It was pretty good and everyone had great things to say about the late Alan Rickman. I'll give it a B. I saw that "The Irishman" is playing at a local theater. 3 1/2 hours. Will I see it ? Hmmm. Fan since a Fetus Posted November 27, 2019 Share Posted November 27, 2019 I saw Ford v Ferrari. I think it is a great movie and one of the must see films of the year with the Joker. I laughed through the whole thing which I didn't expect. I think Christian Bale stole the show. His acting was superb. It was nice to see Jon Bernthal or however you say his name play something other than a murdering meathead. Although he plays the tough meathead quite well. It’s powerful, haunting, and tense with a never-ending feeling of unease. It’s one of the most visually interesting movies I’ve ever seen due to the way they film in black/white with the special attention given to the way shadows dance across faces or the way the shot is entirely black with faces or other items very deliberately the only source of light on screen. Another thing that makes it feel unique is the 1:19:1 aspect ratio. The visuals and sound combine to keep you on edge the entire time which really puts you into the shoes of Robert Pattinson who hasn’t quite adapted to the lighthouse caretaker life. The loud obnoxious horn that goes on throughout the day is beyond annoying and makes you wonder what it would be like to live with that for a month. It gets in your head. You feel it as the characters do. This feels like Shakespeare in a way. There are two characters in the entire movie (Pattinson and Willem Dafoe) and their performances are incredible. Worth the price of admissions alone and I think both should be Oscar nominated. Dafoe’s character has such a godly vibe as he shouts off monologue after another. You can’t take your eyes off these two as Pattinson rises to the meet Dafoe’s performance. These are two men stuck in a lighthouse as caretakers with no connection to the outside world. All they have are each other and it starts to gnaw at them. Directed by Robert Eggers who made The Witch and it feels similar in it’s raw storytelling and ambiguity. Don’t expect it to smack you over the head with anything though I did think the references to Greek gods were spelled out pretty clearly. There is a lot of mystery left for you to interpret though but that doesn’t stop it from being imo a must-see movie. its visually stunning and performances will stay with you long after the movie is over. 3 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

There are songs. Oh, so many songs. None of which meet the bar set by “Let it Go” but which my four year old daughter will nevertheless be singing in perpetuity. The sentient snowman has a heart wrenching death scene until you remember he is made of snow and ****ing magic and is therefore immortal. purbeast Posted November 28, 2019 Share Posted November 28, 2019 I watched all of The Irishman last night. I give it a big fat "meh". It was extremely way too long. Like it could have been an hour or 90 minutes shorter IMO. It was extremely slow and boring for most of the movie as well. If it did not have that cast, the movie wouldn't even be on anyone's radar. The age CGI stuff was kind of distracting too, especially the eyes and the mouths. It just looked off. It's hard to explain but if you see it you will know what I mean. Queen and Slim- A couple on their first date, end up being on the run; after male: Slim kills a racist cop. Definitely, relatable to alot of what has been going on in recent years between cops and minorities. I'll give the movie a solid B. I also saw 21 Bridges, which was okay. Lots of good twists and turns despite what appears to be a fairly straightforward story once you get a little ways in. Pretty funny too. Even though this movie is about Frank Sheeran with Jimmy Hoffa as the backdrop; this movie was about 90 minutes too long. Just the parts with Jimmy Hoffa was good enough to tell the story. DeNiro was great as well. Obviously, it could have been cut by at least 30 minutes. Scenes like Action Bronson as the coffin salesman clearly could have been left on the cutting room floor. justice98 Posted December 6, 2019 Share Posted December 6, 2019 Angel Has Fallen - I'd give it a C+, B- if I'm being generous. I got enough out of it to be entertained. Not as good as Olympus, which I really enjoyed and is the best of the franchise, but definitely better than London. The lengths the villain went to to accomplish his goal didnt seem to justify the desired outcome. There was so much mayhem, destruction, and bloodshed in the 3rd act, that even if they succeeded in eliminating the target, there was no way they were gonna get away with it. The movie wasn't as good as the last one, but I still enjoyed it. Also, the credits scene Spoiler sort of sets up a potential sequel. I'll give the movie a B-.
