All of this boils down to Trent not wanting to play for the Skins anymore.

Can you honestly blame him? He's been here a decade. Would be weird if it didn't want to see what it was like to play for at least as competent organization -- or maybe even a contender.

I think you're right.

And, I can't say that I blame him...but I also think that he allowed the speculation to run wild which painted the Skins as the bad guys here. If he wants out, that's fine. But he needs to just own that.

But...the Skins could theoretically let Trent sit out for 2 seasons as they have his contract through 2020.

You really think Trent wants to be completely out of football for 2 years? He'd be coming back into the league being 32 years old with a previous history of injuries, and not having played a single snap in 2 NFL seasons. No way would anyone give him a huge multi-year deal; he'd get offers for 1 year "lease-to-buy" contracts where he'd have to prove that he was still good and could stay healthy.

Not only that but he also wouldn't get paid for 2 years as his last 2 seasons don't have the guaranteed money. The team could continue to fine him as well and eventually take him to court over it and end up taking even more money from him.

He's not in a great position unless he really has invested his money well and doesn't mind being out of football for quite a while.

Sure they could let him sit out for 2 years. But that's not in the team's best interest either as it would be really bad publicity and our team's already in bad shape on this side... Taking him to court wouldn't be a good move either for those same reasons.

Being taken to court could also have him fight back with medical stuff trying to prove that team doctors lied to him for whatever reason (just guessing here, I'm not saying he can or can't hey!). Which wouldn't be good also.

Damn... I was about to say that our FO isn't that dumb. Then I realised that it's Dan and Bruce running the show and they are that dumb...

Assuming our new left tackle is telling the truth, Trent recommended he sign.  Leads me to a couple questions:

1.  If Trent was really unhappy and distrustful of the organization would he really recommend it to his friend?

2.  If Trent was thinking he would ever return would he recommend his friend come in with the impression he will be the starting LT?

I thought Penn handled his press conference extremely well.  He said if Trent came back he could be the swing tackle.  That sounds like a great outcome.  It was pretty clear he preferred to stay on the left side.

He did get a second opinion. That would be the group that looked deeper and immediately removed the tumor. The real gap is the sense of urgency between the medical staff and the end surgeons.

Trent could also have just googled how serious a head tumor is. That would have fueled his frustration around the cyst misdiagnosis.

Do you acknowledge that a football trainer and team doctors are not specialists, in oncology or dermatology, to properly diagnose a cyst/growth/tumor or even make an educated guess as to the severity of said growth/cyst?

Even specialists have to do a biopsy to confirm if it's cancerous or benign, but, they have been properly trained and seen enough of these things to make and educated guess as to the next course of action (removal, urgency, etc.).

The teams staff told him that they did not think it was serious based on what they saw, but still recommended he see a specialist for a 2nd opinion.  Perhaps they thought it was nothing serious because they had seen similar cases where a cyst/bump/lump appears on someone and it was simply just a huge cyst that needed to be lanced and drained.  That happened to my friend once, on his neck.

It wouldn't be good for either side, and I'd certainly rather it not happen. I'm just saying that IMO the team has plenty of leverage against TW as they could simply call his (potential) bluff and tell him "ok, sit out for 2 years with no paychecks" if they really want to play hardball. And if they really get a fire under them about it they could theoretically take him to court over the fines. Who knows how it would play out (claims about doctors, etc) but it would be taxing on both sides.

Here's my question back to you - Do you acknowledge that people not property trained to diagnose unusual growth, shouldn't give a diagnosis?

The training staff/internal doctors diagnosed it as a cyst and after recommending a 2nd opinion, then also responded that it wasn't an issue. Shouldn't their response be 'we aren't qualified to make that diagnosis, so we won't do it'?

As opposed to trying to understanding Trent's frustration and work to find a middle ground you are disregarding it's validity?

Bruce, is that you? Are you actually posting on the boards of the team your the GM?

What do you think is happening right now?? Nobody is commenting. You are SPECULATING and casting Judgement with NO PROOF. The FO is doing the right thing right now. Keeping conversations private, talking to Trent (not the media) and taking action to insure the team is prepared for his absence. What the hell do you want the FO to do? You act as if the FO went out of their way to piss off TW

If they end up with a compromise they can also forgive the fines too per the Washington Post article this afternoon.

I doubt he will make an 8th Pro Bowl this year.  I would like to see if we can get a number one draft choice for him.

We have lost for years with him on the team so we can also lose this year if he is not on the team-- he needs to think about that

because you know the Prince of Darkness (aka Allen) has already thought about it long and hard.

