dreamshatterer
Competition... against whom? Is Rocca kicking field goals now? He didn't clarify. Fox 5 news is saying that Gano is still around and that this just competition. Somebody has the wrong info about Gano. Either way, Cundiff is here. Darth Tater
I usually don't get into the whole, this guy should be kept, that guy should be kept...etc I feel like Mike Shannahan has the slight edge on me in football knowledge, although it is close. I was surprised by the Cundiff signing and now even more surprised by the release of Gano. I honestly don't get it. I guess Gano wasn't showing much in practice either, but wow. I think we made a big mistake here. I think Bang would say that Danny Smith had finished ruining Gano.

TheGoodBits
I'd love to see some stats on our kickoff coverage team. To see how big the difference was between the 20 and wherever our opponents avg start position was. Looked it up... not as great of a move if this was dictated by kickoffs. http://www.redskins.com/team/coaches/Danny-Smith/1d9d0b93-b305-4d66-bbc0-44f2fbc467e7 "In 2011, Smith’s special teams unit ranked first in the NFC in kick return average allowed (20.8 yards) for the second consecutive season. Additionally, the unit ranked fifth in the NFC in opponents’ average starting position (21.8-yard line on kickoffs)." We gained 1.8 yards of field position twice as much as we did last year... stbabyy
Makes perfect sense to me. Ganooooooo gave me a heart attack everytime he came on the field. He had no confidence. He was less than 50%b between 30-39 yds. Just terrible You do realize that most of those were blocks and not on Gano right?

Darkstarr
It's a kicker and we're not a playoff team. Does it really matter? The board is going to crash over Gano? Wow, just wait until nex week when Cooley is released. Thank U lou, Gano has done nothing to suggest greatestness. He is just a run of the mill kicker. Dime a dozen. Who cares. garyclarkforhall
Cundiff is an upgrade. Gano has a stronger leg but he isn't and wasn't consistent. Every time he kicked you didn't know what would happen. This isn't about the blocked Field Goals either, it's about having a good veteran that is a upgrade period. The only reason the Raven's cut him was to save money. The rookie kicker they have now from University of Texas is a monster and it's nothing but cost savings on the Raven's part. They need to get money put a side for Flacco!! Really, an upgrade? His kicking percentage last year was exactly the same (76%), of those missed by Gano five were blocks not misses, and Gano has a better leg and is younger... What's the improvement again? Wow, just wait until nex week when Cooley is released. exactly.. why is everybody making such a big deal about this? last year we're all ready to run gano out of dc and now all of a sudden hes our star kicker? what has gano done that is worthy of keeping him? and btw, rackers is horrible too thats why he got cut
Coker
Question - if they brought in Cundiff, that would leave them at 76 on the roster. Wouldn't they have to cut someone?

CrypticVillain
Have you all considered that maybe Gano has looked like **** in practice? Don't ya think the coaches might know more than us?I was a Gano fan. Definitely was rooting for the guy. It's been my dream for us to develop a young kicker who then is on the team for the next 15 years. But if Gano ain't getting it done, he ain't getting it done. I hear yah, but dang. If we weren't keeping Gano, I would have rather had Rackers than Cundiff.
KingGibbs
Not gonna sugarcoat this. Dumb ****ing move. You don't pick up a kicker that ended his teams playoff run by missing a 32 yd chipshot. 32 ****ing yards! We will regret this.
I_Bleed_B&G
You do realize that most of those were blocks and not on Gano right? Yes I do realize that some were blocked but I'm not putting all of them on the line. Gano's trajectory was also a problem
jflow78
With this many Extremeskins poster against the move, it might be the best move possible. I have a feeling it has to do with trajectory. I know that sounds ridiculous, but just stay with me for a second. If over 50% of Cundiff's kickoffs end in touchbacks (27% of Gano's), I'd guess that a large part of that is because he kicks at a higher angle, allowing the ST guys to get down to the end zone closer to when the ball is caught (because I don't think any kicker kicks over 50% of their kickoffs through the back of the end zone). If that's the case, then it makes sense on FGs too, especially when we've had problems with blocked kicks. If he gets the ball vertical more quickly than Gano, then that means less of them are blocked. Some more comparisons, Gano's career FG% 73.8, Cundiff's 76.7. Cundiff has missed 1 XP in 201 attempts, Gano has missed 2 in 61. Cundiff had 44 touchbacks last year and 40 the year before that, Gano had 32 last year and 9 the year before. This is all, of course, total horse **** until someone clarifies it, and I'm just trying to make some sense of things because I was as baffled as everyone else. But, let's hope for the best. At least I won't be nervous EVERY time the kicker is on the field (XPs included).
