goskins10
I know there is non-president race thread but thought since this really the only significant race left it might be worth it's own thread, especially for those outside Georgia. Some background that many may know but just to be clear - Georgia law states that a candidate for Senate (I think it's true for House races too but not sure) must receive >50% of the popular vote to win outright. If no one get's >50% then the top two candidates with the most votes participate in a runoff. No one in either Senate Race in GA received >50% so both seats will be determined by a runoff election. Details are below including their respective campaign sites so you can look at who they are on your own instead of me regurgitating their bios and stuff. Note: The numbers might be slightly off as they are latest I have. But none should off be by more than a few individual votes.: Run-off Date: January 5, 2021 New Voter* Registration Deadline: December 7, 2020 *Note all those registered to vote November 3rd are eligible to vote in the runoff election. But new voters can still register. This is important to keep in mind. How they got here: Regular race - (R) David Perdue Incumbent elected 2014: 2,455,652 (49.8%) (D) Jon Ossoff: 2,364,394 (47.9%) (I) Shane Hazel: 114,483 (2.3%) (R) David Perdue (https://perduesenate.com/) and (D) Jon Ossoff (https://electjon.com/) make the runoff. Special Election: (D) Raphael Warnock - 1,611,016 (32.9%) (R) Kelly Loeffler - Incumbent, Appointed by Gov Brian Kemp to replace Johnny Isakson - 1,269,840 (25.9%) (R) Doug Collins - 977,884 (20%) (D) Deborah Jackson - 322.394 (6.6%) 16 candidates mixed R, D, I, Green, etc - 714,807 (14.6%) Party Breakdown - R, D and Other breakdown: R = 2,419,495 (49.4) D = 2,368,396 (48.4 Other = 109,480 (2.2%) (D) Raphael Warnock (https://warnockforgeorgia.com/) and (R) Kelly Loeffler - (https://kellyforsenate.com/) make the runoff. In the end the Dems will need register more people a lot more people to win most likely. Can Stacy work some more magic? Of course unless Rs are not as motivated since bunker boy is gone. Both are long shots but as Yogi Berra said - "It ain't over till it's over." Hope some people find this useful.

88Comrade2000
Keep Stacy. Abrams involved. She can do it and then Joe can give her an important job in his administration.

goskins10
Here is a decent article from NPR outlining the Perdue Ossoff race. https://www.npr.org/2020/11/06/931720639/georgia-senate-race-between-david-perdue-and-jon-ossoff-edges-closer-to-a-runoff I can tell you from living here the ads have been some of the most negative I have seen, from both but really from Perdue. He has been calling Ossoff a traiter, a terrorist sympathizer and of course the the he is an extreme socialist. Perdue is a trump loyalists and is campaigning right out of trumps playbook. Kelly L is also a trump stooge. Will be interesting to see if Rs are a bit demoralized with trump not going to be in the WH. And will trump come here to stump for the two Rep candidates? Do they want him at this point? If the miracle happens and both these seats go blue, it would mean a much easier path to Bidens agenda not to mention removing the actual traitor McConnell as speaker. visionary
A little worried that all the support, money, volunteers from out of state will backfire, and provide fodder for ads about yankee carpetbaggers telling Georgians what to do.... skinsmarydu
Y'all are so awesome...to care enough to donate anything to Georgia is a pretty cool thing, and that you care enough to help us keep fair democracy working can't be thanked enough. We love you, thank you, tag us anytime(I assume @goskins10is in). I'll be online with the Ossoff campaign Thursday, gotta get a friend home from surgery on Wednesday, then I'm a full-on GO. Burgold
This is my hope. 2018 represented the true spirit of the GOP. They are the party of Trump not the Republican party. So, with their guy not on the ticket a lot of 'em stay home. Now, usually it's the GOP who show up for runoffs and midterms, but maybe without Trump to boost them they stay home? After all, if there's nothing in it for him I don't see Trump really rallying for any republicans. In fact, I could see him throwing gasoline on the party and say they didn't support him enough. wrilbo67
Just as a counter-argument here— one of the reasons the Republicans keeping winning these high profile state races (Beto for senate, Abrams for governors, Collins for senate in maine this year), is that Republicans are highly effective at messaging about the outside money (i.e.: us) pouring in for the Democratic candidate. I’d support Stacey Abrams as she seems to know what she’s doing in her home state but I’d also be very cautious that giving to some of these organizations will have the unintended opposite effect. Burgold
You’re right about that. A writer friend suggested Republicans tend to speak in snack foods while Democrats tend to speak in broccoli. Even more simply, democrats speak in paragraphs full of nuance while republicans speak in simple digestible, declarative sentences. i, personally, like the paragraph s because I realize that issues are complex and I want to think them through, but I can sympathize with the idea that simple messages are powerful ones. Chump Bailey
McConnell, Loeffler, Graham, Rick Scott on and on are just indicative of the systemic rot in the system. How people can keep putting these types in power is mind-boggling to me. I am also tired of hearing the Republicans' favorite buzzword thrown around: socialism. I'm hoping Yang can help. I also hope he is involved in some capacity with Biden's Administration. Yang is the only guy talking about the problems we face and not kicking the can down the road.
