$400, or $40 per game.

I know everything goes up in price, but remember $10 parking when FedEx opened in '97?

--- Yeah and we thought tha was outrageous as it was $6(?) at RFK (not sure of this, we took the metro A LOT the last few years at RFK as we NEVER tailgated at RFK)

I wouldn't be surprised to see them hike parking to $50.

.....DING...DING....DING....WE HAVE A WINNER......

My seats in upper 1/3 (what was the upper half prior to 2015) of 401 did not change.  My Redzone parking pass is $500 for the season...not sure about the other lots.

I think you can count on it.

Wow...guess I was wrong. My season tickets did not increase. I sit in the lower level. BUT...Danny did increase my parking $100. Unlike the GA ticket money that has to be shared with the visiting team, Danny gets to keep all the parking fees he collects. His mommy did not raise no dummy. Why increase tickets $100 and give 1/3 to the visiting team when he can keep all the parking money for himself.

What?  For what?  That's a 25% increase.  It's a piece of asphalt for heavens sake.

You have to think of it like you purchase anything else. Don't parse it. Consider the total cost (the item, tax and shipping) What is the total cost of going to the game? If you take the Metro, there is no increased cost of attending the game. And this way Danny gets to keep all the money for himself instead of sharing part of it with the visiting team. He does spend $$ on our team. He has never been shy of spending his team; just has never spent it well. Rather pay a $100 increase in parking than a $100 increase in the ticket price, personally.

Of course, I'd really prefer to pay a hell of a lot less for the total package than I have to. But it is what the market will bear. Still less than most of the large market teams....NE, Dallas, NYG, NYJ, etc.

It was $15 for on-site cash parking in 1997. Up from $10 at RFK in 1996. I believe the $15 parking lasted until 1999. But then in 2000... Danny moved cash parking across the Beltway and put a bus ride into the equation for a mere $25 per game.Next thing we knew, there was a waiting list for $25 parking onsite, which was limited to GA, STHs only. That lasted till the Zorn era.

Just a question for those who are more knowledgeable about the finances of the NFL: With the TV contracts becoming more and more lucrative for the league, how much of the TV money goes into funding players and coaches salaries, etc?  In other words, is there any reason for any team NOT to spend up to the salary cap?  Granted, all of the owners still want to maximize profits (see the Rams owner moving to LA), but was under the impression that stadium attendance and parking revenue were probably less important in funding a team's operations than they used to be. Is this correct?

The NFL is quite the socialist country club. TV revenues do get shared among the teams. Even some of the wealthy teams like NE, Dallas, Washington, NYG and NYJ share some of their revenue with the lower revenue teams like Cincinnati, Jacksonville, etc. I have read a number of articles in the past where many teams spend well less than the salary cap each year although the last CBA required teams to start paying closer to the salary cap either in the coming year or 2017...I forget the details. Others spend less on coaching, scouting, etc. Cincinnati is well know to not have a scouting department. They participate in a league wide scouting venture that is shared among all the teams. Articles have noted that owners like Danny and Jerry who market the hell out of their teams to raise revenue are annoyed with teams like the Bengals who will not even sell stadium naming rights let alone raise ticket prices or perform other typical marketing to raise revenue. They are not too happy about forking over millions of dollars to other owners who do little to raise their own revenue. By the way, this is in addition to the 1/3 of the game ticket revenue that each team shares with the visiting team.

As a more direct answer to your question, why spend money on players, coaches, etc. when you can line your own pocket? Some teams remain the dregs of the league as much for their unwillingness to improve as their inability to make sound business/football decisions (Danny has fallen into the latter category as well as Jerry Jones over the past 15-20 years)

Money from attendance, parking and concessions is not pocket change. My back of the envelope estimates suggests Danny make $75-100 million on tickets and parking alone each year. Add in concessions which all belongs to him and that's substantial revenue. And then there is product sales and advertising/marketing. Nothing to sneeze at.

NFL owners keep most of this close to the vest; but stuff gets out from time to time. If you want to research this, I can highly recommend googling reporting by Daniel Kaplan for the Sports Business Journal. I follow him on twitter and he seems to have the best current NFL financial information. Suffice to say these billionaire NFL owners make good money.....

