That thread is really depressing. The world is ****ed. No getting around it.

The West has become very socially liberal over the past two decades and the conservative response has been to turn towards authoritarianism because their ideas and views truly suck.

Putin’s rule over Russia is really the American conservative establishments dream. An oligarchy propped up by support from those who would surrender their economic freedom in return for social conservativism.

It's so damn incredible to me that the GOP is so complicit in all this. The founding fathers never considered that. How can you check against that? I get people like Rorbacher  and the typical lunatics but the entire GOP complicit aside from a handful that are on their way out anyway?  A god damn tax cut? What good is it when the US is giving up their standing in the world? It boggles my mind. I've never been so angry, I have a 4 year old and an 20 month old what is the world we're leaving them?

It’s not just a tax cut.

A lot of these people were accepting Russian help to varying degrees.

Russian and foreign country help.

They been using shady stuff like Cambridge Analytica as well.

Remember back before the election, when it was revealed that (despite his loud, flamboyant, denials) Trump's campaign had been in contact with the Russian Ambassador?

Remember the parade of Republicans who came out to defend him by announcing that hey, they had met with the Russian Ambassador, too.  He was a guest at the GOP convention?

One of the many things that should have been warning signs.  (And not just for Trump, but for the entire GOP.)

But no.  Apparently, all it takes for virtually all GOP supporters to move their opinion about Russia from "The Evil Empire" and "Tear down this wall", to "Please hack Hillary's emails some more!", was for the KGB to openly help the Republican Party win an election.

Remember when Republicans used to be outraged that "The Liberal Media" displayed election results showing GOP wins using the color red, because "that's the color of them damned communists!"?

Exactly

The GOP is complicit

And like the fascists they are, they want zero accountability (Trump and Cruz wing) or they are leaving early to hope it’s forgotten (Daryl Issa wing).

The world now has the technology for wingnuts to gain levels of attention they could only dream of in times past. as a result, it looks more )*^)*^ed than it is.

How is a border patrol agent out here conducting interviews? Massive overreach.

Quote

The agent, Jeffrey A. Rambo, contacted journalist Ali Watkins last June as the Trump administration was ramping up its investigations of unauthorized leaks to reporters, and he identified himself as a government agent.

Rambo met with Watkins at a restaurant in Washington after initially contacting her by email. A reporter taking such a meeting with a potential source would not be unusual.

"Get out of Ukraine, you shouldn't be there, just c'mon" will be the "tear down this wall" for a generation of Republicans.

Hey, we are talking about a President who's such a great negotiator that it only took him a few hours of face to face meetings to end the threat of NK nukes.

He's also so tough and hard to manipulate that it only took him a few hours of face to face meetings to literally start repeating North Korean propaganda language about our joint field training exercises with South Korea. "Provocative war games" is pretty much word for word what North Korea calls them.
