ixcuincle
I saw some MLS when Beckham first signed on. For me , it's too low scoring. Plus I follow enough sports as is , baseball , football , basketball , the collegiate version of both , and the NHL...dont' have time to follow Barclay's Premiere League or whatever those across the pond call that and MLS edit : I've said this before when they were holding the Euro Cup...but hockey is essentially a faster-paced version of soccer on ice. Plus you can actually check people into the boards...and throw down. Soccer is pretty low on my hierarchy of sports , down with NASCAR and golf
renaissance
I would be interested to see the demographics for that. I'm sure they'll discover its all recent immigrants and hispanics. I don't know many native born Americans who'd ever even admit to watching european soccer, they'd get ridiculed for watching such a lame sport. that's ok, I'm sure they'll discover you're a doofus

ixcuincle
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7wxCZhf-JIIDo we really need to say anything else? I remember in one of the Euroleagues a goaltender named Dida , he was just standing in front of goal , this guy runs on the field and gives him this light slap and the goaltender just collapses on the ground...what the heck I never looked at it like that. This comment will ruin the MLS and make the NHL much more better. Hockey doesn't have ties either...at least not anymore. Blackest Eyes
lmao I dont know how you can say soccer is boring. It is 2 45 minute sessions of commercial free nonstop action. Saying baseball is more exciting than soccer is ridiculous. My Father is a huge fan of NASCAR and for the life of me, I cannot enjoy it unless it is a road course like Sears Point (wtf is it calleed now? or Watkins Glen). Aside from that, I think it is pure boring. Hockey is pretty kick ass too. But to say soccer is boring...lol. Watch the World Cup buddy.

cooleycollector47
I think it has a lot to do with our attention spans. Two 45+ minutes halves with no commericals, no challenges, no time outs, no off field commentating. We are use to the 5 minute clips of football and then we can distract ourselves with:food, the bathroom, run on extremeskins.com real quick, but with soccer you actually have to sit there and watch. If you get up you could miss the action, which would be like going to the bathroom during the 2 minute drill. I had a professor, who was a huge baseball fan, and would always tell us how do you guys watch football with all those commercial breaks? The answer is it's easy, we are younger and we have no attention spans. I like the commericals, half time, 2 minute drill, because I can get on the computer and do not have to devote all of my time to watching a 45 minute half. Jerome Bettis even said he pretended he was hurt to avoid getting cut. The NFL equal of diving=Quarterback/Kicker/Punter falling over from a little tap for a 15 yard penalty. endzone_dave
I love baseball, football, hockey, basketball, NASCAR (most any motorsports really). Heck, I'll even watch strong man competitions and the world series of poker. But when I see soccer, I always have to think WTF? Watching guys stand around and kick the ball back and forth to each other half a field away from the goal makes me want to take a nap. I just can't see how anyone could get excited about it other than pulling for their local team.
Dapo
i usually dont post but im shocked by the ignorance. I watch football, basketball and international soccer religiously. Of the three, soccer is the most exciting to me. Comparing european soccer to American soccer is like comparing sex to masturbation. Something i have figured out about Americans is that they hate something when they suck at it. This is a highlight clip of the best player in soccer. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qfF63HksSnE now show me a clip of the best player in Hockey or baseball or NASCAR...as tell me if it is as exciting as mine.. Destino
You are insane and a traitor to be frank. Baseball is way way way more exciting than soccer, its the second most exciting sport after football. It takes a ton of skill to hit a 90mph fastball, way more than anything in soccer where you just kick a ball how hard is that? traitor to what? Cuba's national sport? also kicking a ball is easy... grats on that factoid. Getting it into a goal with a goalie in front of it and at least 6 defenders in front of them? Not so easy. What happens more often goals in soccer or hits in baseball? They don't watch baseball and football because we dominate them and they have no chance against winning. Same with other sports, soccer is the only thing that gives other countries some relevance in sports. No chance at winning what? How does the US do in "world" baseball tournies? Is it Cuba (land of athletic wonder) or Venezuela that beats them? Maybe Japan? All the best players these days have names you can't pronounce. Also declaring superiority in football, a sport no other nation plays, is kind of useless isn't it? The sport the US rules, that is played by enough others to matter, is basketball. We absolutely laid the smack down with the redeem team.

Cherick
To the OP: Every sport has its fans. It just happens that in Latin America and Europe (And now maybe Asia and Africa), soccer is the greatest sport, it is easier to practice and play it in the streets, parks, etc. You have all kinds of competitions going on year-round and around the world between national teams as well as teams in national leagues, not to mention the Euro and the World Cup, while the NFL it's exclusive of the USA, with the few efforts we've seen of trying to make it popular outside of the country with very little success. So, if you hate the sport just try your best not to watch it, that's what I do with baseball and Nascar. But you cannot change the fact that soccer is the biggest, most popular sport in the world. Slateman
well soccer players run about 5 miles a game, hardly ever get long stoppage time for injuries, and play for 45 minutes straight. To be honest, I don't know how you can convince someone to watch football, with all the commercials. Wouldn't it be nice if football played for one full quarter instead of three plays and a break? Also, soccer is cheaper to play than football. You need a ball, essentially, and that's it. But nothing happens. Soccer is the perfect example of Socialism. The field is too big. Everyone shares. No one scores. Eventually, the people riot.
Toe Jam
I played soccer when I was a kid. I didn't hate it but it definitely wasn't my cup o' tea. Also, I laugh at those who think it requires no skill or talent whatsoever.

But seriously, these guys are running around non-stop for long periods of time. Also, they often use their heads to hit the ball (if this goes in taken of out context thread, I will cut somebody) and I don't think people appreciate how much that can hurt if you don't watch yourself. 81artmonk
First I have to disagree that it's sissy. It's takes great stamina to play the sport. I played it when I was in high school along with football and soccer by far takes more stamina. However, you are correct that it is boring to watch. Watching guys or girls run around for 3 hours or more and only scoring a few times is really taxing on the brain. To answer you question, most non-americans grow up playing it, so it's thier sport. Just like americans grow up playing baseball and football.
