DeaconTheVillain
Peter Jackson says The Hobbit will now be three movies. Originally Posted by Peter JacksonIt is only at the end of a shoot that you finally get the chance to sit down and have a look at the film you have made. Recently Fran, Phil and I did just this when we watched for the first time an early cut of the first movie - and a large chunk of the second. We were really pleased with the way the story was coming together, in particular, the strength of the characters and the cast who have brought them to life. All of which gave rise to a simple question: do we take this chance to tell more of the tale? And the answer from our perspective as the filmmakers, and as fans, was an unreserved ‘yes.' We know how much of the story of Bilbo Baggins, the Wizard Gandalf, the Dwarves of Erebor, the rise of the Necromancer, and the Battle of Dol Guldur will remain untold if we do not take this chance. The richness of the story of The Hobbit, as well as some of the related material in the appendices of The Lord of the Rings, allows us to tell the full story of the adventures of Bilbo Baggins and the part he played in the sometimes dangerous, but at all times exciting, history of Middle-earth. So, without further ado and on behalf of New Line Cinema, Warner Bros. Pictures, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Wingnut Films, and the entire cast and crew of “The Hobbit” films, I’d like to announce that two films will become three. It has been an unexpected journey indeed, and in the words of Professor Tolkien himself, "a tale that grew in the telling." Cheers, Peter J
Reic
I honestly have no idea how he will make them into 3 movies, unless they are all only an hour and a half long, then it makes sense.
big#44
The third film will be used to touch on the expansive backstory and bridge the stories between the hobbit with LOTR. Or so I hear.

elkabong82
Yeah I can see two movies, and I expected two because there's so much that happens in The Hobbit, but even with all the Bilbo-related stuff in the LOTR appendices and Gandalf's experiences away from Bilbo's group with the necromancer it's hard to picture it being 3 movies. But I love The Hobbit story more than LOTR, and I have full faith in Peter Jackson, plus the production videos have been great so far, so I will not complain and simply look forward to all 3 films. Yes. I wonder if the flim will start with the battle of 5 armies and then go on to the stuff that happened in between The Hobbit and LOTR. TBH, I don't know much about any of the stories that "bridge the gap" Either way, im excited as hell! I fully expect The Hobbit to blow away LOTR. Which is saying a helluva lot

bcl05
Meet the Feebles is one of the funniest, and most disturbing movies I've ever seen. I used to have a bootlegged VHS tape copy and I wore that thing out showing it to everyone I could at college. Fun times...

They were landmarks. :evilg: Kind of a strange long shot here, but if you like Django, look for R Crumbs music. It's awesome. I remember when I saw Heavy Metal and Fritz for the first time. Still amazing. I had a Fritz comic before I moved.

DeaconTheVillain
One month..... Hopefully I will see this in IMAX 3D the first night. I don't think i've ever been so excited for a film in my whole life ---------- Post added November-14th-2012 at 07:11 PM ---------- Still wonder what the third movie will be all about. I haven't heard anything much so if anyone hears that the third film is kind of a bridging the gap film for the 60 years between the Hobbit and LOTR, please post. I also wonder if the thrid flim will be the ending of the Hobbit and they chose to include Gandalf's battle with the necromancer in with the films, much like LOTR did switching back between merry and pippin, Frodo and Sam, and the rest. Fan since a Fetus
I haven't been to the theaters since the beginning of July. I had to cuss out a couple for taking pictures during the middle of the movie. I always have problems with people in the theater. Anyways, I will make sure I make it out for this one. I cannot wait. This was my favorite book and LOTR is still my favorite movie(s).

deejaydana
So it alludes to it in the OP, but the story IS going to be done over the course of 2 separate films? I'm pretty pumped up for this coming out (just don't want to brave the crowds that are sure to accompany this one).
ixcuincle
It's supposed to be 3 separate films You should watch in HFR, radio said it was an amazing way to watch the movie, almost realistic http://www.thehobbit.com/hfr3d/ Many theaters in DC area and your neck of the woods which offer this convenience ---------- Post added December-11th-2012 at 03:04 PM ---------- HFR getting mixed reviews Social media buzz leading up to this Friday's release of "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" is great. But for a new technology showing the movie at 48 frames per second... not so much.According to data collected by research firm Fizziology, an overwhelming 60% of the conversation on social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook about the 48 frames per second version of "The Hobbit" -- which will be shown at only about 450 theaters out of 4,000-plus in the U.S. and Canada -- is negative. Only 10% is positive, while 30% is neutral.
