The (maybe) under-ratedness of Croatia went on full display late in injury time yesterday. After they scored to go ahead 2-1,England went on attack and were chasing them to get the ball back—Croatia did some sublime knocking around of the ball (I think Modric had been subbed out at this point). It's kinda awesome to think what they are capable of if both teams play openly.

Um, its a country in South America? With tremendous WC pedigree?

well you left out the part about losing loads of generational talent as well as possibly the greatest player the sport has ever known...

Argentina is crap and will be even worse off without Messi. Germany's Golden Generation just expired. Italy? Meh, we'll see, they didn't even qualify this year. Brazil is Brazil but they haven't won since 02, the worst has caught up to them.

There are a handful+ nations that produce waves and waves of talent consistently. There may not be another Messi but these countries don't generally just run out of footballing talent in the same way the U.S will never run out of basketball talent. What do you know about the young talent Germany has coming through the ranks?

The wife and I have bought our tickets to the Liverpool v. Dortmund game in Charlotte.  Anyone else here going?

Oh yeah. I’m part of the local Charlotte Reds fan club. We’ll be having a big to do at The Dog House starting at 10am. Will walk as a group to the stadium, signing and chanting, not sure when.

I’ll start my partying at The Rogue on East Blvd. as I’ve become friends with the owner, a huge Liverpool fan from Ireland. I’ll be wanting to catch the Open Championship final round.

Good news: Joyce in his midnight update tweeting we’re ‘closing in’ on Shaqiri.

Great but bloody bizarre news: Maddock reporting Fekir has reached agreement, whatever the F that means, for talks to reopen with Lyon and the only club he wants to join- https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/nabil-fekir-reaches-agreement-lyon-12896156.amp?1=&__twitter_impression=true

This is just the single maddest transfer saga I think I’ve ever known. And give we specialise on transfer saga’s, that’s saying something!

Hail.

Thanks for the updates mate!

Back to the east coast, where I know the water is close, after a wicked two day jaunt. Good trip, wish the circumstances were better.

I’m sitting in wait and see mode. I trust Klopp, so if he says yea, I’m behind it. Shaqiri is a no brainer for that sum, long as he is good with a backup role. Still unsure if Fekir has the pace and ambition to be a Kloppster, but he would add some playmaking talent. The Dybala rumors gave me a chubby, and Juve will be looking to bring some money in after their BIG spend, I reckon, doubt we’ll see that tho.

Still waiting for the Pulisic signing. Think he’d be a great complement, as he could sub anywhere the front three, and has been playing the 10 for the USMNT. Love to see that out of nowhere announcement, ala Fabinho.

oh yeah, and Karius has gotta be cooked, eh? Saw he let one through his legs the warm up for Chester. Confidence looks shot. Took him months to get the cobwebs out of his head after his first try as #1 when he had a couple mini blunders. I’d love Oblak, but don’t think they’d spend the cash. Keep an eye on the new young US keeper trying to make us forget Tim Howard. Name is Zack Steffen. He’s 23, and just keeps improving. Clean sheet his first national cap, and made a few worldies to hold France at 1-1 the friendly just before the WC.

This was a once in a century opportunity for them to make the WC final. You'll never see them in contention again, not with Brazil, Argentina, Germany,

France and Italy standing in their way.

I would never say never in football.

I remember a small local team nearby me that managed to get outsed from Champion's League after winning 1st round 4-0. Something that never happen...

They have a good generation of players coming up. All they did was win the U20 World Cup, which can correlate to success. "Once in a century" is fun hyperbole and not much more.

England hasn't had a good goalkeeper since....

Peter Shilton?

You're not going anywhere in World Cup without one.

Brazil is mostly a name all by itself nowadays. They're hardly a team, mostly a bunch of individuals, and Neymar just doesn't help them... I miss the Zico era...

Now I'm not sure Argentina will be worse without Messi. Just like Neymar, he's a problem to his team (and I'm not even talking about his misdemanor in the locker room where he rules everything even who's playing and who's not). I wouldn't be surprise to see this ends up in addition by substraction kind of stuff.

