ES Game Day Coverage & Game Day Thread: Redskins at Cardnials

Buncha questions to get started with today.

Who's the Cardnials' starting QB going to be today?

Well, Logan Thomas took all the first string snaps this week, but now early morning reports said Palmer was going to start, but Stanton was cleared from his concussion. The easy answer is who knows. Palmer is actually a game time descision based on warm ups.

Hey remember when the Cards used to be in the NFC East & were a guarunteed win twice a year? :)

Yeah. I miss those days.

Will Jordan Reed play today & if so, will he make an impact?

Redskins game plan has a good portion dedicated to Reed, so if he goes, he should make an impact. However, with our luck, he'll prolly reinjure himself. Which brings up the running joke Murf & I had on the way here this morning. Who gets injured first, Reed or Palmer? :P

Can the Defense finally do something right & help win this game without DHall & a banged up Ryan Look, there's a LOT wrong with this D, There's Haslett's failure to adjust at the half, there's injuries, there's young guys playing that haven't grown into the players they could possibly become.  Easy answer is there's no telling.

Special Teams......

Yeah, lets NOT go there unless you have a link where I can go ahead & buy a Tress Way Pro Bowl jersey. All I'm waiting to see out of this unit is the Swinging Gate play. Hashtag HORRIBLE. :)

Now with that out of the way, I have to say this. Dan Snyder when you build you new stadium, PLEASE rip a few pages out of the Cards book. They've got an imaculate set up here. It's landscaped beautifully. The tailgating area is the best I've seen League wide. There's actual grass that you set up on, not in a parking space. THere's NO traffic driving through your tailgate. There's a concert stage. With a band. AND a full lighting rig.And there's a section where you can get former player autograpghs. Just walking through, it was a lot of fun. And then we passed this really big dude. Murph goes "Hey he had Murphy on the back of his Redskins tshirt" "I bet that's Trent's dad" I tell him. We go back. Long story short, It's Trent's dad, Murf gushes. Pops shows off two of Trent's rings he's wearing.

• Tight end Niles Paul adding to his 22 receptions and 319 receiving yards this season, already single-season career highs.

• Wide receiver Andre Roberts recording a receiving touchdown in three consecutive games for the first time in his career.

• Roberts becoming the first member of the Redskins with a receiving touchdown in three consecutive games since Pierre Garçon in Weeks 11- 13 of the 2012 season.

First Quarter

Opening drive, the Redskins looked like the Redskins. Merriweather, doing as he's been instructed, going for the wrap up knee tackle, goes down & is being evaluated for a concussion. The Defense made enough stops to the Cards to punt it early. Cousins still lokked like Cousins on the Skins opening drive. Inconsistant & lacking chemistry with DJax which stalled the drive & brought in (future Pro Bowler) Tress Way to punt.  Cards stall out again at the 50 & punt.  Palmer looks bad as he's throwing short & missing open guys way downfield. Skins get buried inside their 20. Morris drops a pass, rushes for 1 & then Cousins throws incomplete to Reed. Way back in to punt. 42 yard punt, Cards return for 14. Floyd bobbles & drops a pass from Palmer. Cards rush for 2, & then nailed for a false start. Palmer to Floyd for a first down. Nace catch by Floyd. Cards rip off 11 on the left side, then Palmer to Floyd for the TD.  Five plays, 41 yards in 2:13 for the Cards. Someone please remind Kirk that Rex beat the Cards last time we played them. ;) Aaaaand Rex Lite throws into triple coverage. Dude shoulda never changed his jersey number to 8.

Cousins: 3-7 for 28 yards 54.5 QBR

Palmer: 8-10 for 59 yards, 1 TD 124.6 QBR

Second Quarter

Merriweather has returned. Kirk gets sacked then completes a short pass over the middle to DJax who not only takes it 64 yards to the house, but walks it in from the 15. Tied game 7-7. Cards first possion & Merriweather stops them in the backfield. Palmer held to another 3 & out. Cards challenge (have the Skins even won a challenge this season?) the First Down reception. Chaon gang is out to measure...Cards win the challenge as it's announced that Amerson is now OUT. Cousins to Paul for a gain of 7. Morris runs for 2. Djax with a catch n run for 42 yards. Only his bumping into Chester stopped him from scoring. Skin in the Red Zone, Cousin incomplete to Paul. Morris picks up a hard 5 yards. Cousins with ****ty mechanics, throwing off his feet, is incomplete to Reed. Skins take the easy 3 here & it's Redslins 10 Cards 7. Palmer has a nice shot fired off to Fitz, who gets DRILLED, but maintains possion. Only to have it called back for holding. Cards then get called for Delay of Game for a loss of 5. This is starting to look like mirrored offenses. Cards punt, Roberts fair catches it & Skins get called for holding. Skins start this drive at their 7 yard line. I'm thinking ROCKET SCREEN gets called here. :P  Morris gets about 2 hard yards off to the left. Skins from the 9. Fake handoff to Morris to the right, screen to Garcon to the left for 9 yards & a first down. Morris up the middle to cross the 20 & AZ gets smacked with a 5 yard penalty. Kirk to Garcon again for 2. Kirk stares down Roberts, D tips the ball. Incomplete, Way to punt. 58 yard punt, Palmer back to throwing for 2 yard gains, but he's getting better as he plays. Kirk on the otherhand is still Kirk - Forcing throws & staring down his WRs.