So about Trent, who does he want gone, the medical staff, Bruce, or both? Because this has nothing to do with money. Also can they just let him have his own independent staff as he's still under contract for 2 years I do believe. I know one person that isn't leaving and his initials are B.A.

I'm guessing that it at least partially has to do with money, even if only tangentially.

It really just seems that you're craning your neck as much as possible to find a reason he should be directing his frustration at the team doctors. I'm sure he was angry, scared, frustrated, etc. when he was told by the second opinion that it could be a malignant tumor. But directing that at the Redskins is where I get confused.

Antonio Brown quit on his team in the middle of a playoff bid because Juju surpassed him, let the fame get to his head, threw his teamates under the bus, and demanded a huge raise 2 years into a 5-year extension.

Trent is nothing like this dude. He had a falling out over a medical issue. Show me a doctor who has correctly diagnosed an illness 100% of the time, and ill show you a liar. Its unfortunate that he wants out, but its probably for the best for both parties.

Trent has quit on his team, has durability issues, threw the doctors under the bus, and is demanding a a huge raise 3 years into a 5 year extension.

Brown has missed 7 games in 8 years, has never been suspended and is younger than Trent.

Both guys wanted out thus really backing their teams into a corner.

The only thing that's working for Trent is he plays a much more exclusive position in terms of scarcity.

And there was the recommendation to “play through it” and to get the 2nd opinion during the off season. That is the real kicker. So Trent, thinking it’s minor (and it luckily was), waits until the offseason when, I speculate, a specialist told him it could’ve been more serious. A tumor, even non-cancerous, could easily pose a significant risk if is associated with one of the 5 main blood vessels that leave the brain. If the tumor ruptures due to trauma, itself a living tissue that is engorged with blood, could cause a serious bleed-out. Pure speculation on my part but I’m guessing this is what Trent learned in the spring and why he is furious. And, it would give reason why his response was delayed.

In the legal world, this negligence is called ‘shared negligence’. Most blame is on the Redskins medical staff but clearly Trent has some blame too. In the end, the tumor was treated and health risk was fortunately avoided. But I can certainly understand Trent’s anger.

That said, he has a contract.

I tend to agree with Sheehan on this. Skins should see what they can get in a trade. Maybe some stud LT gets hurt during preseason and a team offers a first.

THAT I would understand. But if he's lying that it's about his health. Then that makes him a POS to use something that people suffer from every day (cancer) as an excuse of being tired of losing football games. Then just demand an out and do what you can do to help that team get you to a contender.

Also, if Trent was a team player but also wanted out, then letting the team know earlier would have been ideal. The way it looks to me is he purposely waited til after the draft and free agency, thus screwing over the organization. He also unintentionally (or intentionally) screwed over his teammates.

You say there is no proof, but then also say the FO is doing the right thing. How do you know the FO is doing the right thing with NO PROOF?

What do I want the FO to do? Be transparent and accountable for things they didn't do right and quickly move towards a solution. Maybe Trent is just wacko and is asking for the sun, moon and stars out of the blue. Everything about his character suggests that's not the case.

When measuring the character of the FO it's tough to look past some of the failures we've had.

Well, if that account is true then my opinion definitely changes. I hadn't seen that they told him to play through it and wait to get a second opinion. Certainly changes my outlook.

Can we get a link to the story with this and if it was confirmed.

Saying to "wait" would be ****ty. But we need to hear that for sure. I'd think most NFL teams would fly in a specialist during the season for especially a high priced player.

Proof: Media hasn't a Clue. No leaks

Proof: BA says he is talking to Trent directly and the conversation will remain private

Proof: Robinson and Penn

Want more??

You quoted me but I was quoting someone else. The post I quoted by @JaxJoe was the first I had heard of that myself.

Thanks for sharing...to me that gives Trent a legitimate gripe.

I'm perfectly fine with the team doctors saying "we think you're good, but please go have a specialist check it out ASAP" but if they suggested he wait any amount of time, then it's quite shady.

2nd doctors said "get your affairs in order"? That seems pretty awful also.

So, now we have Sheehan saying the team docs did say get a 2nd opinion after saying they thought it was cyst. If you're saying that even with they don't think it's serious. I would think that means....get somebody else to look at it.

I thought Bruce handled Cousins just fine.

Only mistake was offering the 2nd franchise tag...but that’s where our gullible, self-loathing fanbase (you) influenced the process.

Blaming the fanbase for Bruce’s mistakes. Phew.

I guess giving up the goods and a big deal to Smith is the fanbase’s fault too.

Who knew that all along the fanbase is to blame for the bad decisions in Ashburn.  All of you...you’re fired!
