Not surprised that they think they're part of a larger network.

Heck, I assume that most of these wing nuts actually believe that most Americans (at least, the "real Americans") agree with them.  (But are just too scared to do the patriotic work that they're doing.)

Now, whether they actually are part of a larger network?  I'd really like to know.  But my opinion of the intelligence and grasp of reality exhibited by these types makes me suspect that they really suck at the ability to conspire undetected.

Sovereign citizen with 'monkey blood' says Sterlington PD had no authority to arrest him

A man who claimed to be a sovereign citizen said Sterlington police had no authority to arrest him after a disturbance outside two businesses.

On Sunday around noon, officers were called to an address near the intersection of U.S. 165 and Louisiana 2. A white male was reportedly taking photos of vehicles in the parking lot. The suspect was reportedly wandering aimlessly near the businesses, according to the arrest report.

At the scene, Ernie Clay Hargrove, 21, of Monroe, approached the officer and said he was looking for his cars, which were worth more than $250,000. He said his name was Ernie Clay and he was a sovereign citizen.

Sovereign citizens generally believe that they, not any governmental or judicial representative, get to decided which laws they follow. They also don't believe in paying taxes.

The officer noted that the Hargrove's eyes were fully dilated and his speech was incoherent in delivery and content.

While patting down Hargrove, the officer found an unknown liquid in a pill bottle in the left front pocket and an unknown powder substance in the right front pocket. The officer did not have a field test to check either item.

The man claimed it was monkey blood and Comet cleaning powder.

Partin claims sovereign citizen status in Benton court

Alanna Partin, the Sweet Home woman arrested in downtown Corvallis in November after she allegedly reached for a handgun during a traffic stop, appears to be mounting a sovereign citizen defense, a legal tactic that denies the validity of the U.S. judicial system.

Partin, 38, was in Benton County Circuit Court on Thursday morning for a status check in her case. She is charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, interfering with a peace officer and failure to carry or present a driver’s license. The firearms charge carries a potential five-year sentence.

As Judge Locke Williams briskly worked through a number of scheduling matters with prosecutors and defense attorneys in other cases, Partin stood at the back of the courtroom, leaning against the wall with her arms crossed.

When her name was called, she approached the low wooden bar that separates the gallery from the attorneys’ tables and the judge’s bench but refused to cross it. Instead, she demanded that Williams produce documents establishing his authority.

“I reserve all rights,” Partin said.

“I need to make sure this court is in order before I cross the bar.”

After sparring over various legal issues with the judge, Partin announced “We’re done here” and turned to leave the courtroom, but Williams stopped her in her tracks.

“If you walk out of that door, you will be held in contempt of court,” he warned her. “You will be held in jail until trial.”

With a security officer and a sheriff’s deputy waiting to take her into custody, Partin turned around and resumed her running argument with the judge. At one point she called Williams “a vessel of commerce” and demanded that the proceedings be conducted in accordance with the Uniform Commercial Code, which governs business transactions.

That approach is one of the hallmarks of the so-called sovereign citizen movement, a loosely organized network of people who insist they are not subject to most U.S. laws. That claim is based in part on the notion that the 14th Amendment to the Constitution created an inferior form of citizenship that subjected most Americans to commercial statutes rather than Constitutional law.

Williams was having none of it.

“This court does not recognize the legal gibberish you are putting forward,” the judge told Partin.

“My advice to you would be to be represented by an attorney. I believe it would be a grievous error for you to try to go forward with these legal theories that have no basis in law.”

‘Free citizen’ with apparent pig-shaped explosive charged in standoff in Minnesota

ST. PAUL — A “free citizen” who felt he didn’t need to obey traffic laws threatened police, who tried tearing the back door off his RV with a robot to retrieve what appeared to be a pig-shaped explosive, according to a criminal complaint filed Friday.

The confrontation, which resulted in a lengthy standoff Wednesday evening, began after Cub Foods called police to try to get the man out of the grocery store’s parking lot. In the end, police shut down a portion of Maplewood Mall’s ring road for more than four hours after the man fled to a nearby strip mall.

Dennis Duane Vann, 42, of Cambridge, Minn., was charged Friday in Ramsey County District Court with making threats of violence with reckless disregard for risk, and fleeing police, both felonies.

More charges could come. The complaint notes police recovered “a device from the RV that was shaped like a pig and had ‘(expletive) the police’ written on it. The pig held an energetic powder and appears to be an explosive device.”

