The schedule release grabs more ratings than regular season NBA/MLB/NHL games. It also gives the NFL another few weeks of press during the boring period after the draft. It’s a win-win for the NFL. When the schedule was 16 games (17 weeks), the final bye week possible was, i believe, week 13. yep, just checked, last year the final two teams to have a bye week were the Bucs and panthers, in week 13.
