Best James Bond movie

I met Richard Kiel when I was a kid. I was shocked he didn't have metal teeth.

I hope he wasn't as stupid as his character was, either.

Oh, I loathed those poor excuses for Bond movies. How many times did Roger Moore punch Jaws in his steel teeth, and then look pained?

The Best Bond Move for Each Actor that starred in more than one movie:

Connery- GoldFinger

Moore- The Spy Who Loved Me

Dalton- The Living Daylights

Brosnan- Goldeneye

My favorites: GoldFinger, The Man with a Golden Gun, The Living Daylights, Goldeneye, Casino Royale

You know what's funny; each of the successive actors were originally considered for the Bond role.

Roger Moore was considered for the role when they gave it to Connery. Timothy Dalton was considered for the role when they gave it to Moore. Everyone Knows Pierce Brosnan was given the role before the gave it to Dalton.

Okay I went back and edited Pierce's last name.

Bronson- Goldeye

Charles Bronson was never bond that I recall. ;)

And whoever said View to a Kill needs there head examined, that was one of the worst.

I'll go with Goldfinger, Diamonds are Forever, Casino Royale

One that I've always thought was very good, but I bet won't get many votes was The Living Daylights. (First Timothy Dalton film.)

I really liked his manarisms. I thought he actually came across as dangerous. (Something that I thought previous Bonds, even Connery, didn't show.)

I liked the way they showed (subtly) that he was using the girl. That he wasn't just screwing the best looking babe in the place, but was sticking with her because she was a lead. (That also struck me as Bond-like behavior.)

All things considered Dalton did the best he could stepping in after Roger Moore was so well known for so many years.

Gotta admit though Brosnan is still my favorite.

Think about all of the actors who have turned down the chance to play Bond over the years.

--Burt Reynolds (He has admitted that he madea mistake turning it down...was offered the role after Connery's last Bond)

--Mel Gibson (Turned it down after Dalton stepped down)

--Hugh Jackman (Turned it down after Brosnan was done)

Roger Moore was considered for the role when they gave it to Connery.

I thought Moore was to young to have done it, but apparently not.

According to Albert R. Broccoli's autobiography "When the Snow Melts", Roger Moore was Ian Fleming's choice to play Bond, largely based on his performance as "The Saint" (1962). This however is a misclaim as "The Saint" (1962) didn't begin airing in the UK until October 1962, one day after the premiere of Dr. No (1962).

Roger Moore was author Ian Fleming's original choice for Bond, but he was committed to "The Saint" (1962), he went on the play the role years later, as did David Niven in Casino Royale (1967).

The famous pose of Sean Connery holding a gun across his chest had to be redone at the last second. The Walther PPK was left at the studio, but the photographer had an old air pistol in his car. The gun in the picture is the air pistol

So they seem to contradict themselves.

I read quite some time ago something really interesting about Bond.

The trivia question was: Who did Ian Flemming want to play the first James Bond?

First gotcha: Dr. No was not the first Bond movie. The first Bond movie was a made-for-TV movie for (going from memory) CBS Wednesday Mystery Theater, and was Casino Royale.

But in those days "everybody knew" that Americans wouldn't watch a British secret agent. When the Bond books were published in the US, they were "translated". Cars had "trunks" instead of "boots", and James Bond was a CIA agent. He had a British friend named Felix Leiter.

So the question is really "Who did Ian Fleming want to play an American James Bond?"

And the answer was that, supposedly, Flemming wanted Jimmy Stewart to play Bond. Although I've also read reports that he was supposedly referring to a British actor by that name, not the It's a Wonderful Life guy.

On Her Majestys Secret Service was the best by far. Goldfinger and Casino Royale third. Lazenby was great for a one-timer as Bond. Connery was very good, Pierce was just a poser. Roger Moore was very underrated and the new one Craig acts like Ian Flemings real Bond but man he will never ever look the part. Overall Connery is the best Bond and OHMSS the best bond movie. And thats shaken not stirred.

I'm surprised that I haven't seen a single mention of From Russia With Love yet. While it wasn't the most gadgety, it was plotted and paced just like a novel. I loved that.

Plus you had the old lady with the poison spike shoe, the crazy gyspy woman fight, the first appearance of Q, and the great duke-it-out scene on the train between Connery and and big guy who taught Dolph Lundgren everything he knows.

To round out my top 3 with From Russia With Love (in no particular order) I'd have to pick Casino Royale and On Her Majesty's Secret Service. Putting them in order would be difficult, but Casino Royale makes an awfully good case for #1.

Goldfinger is probably the most iconic Bond movie, but I wouldn't put it in my top 3. Bond basically screws up repeatedly during the movie, and then watches some other guy defuse the bomb at the end. Bravo, James. :(

I always thought Dalton was pretty underrated. People constantly dump on him for whatever reason, but I don't see why. Whenever one of his two movies are on tv I stop and watch.

Yeah Dalton was underrated and was very much like the Bond in the novels.

Im a huge Bond fan, have read most of the books, own all of the movies, and i agree with Larry. Casino Royale was freaking great. Extra points for going back to Bond's roots of being a cold blooded killer instead of the Disney version of Bond that Brosnan played.

Good call, I add that one to my list. It's been so long since i've seen all those old Bond movies.

I haven't seen Casino Royale yet. I need to. The garbage that they've made since Roger Moore retired has soured me on the entire thing. But sounds like they're back on track

I was gonna have a fit until I saw you mention From Russia With Love... There is no doubt in my mind that it is the best Bond movie ever, including Casino Royale. As a matter of fact, all the elements that made Casino Royale great were first featured in FRWL. As a side note, I love seeing Bond in trains because those scenes are generally the most fleshed out, just as they are in the novelets.