Just like Jacquet getting rid of Ginola and Cantona months prior to the 1998 World Cup, because, no matter how talented they were, they were a problem to the locker room.

But that's another era, nowadays, players are more important than their countries.

So Degsy Lovren is the first player since Paolo Maldini in 1994 to play in the European and World Cup Final in the same season.

Paolo Maldini. Dejan Lovren. Mind blowing.

BTW, has he let Kane out if his back pocket yet?

Hail.

Varane also no? Not sure he did played in the finals, but since he plays in Madrid, I would believe he may have. Thought he spend much time riding the bench this year.

They can take Neymar with them as well.

Damn, I'd love for the Qatari to sell Neymar to the Real Madrid for 400M€ then ask UEFA what the **** they are doing with their financial fair-play.

Shaqiri fee agreed. £13.75 M. Medical tomorrow.

Absolute no-brainier at that price. Interesting to note the managers been following him since he was at Bayern and coveted by Dortmund.

More nice, swift business from Edwards.

Dead happy to add him into the mix. Almost certain starter the first 4 games before the International break with others later back messing with their pre-season.

Great opportunity for him to lay down an early marker.

Keep them coming Reds!

Hail.

Two more things England could benefit from.

1. Young English players are actually being bought and loaned by Bundesliga clubs. This was until now absolutely unheard up until now but it allows these kids in youth systems that let's face it are much more modern than whatever they're doing in England.

2. Pick 10 PL clubs you think will finish 10-20 and look at their rosters. They're not only buying much better players than most of these clubs have ever had, but the money is also going to salaries for some good foreign managers, so the competition in the PL is very much one the rise, and also (hopefully) going through a desperately needed modernization.

Used to be known as the Alpine Messi. These days we can go with the Alpine Reccoba or the Alpine Ben Arfa.

Germany obv didn’t have a great WC but contrary to what people feel they generated a lot of shots and could’ve gone through just as easily. Unlike Argentina they weren’t fundamentally different than 4 years ago.

their education system nationally and the clubs is sound.

Jorge Valdano pointed out that Argies May be hurting in the future because Street soccer is dying in Argentina according to him and their Fédération doesn’t have the money like Spain or Germany to build an education system.

The beauty of transfer season!

At this point it feels as though some twitter folks are just making crap up to muddy the waters! So far in all of this Hazard craziness I’ve seen no less than 6 other players rumored to be in two seperate triangle deals, with everything from $80 million dollar contract upto a $220,000,000 price on Hazard with Real, Barça, PSG, and I think Juventus involved.

Just wake me when uniformas actually change hands.

If/when Harry Maguire moves to a top 6 club, supporters of the other 5 will jump up and down screaming about every single bad touch and mistake he makes, and completely ignore anything good he does. How do you not love English football fans?!

Wow, this could get interesting. Conte out, rumors of Willian, Hazard, and Kante moving?

Chelsea playing this season to avoid relegation?

Conte has always been out so that's not really news.  Willian is most likely to leave.

Hazard and Kante not for sale according to the most relevant twitter heads on Chelsea side.  With a new manager in Sarri incoming I am sure he has been given reassurance that the two most important players on the team are staying. Especially considering both of them have multiple years on their contracts left.

Get in!

The more I’ve thought about this and looked at him more closely the past month or so since the links hotted up, the more I think on the sly he can be every bit as effective as Fekir. Perfect player for Klopp to do what he does and bring out the best of him consistently. Knowing the manager wanted him since he signed for Munich way back when totally allays any attitude problems to my mind.

To add them both as seems likely will be fantastic.

Hail.

Looks like Real Madrid just squashed any Neymar/PSG rumors. So at least that question is answered.

OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT | 13/07/2018

In the face of the constant reports linking PSG's Neymar Jr. to our club, Real Madrid C. F. wish to clarify that the club has no intention of making any offer for the player.

The two clubs enjoy an excellent relationship and, as such, if Real Madrid were at any stage to consider securing the services of a PSG player, they would approach the club in the first instance.