Skins, like a good number of other teams, will have "variable pricing" starting this season, meaning the face value of the preseason games will be lower, but the face value of some regular season games will be more.  The entire STH package cost will be the same.

This feels like a slap in the face. The letter that came with the invoice talking about how they "listened" to us about preseason pricing..I can just see the marketing ween snickering as he wrote it. I would've rather had just a general price increase than this. This feels like an intentional directed insult. And then to jack up the parking yet again was just an extra little bit of a "screw you" that I could've lived without.

This is how the Patriots broke it down when they adopted variable pricing in 2014. Basically broken down into three tiers: two preseason games, four premier games, and four marquee games. IIRC, last season their opening game against the Steelers had its own "ultra-marquee" face-value price.

It's just the process of slowly changing the cost of tickets for regular season games vs preseason. In a future year, we'll probably see the preseason ticket stay the same and the regular season games go up. Did you really expect the Redskins or any of the other NFL teams going to variable pricing to REDUCE the preseason ticket cost. Don't take it so personally. Frankly, I'm happy there is no ticket increase after we won the division. In every other year that we did well, season ticket prices went up. Yeah, I know, parking went up; but it also went up in those other years, too.

If the Skins followed the model of the Patriots that I linked above, here's how it would shake out for this season:

The face value of the two preseason games will be half of what you paid this season

The face value of four of the regular season games ("premium games") will be the same as what you paid this season

The face value of the remaining four regular season games ("marquee games") will be about 25 pct more that what you paid this season.

In other words, if you had a $130 seat, that seat will be $65 for the two preseason games, $130 for four of the regular season games, and about $162.50 for the other games. The higher-priced games this season, if I were to guess, would be the three divisional games and the Steelers game. Although Green Bay and Carolina are also coming in, so it'll be interesting to see how the tiering shakes out.

As someone who often donates a preseason game this just lowers my tax donation value. Oh well.

So you're saying that if you sell a marquee game that people really want to see, you can make more money instead of trying to give away a pre-season game that no one wants to pay for. Is that correct? :P

It's not so much the pricing scheme that I have a problem with.  It's more that they put it forward as this was them "listening to the fans".  If they had just said, "Hey, we're moving to variable pricing, preseason is cheaper but regular season got a bump so your season ticket invoice didn't change" I would've been like, "Oh, OK".  But to say, "Hey we totally listened to the fans and now finally you don't have to pay as much for meaningless preseason games!  Oh and we also jacked up all the other ticket prices.  And raised parking..again.  It's just what you asked for!" just feels dirty and wrong.  I can just see them pouring over the feedback from all those surveys and season ticket holder questionnaires, seeing everyone's complaint about preseason pricing, doing this and checking off the box as a fan relations "win".  It's frustrating.  Yeah so...it's less what they did and more how they put it out there that feels insulting to me, if that makes sense.

...

"Hey Redskins fans!  We heard that YOU think beer prices are too high at FedEx Field!  That $9.50 is too much for a 12oz Bud Light!  Well we've listened and we've worked with our vendors to lower the pricing to $8.50 per bottle!  We've also added a $1.00 per bottle uncapping service fee!"  *checks off box on Fan Concerns to-do list*

Gald to see this finally come about....been wanting this for years as my college FB and BB tickets have variable pricing...now if they would just add the cost of the PG County Entertainment tax (about 10% of face) to the ticket like they used to.....hate explaining the PG county tax code whenever I sell tickets to friends.

Redzone parking went up $10. It's let's you in an hour early, and they are bigger spaces. Everyone knew those would go up this year. I bet they are $75 by 2018.

I think all parking went up $10 per game; my green parking went up $10 per game.

I got my letter from Bruce today. It is just a two tier system. Preseason one cost and the regular season a higher cost. Ticket prices to be announced later. They could cut the preseason tickets in half and add the lost revenue / 8 games. In my case, the regular season games would be about $14 more if they cut the two preseason games in half. Who knows what the price point will end up being. Won't be a big increase per game because they are taking money from two games and spreading it out over 8.