Two Minute Warning

Palmer chucks it deep, gets picked off. Skins called with Pass Interferance. 57 yard pickup for the Cards. Palmer throws incomplete.Slot WR running free, missed by Palmer who throws incomplete. Skins burn their first time out. Palmer to Fitz for 11.Palmer to Brown for 12. Previous play is now being reviewed....Ruled a catch. Palmer incomplete again. And there's the TD to Fitz. Nice spin n fight movesw from Fitz to get into the end zone. Kick's good. Cards up 14-10. Fitz with 88 Carreer TDS just moved into 12th place all time. Helu in but doesn't get the first down. At least not on his first possetion. He picks up 33 on his second, though. Cousins to Morris for 14. 7 seconds left....Skins for the FG..AZ tries to ice Kai....Kick is good from 43 with 2 seconds on the clock. 1 point game with the Skins getting the opening kickoff after the half.

Third Quarter

Skins get the opening kickoff & do nothing with it. Cards start driving, get nailed for a false start. Still driving from the Skins 30. Palmer to Ellington over the middle. Gain of 9. Palmer stares down Brown but completes it for a first down. at the 15. Cards false start again & back up 5 yards. Palmer rushed out of the pocket & throws it away. Cards hand it off up the middle for 3. Palmer forced out of the pocket again, throws it away & AZ is called for holding, Skins decline. Cards to kick it for 3.  It's good, Skins down 17-10

Palmer's longest compled pass in the first halft was for 24 yards. Interesting since the Cards like to chunk their offessive plays. Cards have been going dink n dunk all game, guessing that's all Palmer's shoulder will allow him to do.

Skins run Morris to the left for 2. Cousins to Reed for 4. Cousins to Reed & it's batted down before he can get hands on it. Punt takes a bounce & is scooped up for a 9 yard return. Cards continue to dink n dunk it.  End of the 3rd Skins still down 17-10

Fourth Quarter

Cards continue to dink n dunk to another FG. Skins now down 20-13. Cousins complete to Roberts, who then fumbles. AZ ball. Replay shows Roberts had his knee down, play is under review....BULL****. Play stands as called AZ ball. Palmer nearly gets picked off by Rak who can't hold onto it. CArds take the turnover & convert it into 3.  Skins down 23-13

Mike Jones of the WP just tried to go at Tony Wylie & was held back by JReid. Something about them (the WP guys) getting injury updates off of Redskins.com or the team twitter before they're announced in the press box ten seconds later.  I think that was the most entertaining bit of today's game. :D

Oh & Rex Jr threw another pick. Palmer throws it for 40 yards-his longest so far today-& it's dropped in the end zone. Cousins stares down DJax & throws a pick. That's the 3rd Skins turnover this game. The Cards have had zero. Skins score a TD right before the 2 minute warning. Skins down 23-20   Cards recover the onside kick with 2:16 to go.

Cousins with ANOTHER pick that's nearly returned for a TD. 18 seconds to go & the CArds hit the FG for 3. Cards up 30-20.

Final Thoughts

This offense is horrible. They can't pass deep. They can barely run. And when they do run, Morris isn't hitting the small holes hard for fear of fumbling. Even on 10 yard throws, Cousins still satres down his WRs.

The good news: Jordan Reed managed to stay healthy this game. He's know played 5 quarters out of  24 this season. Getting RG3 back can help them get a few wins, but it may be to late to have enough to run the table if you're still thinking Playoff Run.

You'd think they'd improve from being 3-13 last year, but right now getting that second win is Mission Impossible.

I have no reason for it, but I think we are going to win today.

Could still be last night's whiskey talking.

That dude has to realize that the game is in Arizona, right?

The bigger question is... do the Cardinals?

Any word on Jordan Reed?

The over under on his next injury is 5 plays.

You want some action?

.....

A ring rusty (and frankly poor the last few years) Carson Palmer. A slew of other injuries.

This isn't only a MUST win game. This is a game they all want locking up for if they lose.

Seriously.

Hail.
