Destino Posted December 27, 2020 Share Posted December 27, 2020 I think the biggest problem on this team is the coaching staff. They’re relying way too much on players just “playing” and their team movements are awful everywhere. Offense and defense. After that, it’s playing without a PF. Wizards are running a very low power group of forwards. Bertans, Deni, Bonga, and TBJ have some length but they’re all lightweight perimeter oriented player. They can’t handle switches against real bigs near the rim. Rui is the strongest forward we have and he hasn’t stepped on the court yet. And yes, Bryant has been fairly awful. This team has needed a defensive center forever. They might want to consider starting Robin and using Bryant as a spark off the bench. Neto is making a strong early case for him taking Ish’s minutes. Brooks hasn’t figured out how to use Bertans this season. He’s getting few minutes and very bad shots. They can’t get a bucket because they have no offense. They all stand around and hoping Beal, who immediately gets doubled, can save them. On defense they can’t rotate. Fire Brooks. Leonsis thought he could do the same thing with the Wizards that he did with the Caps. Fire a GM and promote from within. The difference is that the Caps didn't have a culture problem or a talent issue. The wizards play like they’re playing pick up basketball. Everyone just does their own thing, and it absolutely kills the second unit that doesn’t feature star power shot creators. What would it hurt to run some off ball screens? Will the players burn down the arena if asked to set screen for someone other than the dribbler?
