For people of modest means and significant health issues without access to employer coverage, the ACA was a very effective solution. In Manatee Co, there is ONE choice on the exchange, and for a family, the premiums run 1200 per month for the lowest option. And that has a 6k deductible. How is that effective? The theory used to justify it sounds great, but the real world results are disastrous, and spiraling towards complete failure. 1 minute ago, LadySkinsFan said: How about taking the profit out of healthcare? (without even mentioning the insurance companies who have driven prices through the roof and especially not doing anything to touch their profits)", then gee, what is there to do? Guess we're just gonna have to reduce the population that wants healthcare to those that reliably vote the Russi...err Republican ticket and find ways to cull the rest.
DogofWar1
The AHCA will pass the House today but fail to reach the President's desk. While I appreciate all the calls people are making to Congressmen, the GOP would not schedule a vote if they didn't have them. The undecideds are mostly for show to help at-risk GOP seats from getting more at-risk. The people getting the fewest angry calls will vote yes and it'll pass by 1 vote probably. Nice little play going on. Whether it ends in the end of the legislative filibuster I don't know, but I know that's where Trump is trying to steer it.

LadySkinsFan
With public option, at least the insurance companies will have to compete. Plus it takes healthcare out of the hands of employers. The ACA mandated that 80% of funds had to be spent on actual care. The new bill does away with that, more profits. When will you Republican apologists get that they don't care about people?

Key element is that companies pay their employees in benefit wages, which the employees can then choose to allocate between their own choice of a state regulated insurance company, 401ks, vision, dental, etc. Major medical is universally required (the mandate was the key feature of EVERY GOP Healthcare plan....until Obama accepted it). From Wikipedia: . It would transition away from employer-provided health insurance, to employer-subsidized insurance, having instead individuals choose their health care plan from state-approved private insurers. It sought to make the cost of health insurance more transparent to consumers, with the expectation being that this would increase market pressures to drive health insurance costs down. The proposal created a system that would be paid for by both public and private contributions. Mandates that employers provide salary and wages increases over a two-year period essentially equal to the amount paid previously for basic healthcare insurance premiums, as employers no longer have to provide basic healthcare coverage. Employers pay a new tax equal to between 3 percent and 26 percent of the national average premium for the minimum benefits package for each employee, depending on their firm size and amount of gross revenues per employee. Premiums can vary only to reflect geography and smoking status. Individuals can have more expensive (i.e., non-basic) coverage plans paid directly to insurers. Mooka
The Democratic closer just ripped the GOP a new one. Got a standing applause. Republican closer trying to match his passion. Not doing as good a job. Biggest problem, is that the Republicans have to sell that Obamacare is bad, but they can't sell that their plan is better. *Senate voting atm. Sorry to be confusing btw, the House will vote the actual bill. The Senate, which is discussing the bill went to a procedural vote. Was trying to say the senate floor debate was now over.
