Not sure what the big deal is, ice is just “common water.”  The Governor is telling people to stay off the roads.  Hello???  What about my Freedomz?

It's actually pretty bad here. Rolling blackouts for days, most likely for through Friday. We have about 3-4" and ice and it's going to rain/snow again tonight into Thursday early early morning. I only take Dancer out. Texas isn't prepared to treat streets and roadways in these conditions. It snowed earlier but the Sun came out and the snow melted around noon.

Although I do like your last question! They don't want to protect themselves and others from the pandemic but they will stay off the streets when it snows.

Ron Johnson and the emerging hoax-ification of the Capitol riot

In 2017, a white supremacist who attended a rally in Charlottesville drove a car into a crowd of counterprotesters, killing one of them. President Donald Trump leaped into controversy by saying there were good people on both sides of a rally organized by racist groups. The remarks drew condemnation from many Republicans and even a high-profile White House aide, Gary Cohn.

In the months and years that followed, though, something happened: Trump’s allies sought to rewrite the history of Charlottesville to fit Trump’s claims. It didn’t happen instantly, but eventually a conventional wisdom emerged among his most devoted supporters that the official Charlottesville narrative had been wrong all along — that there were indeed good people on both sides because this rally organized by racist groups included a significant number of non-racists who simply wanted to preserve Confederate history. They have come to label it the “Charlottesville hoax.” I debunked it here, as did The Post’s Fact Checker.

A similar effort is afoot regarding the Jan. 6 Capitol riot — except it’s emerging much faster.

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), who joined 42 other Republicans on Saturday in voting to acquit Trump at his impeachment trial, spent a fair amount of the rest of the holiday weekend downplaying the events of Jan. 6.

“This didn’t seem like an armed insurrection to me,” Johnson said on WISN. “When you hear the word ‘armed,’ don’t you think of firearms? Here’s the questions I would have liked to ask: How many firearms were confiscated? How many shots were fired?”

He added in another interview: “To call that an armed insurrection, it was the most pitiful armed insurrection anyone could possibly imagine.” He said he was “literally never afraid” during the riot and suggested that the danger to Vice President Mike Pence — about whom rioters chanted, “Hang Mike Pence!” — was overblown.

Johnson’s comments bear some resemblance to what one of Trump’s lawyers said at the Senate impeachment trial last week. At one point, Bruce L. Castor Jr. said the word “insurrection” didn’t apply.

“Clearly, there was no insurrection,” Castor said. Such a thing “involves taking over a country, a shadow government, taking the TV stations over and having some plan on what you’re going to do when you finally take power,” he added. “Clearly, this is not that.”

This was later contradicted by another member of Trump’s team, Michael van der Veen, who said: “The question before us is not whether there was a violent insurrection of the Capitol. On that point, everyone agrees.”

Except clearly not everyone agrees. Fox News’s Tucker Carlson has been downplaying the severity of the riot since shortly after it occurred. A piece on Townhall.com has declared it wasn’t even a riot — just a “a few dudes dressed like Conan the Fauxbarian acting like fools and occasionally fighting with the cops.” Carlson and others have ridiculed Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) for talking about how scared she was, with many of them butchering the details. Still others have compared the melee to racial justice protests this summer.

There are myriad problems with all of these claims, the biggest being that five people died, including a police officer, and that two more officers have taken their own lives since then.

Masterful work of the gop as always

trump doesn’t get held responsible and the gop gives all their fervent supporters an out to use in court.

I said this weeks ago. The “the sitting President told them to do it to protect their country” may wind up being a better defense than anyone wants to admit at the moment.

Brent Bozell IV, Son Of Prominent Conservative Activist, Charged In Capitol Riot

Leo Brent Bozell IV, the son of conservative activist L. Brent Bozell III, was captured on video inside the Senate chamber during the attack on the U.S. Capitol and has been charged with three federal offenses, according to a federal criminal complaint unsealed on Tuesday.

Bozell is charged with obstructing an official proceeding, entering a restricted building, and disorderly conduct. The complaint features several images of him on the floor of the Senate, where he was wearing a sweatshirt featuring the name of a Christian school. Online sleuths focused in on him because of that sweatshirt and posted videos of his activity online. They also found photos of him serving as a girls’ basketball coach at another school in Hershey, Pennsylvania.

Bozell is the son of L. Brent Bozell III, a major conservative political figure who founded a number of organizations aimed at countering “liberal media bias,” including the Media Research Center and NewsBusters. He is himself the son of L. Brent Bozell Jr., who worked as a speechwriter for Sen. Joseph McCarthy (R-Wis.) and as the ghostwriter for Republican presidential candidate Barry Goldwater’s book “The Conscience of a Conservative.”

The irony of intentionally filming oneself, and then broadcasting the video, discussing murdering FBI agents, while "I'll be watching you" plays in the background.

It's like the phrase "anything you say can and will be used against you" has never sunk in.

Maybe it's the belief that cops only do things to them other types?  Don't know.

Pelosi says 9/11-style commission on Capitol insurrection should have subpoena power

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) says that the 9/11-style commission that will investigate the Jan. 6 insurrection on Capitol Hill should have subpoena power.

“There’s really strong support in the country for us to seek the truth, find the truth, but also understand how we have to protect the American people from what might be out there in terms of domestic terrorism and the rest,” Pelosi said at her Thursday press conference, an apparent reference to the far-right rioters.

“You have to have subpoena power,” she responded when asked if it should have the ability to demand testimony.

Pelosi first announced Monday that a commission will probe the events of Jan. 6, when a pro-Trump mob stormed the Capitol in an effort to prevent Congress's certification of the 2020 Electoral College vote.

Man from Buford arrested in connection to Capitol riots

A ninth person from Georgia has been arrested in connection to the insurrectionist siege of the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.

The FBI Atlanta Office announced on Twitter that Verden Andrew Nalley, 49, of Buford had been arrested earlier this week with assistance from the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office.

The FBI account said charging documents for Nalley would be posted to the Department of Justice website that has catalogued the other arrests associated with the Capitol riots, but those were not yet available Thursday morning.

According to Gwinnett County Jail records, Nalley was booked on Tuesday and released on Wednesday.

He is expected to have a 2 p.m. detention hearing Friday before U.S. Magistrate court at the federal building downtown.

So not only are the Rs in Congress dragging their feet about a commission to look at the riot, some of the House bumbleheads are accusing Nancy Pelosi of being to blame for the non-response of the NG.

Well of course they are dragging their feet; considering many of the gopers were co-conspirators.
