At least nine people were injured at Ohio State University in an attack that was carried out by two assailants at the Columbus campus on Monday, according to local officials and media.

Local media reported that the injured were both shot and stabbed.

The nine victims were taken to local hospitals, a spokeswoman with the Columbus Fire Department said. One person was in critical condition, and the others were stable. The nature of their injuries was not immediately known.

A suspected attacker was shot, local television station WBNS reported, citing law enforcement sources. WBNS said four of the injured suffered gunshot wounds.

WBNS, citing law enforcement, reported the attack began with a person armed with a gun and another individual with a knife got out of a sport utility vehicle at a university engineering building. At least some victims were stabbed, the station reported.

An Ohio State University student plowed into a campus crowd with a car, then jumped out and started stabbing people with a butcher knife before being shot dead by police Monday morning, officials said.

Nine people were taken to hospitals after the ambush, and one was in critical condition. The incident was initially reported as an "active shooter" situation, but the suspect did not shoot anyone.

"This car just swerved and ran into a whole group of people," said Nicole Kreinbrink, who was walking down the street when she saw the car hit people who had evacuated an academic building during a fire alarm.

From the article Lessburg posted.

No active shooter.

I wonder if the attacker pulled the fire alarm to create a crowd and then rammed his car into the crowd or is someone else pulled the fire alarm.

(this is not related to this incident but .... people need to stop standing on the edge of the curb on busy streets. Your body and life is literally 2-3 feet away from solid speeding metal .. dont leave your life up to some distracted driver. One bad lane change and a car could be coming right at you. There is no magical forcefield that will stop a car from jumping that curb and killing you. Accidents happen all the time, limit your exposure to them, safety is no accident. Use your turn signal, anticipate stopped traffic ahead, be careful when changing lanes into an open space bc another driver will also be looking to occupy that open space, etc ... just slow down.)

Not to get political in here, but this incident seems to support the argument that guns contribute significantly to these mass murder events. To me it's obvious, but some try to use the "if someone really wanted to kill people, they could do it with a car or knife or anything" logic to support guns.

Here was someone with only a car and a knife and, at worst, he'll have taken one life (there's someone in critical condition). If this idiot had a gun, I can't imagine the casualties being so low. I'm not trying to minimize the horror of today by any stretch. To those victims and anyone who witnessed this attack, I'm sure it was terrible. But, at the end of the day, there's a good chance that it ended with no innocent lives taken and just one asshole who was killed in the process.

I was going to bump the gun control debate head when I got home and bring this up.  Though we can point to active shooters where very few were killed and Paris saw what a person CAN do with a vehicle.  It's worth a discussion if people can avoid cherry picking examples.
