He doesn't impress me at all after experiencing the tongue-twisting fools I grew up listening to. They rapped about real ****. This hip hop phase has turned real rap in to an assembly line of crap.Just like rock from the 60's and early 70's. Those songs were written about REAL issues; hardcore life situations. Now every rock song is about breaking up with your girlfriend, and every rap song is about owning more ice than the next guy. It's PATHETIC. Thanks Kanye. I agree...altho I still think rock bands like Seether, Disturbed, Mudvayne cant EFFin jam....a lot of it is horrible today .. like hip hop.....whats sad is there may be a TON of good artists but never get no video or airplay because MTV is not about music anymore Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Because the majority of music purchasers are teeny boppers and people who go for an electronic beat with heavy bass and a catchy hook. No question. Does that mean that every artist who goes platinum is wack? Not at all. But there are plenty of artists, especially in hip hop/rap, that are completely wack who get mad props for no reason, in my opinion. I'll just use Lil' Wayne as an example, he spits jibberish and is wack. His music is terrible. Same thing with Kanye West. The real talent lies beneath the commerical watered down music, because you must remember that the majority of mainstream artists are making music specifically to make money. That is the definition of commercialism. KRS-One, Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, Buckshot, Wu-Tang, Aceyalone, Madlib, Insight, Black Milk, Masta Ace...these are the MCs and producers that are truly talented. But they make genuine music from the heart, hence they get less exposure. Because 15 year olds wanna hear songs about getting crunk and bling, sadly. Yea the 808's album was his worst work by far. But im a big Kanye fan(musically) so I actually enjoyed the album. You not being impressed is totally understandable. Everyone has their own opinions. Im sure there is artist you rank high on that I probably dont like. that was me...garbage may have been a little harsh...but ...in MY opinionI don't think he is close to being a top hip hop artist, by far...just an opinion tho Thats cool. Like I stated above, everyone has their own opinion. I personally think he is one of the best doing it. The fact that hip hop is at such a garbage state makes his music greater, but I believe that if he had done this ten years ago, he still would be a top of the list in regards to best artists. And it is sad that 13-17 year old girls drive hip hop sales because they love "Get Silly"...a sad state for hip-hop right now but we have Lupe, underground and old school records. Kanye is a producer. It's like saying Quinton Tarantino is a great actor. No, he acts in some of his movies, but he should stick to directing for the most part. I think the most enticing aspect of his music is the actual mix of it all, which can be done on Mario Paint. His lyrics and delivery are nothing special.