I love how black people who subscribe to the "Moorish National" or "Black Hebrew Israelite" movements don't seem to realize that they're lifting basically everything they believe and say from the Sovereign Citizen movement...a movement that has its roots directly in White Supremacist/White Nationalist movements. Fail.

Bellevue driver learns the hard way - don't use homemade license plates

BELLEVUE, Wash. - A Bellevue driver found out the hard way that you can't just put your own homemade license plates on your car and call it good.

Police say the driver was pulled over early Saturday in the 15000 block of SE 38th Street after an officer observed "sovereign citizen" license plates on the vehicle. Members of the "sovereign citizen" movement do not recognize U.S. currency and believe they are "free of any legal restraints," according to Wikipedia.

The plates on the driver's vehicle said: "PRIVATE ... NO DRIVER LICENSE OR INSURANCE REQUIRED ... NOT FOR COMMERCE USE - PRIVATE MODE OF TRAVEL."

2d6636d1-3317-40f9-aa56-58f72166f11c-lar

When the officer asked for the driver's identification, registration and insurance, the driver refused to provide it, according to the police report.

The officer then discovered that the vehicle was unregistered, with the title failing to have been transferred. When the officer asked the driver several times to exit the vehicle, he refused.

And that's when the driver learned that, actually, he was not above the law after all. He was arrested and booked for investigation of traffic offenses and obstructing an officer.

The vehicle was impounded.

Winston Shrout, One of America's Most High-Profile 'Sovereign Citizens,' is a Fugitive

Winston Shrout spent years defying the federal government as one of the country’s most high-profile sovereign citizens and tax dodgers.

His latest act has made him a fugitive for the last six weeks.

Shrout, a sovereign citizen who doesn’t recognize the authority of the U.S. government, didn’t show up on March 4 when he was due to report to a federal prison in Sheridan, Ore. A federal judge issued a warrant for the 70-year-old anti-government activist’s arrest. As of April 22, Shrout, with a Hillsboro, Ore., address, had not been arrested and the Bureau of Prisons, on its website, listed him as not in custody.

Shrout faces 10 years in prison after being convicted of issuing fake financial documents to banks and the U.S Treasury. He also didn’t file tax returns from 2009 to 2014. Shrout’s lawyers, through motions, delayed his prison report date at least three times before the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals ordered him in to begin serving prison time.

Sykesville man charged with destruction of property at restaurant, resisting arrest

A Sykesville man has been charged with malicious destruction of property and resisting arrest after allegedly cracking a glass door at Salerno’s Restaurant on Monday.

Andrew Francis Haischer, 36, of the 5600 block of Wallace Court in Sykesville, is charged with three counts of malicious destruction of property, and one count each of creating a public disturbance while intoxicated, intoxicated endangerment, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, according to electronic court records.

According to charging documents, at about 1:12 a.m. Monday, a Maryland State Police trooper saw a white Chevy Tahoe in the front yard of a home on the 1000 block of Johnsonville Road in Sykesville, leave the yard and drive northbound on the wrong side of the road before striking a mailbox.

After the truck re-entered the road and continued north, police observed the truck cross the double-yellow lines and pulled the vehicle over, according to charging documents.

Once pulled over, the driver, later identified as Haischer, left the vehicle and ignored police orders to return, allegedly telling police he was a “sovereign citizen” who did not keep documents or tags on his truck and that he would not cooperate because he did not want to get shot, according to charging documents.

Hmmm...where to post this?  Florida man thread?  Gun thread?  Sov Citizen thread?

No actual gun, so here I guess:

'Sovereign citizen', 33, 'threatened to bring a gun to Florida Walmart if he found the toy car he was buying was broken just days after the mass shooting at an El Paso store

A Florida man has been jailed after police say he threatened to return to a Walmart store with a gun if the remote control car he was buying did not work.

Clearwater police spokesman Rob Shaw says police arrested 33-year-old Anthony Reed on Monday evening on a felony charge of making a false report about using a firearm in a violent manner.

According to an arrest report, Reed made the threat on Friday, just days after 22 people were killed in a shooting rampage at an El Paso, Texas, Walmart.

The report cited by Tampa Bay Times says Reed may be a 'sovereign citizen' - a term that refers to anti-government extremists who consider themselves not subject to any laws.
