don't love him but he reminds me of a little more juiced up Bates.  Y-TE.   Solid player IMO.

Kolar and Woods as I've mentioned many times intrigue me.

I wonder if Woods is their guy -- with their late 3rd round pick?  They seem to covet athleticism.  He would be that guy in this group.   Raw but developing.    Freakish athleticism.  He had a 6.95 cone and he's 250 plus pounds.  You talk about a catch radius, wow with him being 6 '7.  Has some athletic arrogance about him too that I like.

Forgot about McReary. He'd be a hell of a pick up too.

I would love the pick. Ron talked about watching his top players performed against elite competition. And McCreary showed the **** out.

If his arms were 2 inches longer he would have gone in the first, which is silly.

Yeah if Hurts is even average at all the Eagles are gonna be scary. Fortunately he is absolute dog doo doo as a passer. But they'll still probably beat us.

Easy rush yardage breaks your defense down holistically, even if you can match up in the secondary.  Plus Hurts is actually a really dangerous RPO passer.  We could have really used Hamilton or Lloyd or Davis to help stop their ground game.  We could still really use Dean or Pitre too, and might be able to get them.

Dean is a modern linebacker.  Can line up over the slot, can blitz, and is one of the most instinctive guys that you'll find.  Effortlessly flows gap to gap to find the ball.  He's some kind of brilliant guy with an engineering degree.  You just don't find kids who are that kind of smart with elite pursuit and closing speed at linebacker very often.  He's a lot stronger than he looks too, nice pop in his hands and readily benches much bigger blockers who come climbing up to him.

IMO Dean is the key for our defense reaching the next level.  That and finding a way to keep Payne or else adequately replace him.

If we had an idea that Payne may go why not resign Settle and look to move Payne in the draft?

Now I really want to know what those offers were.  I like Dotson and all, but Lloyd and Linderbaum were on the board until late.    One of them plus an extra second or future first would have been a pretty spectacular haul.

Don't know but listening to Keim today they had London ranked #1 at WR.  then they had 4 WRs they thought were close after London, Dotson being the last of the 4.  So they really really really didn't want to tap into what in their mind is the next tier of WRs yet in the first yet they wanted 1 of those 4 bad.

KC/GB/WAS

Indeed. Aaron Rodgers was on the Pat McAfee Show during the later parts of the draft last night. They asked him his thoughts on GB not going WR in the 1st round AGAIN. He said he knew GB had 1st round value on 6 WR's and once they were all gone that defense was the plan.

Dotson seemed to be mocked to the Packers at #22 quite a bit, so I wouldn't be surprised if Dotson and Burks were the WR 5 and WR6 in this scenario. Makes sense, you don't want to reach. Green Bay has the picks on Day 2 to still grab some players. Could trade up as well. Christian Watson, John Metchie, George Pickens, Skyy Moore. They could even double-dip at 53 and 59 since they went defense in the 1st.

Feels like everyone turned on Corral at some point before the draft.  I thought this board had him as our consensus QB1 when I polled the thread.  It was either him or Willis by like a single vote.  Then all of a sudden everyone dropped him and now I'm one of the only ones left who still had him highly ranked.  Just me and @Skinsinparadise it feels like.  I didn't revisit my QB takes after we traded for Wentz.  What happened?  To my eye he's the best RPO operator of the class and that fits well into the kind of run game we want.  Arm is pretty dynamic.

I've got Howell 39 on my board, I would consider him a fairly significant value pick of +8.  The rules of BPA are different for QBs, but not entirely so.  I prefer Willis, Corral, and Ridder, but if Howell was the pick, that would be pretty exciting.  It's the kind of pick that seems wasteful right now when we're all picturing ideal outcomes with Wentz, that comes back and saves everyone's job when Wentz crashes and burns.

I also think this was a bizarre, quirky off-season for QB movement and drafting where the caliber of QB prospects available in the second round is probably not going to be this good again for a long time.  I liked Davis Mills and Kyle Trask more than most last year, but they were not as good of prospects as any of the four QBs still on the board right now.  Mills had the potential to be a high level prospect, but coming into last year's draft his resume really sucked.  A guy like Howell who has so many high level seasons of starting experience and had a first round type pedigree doesn't usually drop to 47 most years.

I think we can get a first round talent with a second round pick in a unique and fleeting window.   But I also get the point that we need to give Wentz a serious shot.  I am so tired of QB controversies anyway.  Ron and company need to get married to a QB and picking such a high upside back up to breathe down Carson's neck feels exactly like what facilitated his failure in Philly and led to their coaches getting fired.

