csnow03
The Redskins are in the top 10 for total offense. However, the average pts per game by these teams is 30.8. The skins scored 16. So, the skins have the personnel to score pts, by looking at the yardage production, they just need to find away in the endzone. <mod edited post>

Zen-like Todd
I'm aware of those stats, and I'm also aware that we played a top five defense from 2006. That said, We picked up about sixty yards on the hail mary, and another sixty on our overtime drive. Take those out, and we are firmly middle of the pack. oriolesfan93p
There it is. Thread over. Nice post. Are there a few other plays that you want to take out of the other teams offensive performances as well? just asking. It ticks me off every time someone wants to make our team out to be worse than it really is by saying "if you take out those 2 plays we looked poor" fact is those plays are in the game, and they count, and there is no taking them away. If Randle El had made that TD would you not want to count that pass still?
Taylor 36
We need to be able to throw up points. If we eliminate interceptions and dropped passes, we throw up points!!!
Popeman38
For all the naysayers in this thread, there is only on number that matters: +3. That is the margin of victory. How many times have we all said we will take an ugly W over a pretty L? I know I have! Also, Miami's defense is supposed to be one of the best in the NFL. They were #4 last year, and many "experts" say they only got better with the addition of Porter. That said, we hung 191 rushing yards on that "dominant" front 7. Zach Thomas made 1 impact play. Jason Taylor had 1 impact play. The DPOY had one impact play. Think about that. With a rusty LT and a rookie UFA playing tha majority of snaps at RT, the DPOY made one play behind the LOS. If we can maintain that level of o-line play, we will be ok. Additionally, we put up 400 yards of total offense. If the offense does that every game, we will make the playoffs. This was the first game of the season. Santana had a bad game, but ARE established himself as the #2 receiver. Now if Santana can get on track, this offense could put up HUGE numbers. Including on the scoreboard. At to that a possible top 10 defense - the secondary was iffy yesterday, but DAMN the run D looked stout. Carter had 1 sack, and missed by inches on AT LEAST 4 others. Griffin and Montgomery straight clogged the middle, allowing Fletcher and Macintosh to clean up the table scraps. There is a ton of upside to this D. Taylor and Landry really didn't have to do much yesterday. All in all, this team has potential. If Wade/Heyer can step in and establish themselves as a legit every down RT, look out. Just my :2cents:

Morneblade
The 'Phins had the most balanced top D in the league last year, ranked in teh top 5 against both the run and the pass. Moss dropped a couple passes I've never seen him drop before as well. Say what you will, you have to take into the consideration that we played a defense (with no help from the O last year) was one of the best. Points were going to be at a premium against them. The fact that we got as many yards as we did was very impressive, but then agian with our 2 back combo, running the ball in the 4th quarter and overtime is going to be something we should be able to do better than anyone in the league. And that is exactly what we did in OT.

pjfootballer
I know we're top 3 in rushing. That's a good sign from the preseason ineptness. The points will come as long as we move the ball. JC needs to get better at his completion percentage and when that happens, the points will be 7's instead of 3's. If Randle El had made that TD would you not want to count that pass still? I hate it when people take away a 60-yard run or a sixty-yard pass to prove that a player is not that good. But I think this is a legitimate argument - the overtime argument in particular. We played longer than everyone else last week. Also, the fact that we got over 100 yards once the clock expired is at least somewhat interesting.
iwasdoinit
In the past couple of years, you might not have seen plays like that third down pass to Cooley to keep the last drive alive. That was Cooley's only catch, but it was the play of the game. It's still early. The field goals will begin to turn to touchdowns.

Heck you could even say didn't he throw that ball in order to be completed anyway? So to me thats 60 yards that are not to be disregarded.

If Randle El had made that TD would you not want to count that pass still? Yeah, you're not the only one who thinks that the only thing more useless than an argument about stats is an argument about "stats if you selectively ignore parts of reality". OTOH, I do think that there are (rare) cases when a little selective ignorance may be called for. For example, the topic of discussion, here, is the fact that we got a lot of yards, but not many points. And, as part of that discussion, I think it's worthwhile to point out that a noticeable chunk of our "pointless yardage" came when a Hail Mary on the last play of the game took a really lucky bounce which resulted in a 54-yard "completion" on a play where a 54-yard completion was worth exactly the same as a sack: nothing. It didn't even affect field position. The only people who cared that that pass was a "completion" were the fantasy players. (And yes, I'd be saying the same thing if that play had been JC's third INT.)

tryfuhl
With our numbers we need to become clutch and make things happen consistently through a drive, especially when we get into scoring range and even moreso, the red zone.
