WHY DON'T YOU CARE ABOUT EB'S PHONE! The conversation was one I'd have been laughing and enjoying, if not for a little too much screaming. I enjoy certain radio personalities getting angry, but it can get annoying at a certain point. Minus the screaming it might have been passable. But it wasn't comic to me. CD's! well, I work various hours, many of which there are no radio shows on so I find myself doing this as well. But when possible I try to at least listen to MP3s. Sports talk radio used to get my blood pressure up in traffic. I'm here in Charlotte, so I get a lot of Panthers stuff. I like singing and drumming to the music in traffic. I like everything else they do, but when it comes to the Redskins, they're pointless to get any info from or to put any stock into anything they're saying. They love to be optomistic about the rest of the area teams, but when it comes to the Skins, their schtick is to be as pessimistic as possible. I don't care for them in general, but I like some of the interviews. I like the coverage of the caps, sometimes the nats . But the rest of the shtick I am not a big fan of. HateYanksDukeCowboys Posted April 23, 2015 Share Posted April 23, 2015 I came into the Man Cave with an admittedly negative view with low expectations, almost completely b/c of my disdain for Reid's overly pessimistic columns on the Redskins. And being a 40 year-old white guy I have to admit that I really like the show, and the African-American tilt it has. I like CP and think he's funny. The bit he did on the Manicure-Pedicure had me rollin, and the daily Coca Fresh segment is nice b/c it gives the show some variety. WHy would I want to hear them bash the Caps, Nats, and freak out about everything? The sports radio scene in this city is TERRIBLE. None of these mooks with the exception of Kornheiser is worth listening to. None. Not Chad Dukes, not the Junkies, not Grant and Danny, not Man Cave, nobody. We are talking about a city where our own people, our own sportswriters, constantly take offense with OUR OWN TEAM'S NAMES and our own city's athletes. John Feinstein went up on his soapbox and said Jayson Werth was a terrible human being. Jason Reid and everyone at the Post rips into the Skins all the time. UnWise Mike is a notorious troll and demands the name change of a long standing institution with not even a HINT of racial tendencies since the 1960's. It's not that much better on radio either, again Feinstein's comments, the Junkies tearing apart the Skins every chance they get...it is just terrible and no one should be listening to sports talk radio or local shows. Kornheiser doesn't fit most people's descriptions, and that's fine, but I've gotten so furious the last few days over the sports talk industry in this city. They just want to stir controversy and get you talking. Are you all aware the Junkies actually bet against the Caps? They're not fans. Every host in this city is bandwagon, fairweather, doesn't want local teams to win, constantly makes fun of them on air...I'm not saying we should be all positive and roses but a positive vibe is desperately needed. Yet all the city's hosts in this city talk **** and bash local teams mercilessly. They aren't fans. Negative talk will get ratings. So they'll just bash everything in existence instead of analyzing games. They're all entertainers. They don't care about local teams. They're not fans. NONE OF THEM ARE FANS. The truth of the matter is unless you go podcast sports talk you aren't going to find anything good, because this is an issue with the entire industry. And it's disturbing. People think that sports talk is cool because they talk sports. Listen, I like sports too. But sports talk is drama-filled and caller driven. Why do I care what Mike in Greenbelt or Dan in College Park thinks about the game? Sports Talk radio = ESPN Sportscenter. They are one and the same. Somewhere, along the way, we stopped analyzing the games and became focused on an industry with insulting local teams all for ratings. It's a business, people. It's not real sports talk. Dukes is a jerk and hangs up on callers he doesn't like. He is terrible. Grant and Danny are mediocre. Junkies are okay. Kornheiser brings the right amount of sarcastic wit but also tends to be like every other media personality in this town and overhype issues. For instance, after the Caps lost Game 3 the entire industry, every host in this city, freaked out and thought the series was over. Yet the Caps were able to extend it to 7 games. When the radio hacks start talking tomorrow, they will just bash the Caps some more and say they're terrible, even though the series was extended to 7 games and other teams in the playoffs have played 7 game series without the ****ing media in their town overreacting and saying the series is over. Do you all see the jaded slant that is prevalent in this city's media? Do you understand all they want is for our teams to lose so they can keep talking about it on the radio? It's ratings dynamite. Let's be honest, there's VERY LITTLE to be optimistic about this team. I'd rather they not pull any punches about how horrible the Redskins are. Optimism for the other area teams is warranted, they win games...the Redskins don't win games, they don't deserve a single modicum of respect. My issue is that the day after the Nationals, Wizards and Capitals win, you have donks who honestly rather talk about the RELEASE OF A SCHEDULE. I've flipped over about 5 times and each time they're talking about burgers. I think they're trying to establish a base. Every show on a sports station is going to cover sports. I think they're still trying to find their niche of non sports stuff they can talk about. The junkies have the entertainment report / porn / movies, Danny and Grant have food and star wars, Dukes has wrestling, etc. I think this is the most important thing for the show (or any show) to develop because its going to be what keeps people listening to the guys and not for coverage of a particular segment, or story or team. Guess I should have known better. Local radio doesn't talk hockey in this city unless something bad happens or the Caps choke. That's why I don't bother. All they want to talk about is Redskins and Wizards and occasionally Nats. Apparently talking hockey loses radio listeners according to a broadcaster, so they avoid talking about it on TV and radio.
