Here's how much Newt Gingrich's defunct presidential campaign still owes creditors

All hail Newt Gingrich — still the king of presidential campaign debt.

Gingrich's 2012 presidential campaign committee continues to owe creditors more than $4.63 million, according to new financial documents filed Monday with the Federal Election Commission.

No other presidential campaign committee from any past election cycle owes more.

Gingrich's committee debt has largely remained the same for the past decade, with dozens of campaign vendors who haven't been made whole.

Ex-Florida GOP lawmaker who sponsored so-called ‘Don’t Say Gay’ bill sentenced to prison

A federal judge on Thursday sentenced to prison a former Florida state legislator who catapulted to national attention for being the sponsor of a bill barring classroom instruction about sexual orientation and gender identity that was called by its critics the “Don’t Say Gay” bill.

Former Rep. Joe Harding (R-Williston), who plead guilty in March to one count each of wire fraud, money laundering and making false statements as part of a scheme to fraudulently obtain a $150,000 federal Covid-19 relief loan, was sentenced to four months in prison.

U.S. District Judge Allen Winsor, who was appointed to the bench by former President Donald Trump, also sentenced Harding to two years of supervised release following his prison sentence. Court records show that Harding is scheduled to surrender to authorities on Jan. 29.

The Bush and Trump Tax Cuts Added $10 Trillion to Our National Debt

The U.S. Treasury Department on Friday released new figuresrelated to the 2023 budget that showed a troubling drop in the nation’s tax revenue compared to GDP—a measure which fell to 16.5% despite a growing economy—and an annual deficit increase that essentially doubled from the previous year.

“After record U.S. government spending in 2020 and 2021” due to programs related to the economic fallout from the Covid-19 crisis, the Washington Post reports, “the deficit dropped from close to $3 trillion to close to $1 trillion in 2022. But rather than continue to fall to its pre-pandemic levels, the deficit unexpectedly jumped this year to roughly $2 trillion.”

While much of the reporting on the Treasury figures painted a picture of various and overlapping dynamics to explain the surge in the deficit—including higher payments on debt due to interest rates, tax filing waivers related to extreme weather events, the impact of a student loan forgiveness program that was later rescinded, or a dip in capital gains receipts—progressive tax experts say none of those complexities should act to shield what’s at the heart of a budget that brings in less than it spends: tax giveaways to the rich.

That's been the Republicans goal my entire life. Bankrupt the country so there's no money left to spend on "entitlements" or "wasteful" departments like education, revenue, and the environment. 🤷‍♂️

God's candidate for mayor? Critics say new Gabrielle Hanson video shows rise of Christian nationalism

New video shows how the increasingly bizarre campaign for mayor in Franklin is being viewed by some as a spiritual war.

Video from a tent revival in Franklin late last week shows how Gabrielle Hanson appears to believe God is on her side.

But critics say that video should be a wake-up call about the dangers of those who are now trying to get political control to force their faith on others.

The video posted on Facebook by evangelist Amy Elizabeth Taylor shows a charismatic tent revival in the heart of Franklin.

The event — called "Revival Glory" — was held in the same city park as this year's Pride Festival.

A poster declared, "We are taking back the land by displacing demonic forces and ushering in His Glory."

The event included some of the same people who have tried to take over Franklin's historic town square every Saturday night, blasting out Christian music and claiming that time and space as their own.

On the night the video was recorded, the Franklin alderman and candidate for mayor was the guest of honor.

Hanson, of course, is the elected official who led the charge to block the Pride Festival and defended the worship group against complaints about the disruption to the quiet of Franklin's downtown.

My oldest nephew asked years ago if Trump had killed anyone. My SIL and I explained that he probably hasn't killed anyone personally. Much like a mob boss tho his actions and those around him have certainly led to people's deaths. In that video above the Australian guy pretty much now confirms that for me. 🤷‍♂️
