The Bruce Allen/GM Thread

Except Jerry holds the title openly and everybody knows it.  He’s the President and GM of the Cowboys, it’s on the website, and that’s that.

Every owner hires the coach.  It’s a complete made up fallacy that you hire a GM and then the GM alone picks the coach.  It never has nor will it ever work that way.  The owner is always involved.

Hell, Rooney openly talked about how impressed he was with Tomlin and that’s why they hired him.  Kraft hires Belichick.  Lurie had a hand in Pederson.  You don’t think Mara makes the final decision on the coach of the Giants?

Yes, the GM is absolutely a strong voice in the conversation and the owner should not override the GM, or ignore him.   But it’s complete fallacy to think the owners just sit back and allow coaching decisions to be made without actually making the final decision.

This is not s defense of Dan.  He hasn’t gotten anything right yet.  But the narrative that owners just sit on their hands and do nothing is completely false.

Snyder is far more involved than every owner except Jerry Jones. Jerry at least has the courage to go on the radio multiple times a week and answer media questions.

Dan wants to make the decisions but to never be held to account or even questioned. That’s the huge difference. Every other owner you mentioned interacts with the media and is somewhat accountable.

Precisely why I think there's a high probability of bruce staying, Dan needs a filter for media/fans and bruce has a firm grasp on that role.

And Bruce’s Bruce is Doug Williams. He might add DHall to have a second lackey to put in front of the media when it gets rough.

Redskins team president Bruce Allen will be out of running football operations by Monday, per multiple sources.

Is that another way of saying he’ll still be with the organization, just given a new job (in charge of getting the new stadium deal) instead? Or does that mean fired completely?

Maybe it's just worded poorly, but that sounds like he's still going to have some kind of a job here, which is a very bad thing.

Exactly that’s what it sounds like to me as well...... why do we need him in order for a stadium deal to be done? GET SOMEONE ELSE, doofus Dan!!!

He needs to be completely gone from the building. Revoke his keycard and get him the hell away from all things Redskins. The last thing we need is another McCloughan situation, where Bruce weasels his way back into any kind of decision making.

Get rid of that asshole.

Good luck with that (stadium deal). Essentially he'll be hanging around for 5 years with nothing to do except giving Dan some of his football advice. No thank you.

One positive, however, would be that whoever the new guy is that is named GM, most likely won’t have a drinking problem, so hopefully it’ll be harder for the team to be able to use an excuse to can the new guy :P

This is awesome! Its happening. We're going to have a legitimate football team. Weve got a lot of talent on rookie deals and an assload of cap space.

Don't get too excited just yet, let's wait and see how this thing plays out. Just trying to save you from mega disappointment :)

Obviously the big question is if Bruce Allen is completely out of the Redskins organization. I dont know that yet. Plenty of news to come in what is going to be a crazy busy week for the Redskins.

Thls may mean that Bruce is being forced into a "take it or leave it" position in which case we need to hope he leaves it.

This kind of thing happened to Joe Banner with the Eagles and he quit. Banner was a good GM too. Let's hope Bruce's ego doesn't allow him to get bumped upstairs and out of the draft room.