Then again Wentz does get hurt...  His style of play is so rugged that he will always have the specter of injury hanging over him.

Tough call and I'm glad I don't have to make it.  Kind of hope there is a QB run before our pick so we don't have to be haunted by passing over any of these guys at 47.

If they didn't trade for Wentz, I'd roll the dice on one of these QBs for sure.  I agree that they are good value here in the 2nd, unusually so.

Corral -- good mobility, quick twitch-quick release, good arm, tough as nails baller.  I am not though sure about the intangibles.  I've heard mix things on that, not all bad, some of it is good.  So I guess that's the power of interviews and research.  Apparently at least according to an ESPN reporter this team probed deep into Corral.  So if that's the case then they probably have a better sense of the dude than we would.

His RAS is good enough. I like Chig out of Maryland though better in the 4th.

I've actually been plugging McBride.  I was saying he's a better athlete than Likely.  It's Likely with the poor RAS.

I don't think Walker/Hall will be there at 47.  Early 2nd is where the RBs usually go.  NYJ, Atlanta, Houston, and NYG could all take RBs.

I think ATL, especially with having multiple day 2 picks, should be jumping to the top of the 2nd for Willis.

Seems like we're always behind the eight ball.

We trade down in one of the worst years to trade down as far as value goes. (no QBs to trade up for) The draft value charts say that moving from 11-16 should net you more then what we got. (a very late 3rd and 4th)

Then we draft a WR. That's not a knock on Dotson; just any WR in general. I know I'm not alone in thinking we're all going to be watching Hamilton making plays in Baltimore for years.

Draft is young though and these are supposed to be the money rounds. Could still draft a QB in there.

Bada/Toohill/Toney all played well last season. As did Smith-Williams and Rotimi.

We have depth on the D-Line and picked up that Obada guy too.

Payne has low value right now and trading him is another behind the eight ball move. With Chase/Allen/Payne/Sweat we should've looked ahead and traded Payne when his value was higher knowing we wouldn't be able to keep all 4.

Ah ok. Yeah RAS means more for TE than any other position. 7 of the 10 top TEs in the league by PFF ratings at least have a RAS of at least 9. 8 of the 10 over 8. All over 7.

Going back to Burks for a sec.

Being that a lot of these guys are from Carolina. I can see how Burks weight fluctuation and rumors of him being out of shape during the combine could’ve given them Kelvin Benjamin vibes. They were burned by that in the past. KB started off well then the weight issues took his career off track.

I do like Dotson, but I am bummed we don't have more picks though to be honest. Lot's of good talent to be had in these mid rounds - lot's.

Rivera seemed to indicate last night they had a group of players worth taking in the first round and they didn't want to drop to far down in the first.

I think Andrew Booth, Kyler Gordon and Roger McCreary are at the top of my list for wants in round 2.

Hall/Walker are up there.

Dean is there.

But we need secondary. And if it's a safety it has to be a deep patrolling type that can roll up. I don't see many who fit that bill that are value at that range. Pitre maybe? But he is more of a box guy.

Yeah I see Pitre as a slot player and box guy for the big majority of his snaps.

I am interested in Booth if we run a lot of Cover 3.  He's probably a really good fit for cover 2 also.  He is physical and I think his the biggest striker and block destroyer of the corners in this year's class.  Be nice to have that kind of presence on the outside.  But I would worry about the fit if we play a lot of man.  Ditto for Gordon.

McCreary is interesting because he'd bring something unique and valuable to the group.  Eric Crocker talked about how New England's philosophy for secondary play is so multiple and they collect guys who specialize in different coverages so that they can change their defense week to week.  They've had a ton of success with that philosophy and it'd probably be good for us to copy it and bring in a variety of DBs.  A press man specialist like McCreary would be nice.

Another name I want to throw out there is Coby Bryant.  Could probably trade down from 47 and still get him, and I think he might even still be there when we have that pick around 90.  For those who aren't familiar with him, he's the Thorpe Award winner from Cincinnati who had an even better year than the dude who went 4th overall.  He is a big and vocal personality who was a leader for that excellent defense.  Good build with some strength to him.  Perhaps not ultra fast, but he's a confident match up.  He matched up with Jameson Williams pretty well and helped keep him quiet in the first round of the CFP.
