Every year, some jackoff has to remind us all of how Die Hard is a Christmas movie. Hell, maybe they even think it’s the BEST Christmas movie. Every, single, year. Go choke on a wet sock.

Its little know original development title was "Die Hard: How The Grinch Stole the Nakatomi Plaza"...true story.

Pfffft obviously its the Xmas claus from Futurama...that dude comes packing...plus runs an elf sweat shop...

I just watched the Futurama Christmas episodes a few hours ago, so naturally I was thinking the exact same thing.  I miss that show.

Die Hard is not a Christmas movie.  It's my first salvo in the War on Christmas.

its not. I don’t get it. I can’t tell if it’s a joke or if it’s just a bunch of “dudes” being macho saying their favorite Christmas movie is die hard bro

it has no Christmas values or Christmas message. Christmas has nothing to do with the plot. Nothing special occurs because of Christmas

It’s just an action movie that barely takes place during Christmas season but had nothing to do with the actual holiday.

is Batman Returns a Christmas movie because it takes place during Christmas season? **** no. That’s not basis for anything

Are we just randomly listing Christmas movies we hate?  That’s a war on Christmas I can support.  If so, im going with A Christmas Story.  I don’t know how this awful movie managed to dig its way into American culture, but it’s time to burn it off.  It’s boring because it’s terrible.  It’s terrible because it’s boring.

I married into a family that thinks this is the greatest Christmas movie ever

so

i have to watch it every year

sometimes twice because it’ll be on randomly in early December when we stop by and of course we have to watch it. And then again on christmas

Your assessment of the movie is empirically accurate.  Having said that, and a completely unrelated observation, you can hide an awful lot of rum in a conventional glass of eggnog.

...just sayin'...not a suggestion or anything 😉.

I think my favorite thing about this post is it implies the existence of unconventional glasses of egg nog. I'd like to know what those are like.

I mean a christmas office party does not really have anything to do with christmas in regards to it's qualification as a christmas movie.

The entire backdrop for Die Hard is that it takes place INSIDE a Christmas party. It's a Christmas movie.

Irrelevant. They could be meeting for literally any office party or gathering and the movie doesn't change at all. It doesn't lose it's message, it's plot, it's visuals, it's songs, it's dialogue etc. Christmas has zero impact on this movie.

Top 5 worst takes of December too.

This is a timeless and hilarious  Christmas classic.

Not only are you a monster...but it most certainly is...in fact Christmas is a vital part of it.

Even if you can dismiss Christmas lights being a vital part of how the little ****ers were killed...

The whole back story of the girl...I mean c'mon...her father died on christmas trying to get down the chimney dressed as Santa claus...

So I say good day to you sir....

I don't remember any of that. I'd have to watch again to provide an educated opinion

2 things I think:
1. i think any movie that takes place around christmas and in which Christmas or it's festivities play an important part is INDEED a Christmas movie. Die Hard is, it's an ACTION Christmas movie, but it's still a Christmas movie.

2. I can't stand when the stores and everybody goes ape **** for Christmas in mid-November or before. (I get why stores do, that dollar is getting harder for them to grab.)
But overall it just cheapens it. Takes away everything special about it. Forces it, and really, makes a mockery of what it is all about. As a kid, how hard is it to hold the excitement for 8 weeks or more? How long before it just becomes part of the background?

This atheist feels weird in that i think the reverence that should be in place for the day is lost in the contrived commercialized glut of cheesy false nostalgia. It's like these parents who try SO ****ING HARD to make their kids childhood the most specialist magicalist time..  and they forget that what makes childhood so magical is that it isn't forced, the love you feel is real, it is safe and secure even when it really isn't, because all that makes the real world hard hasn't encroached on you yet. You don't need much to make something special.

I enjoy watching the Cinema Snob on youtube who reviews the all the Christian persecution movies.  He's got some good one's on the War on Christmas themed movies also.  I recommend the Snob's review of Christmas With a Capital "C" and Last Ounce of Courage.  I'd post the video's but they have a language.

But it wasn’t any office party

it was a Christmas party. And Christmas is part of the plot throughout in different ways.

so this idea the movie has nothing to do with Christmas is factually incorrect. This idea that Christmas could be replaced with other things is fine, but it wasn’t replaced with other things, and you can apply that logic to a lot of moves to claim they’re not about the thing that the actual plot involves and is about...

I get that you don’t like it. Unfortunately you aren’t the authoritative figure on the subject of what elements of Christmas must be involved to qualify as a Christmas movie.

maybe just have your own opinion and be cool with the idea that others have their own opinions too ;)
