I had it 4-1 Cruz. A great card tonight. 'Very good fights.

Yeah, I agree 49-46 for Cruz. It was one of the better PPVs I've seen in a while.

Nice to see they had time to sneak in Melvin's fight between fights where people that missed it could see it.

yea very good card tonight including the prelims. still kinda bummed about wand getting ko'd that quick though.

Yeah, it's unfortunate to see Silva get the quick beat down.

I think he may want to consider hanging it up honestly. He's been on a steady decline for the most part the past 5 years and with his style it's just not going to rebound for him. One of the all time greats though.

You and me both sir. As much as I like Leben, that ruined my evening. I know Dana is saying he might be done, but I hope he gets one more fight at least. He needs to fight on the Brazil card.

that chin isn't getting any better, and i'd rather see him retire than end his career fighting the bottom tier & prospects at 185 who can add his name to their record

dude was left face down, ass up in 29 seconds :(

go away please Wandy

after a couple of more viewings, that Cruz/Faber match is one of the best i've seen this year

That card was awesome. Just a few things that haven't been mentioned...

Was that right hand from Tito short and ugly or what? Just goes to show you that technique isn't everything, Tito went after it and kicked Bader's ass. Bader's stock took a mighty hit last night. From being a fight away from a title shot to gatekeeper within the span of a year. He can really release that right hand well, but his footwork looks like he's stepping on hot coals. He's really gotta start refining his game to stay relevant. Tito's celebration was emotional and great to watch, even for a fan that rooted hard against him in the Liddell rivalry. If I could ask Tito one question, I'd ask him, "Let me tell you how you're feelin' right now?"

He was one of the best light heavyweights...of the night.

Say what you will about Wand's chin, I think it's more towards the fact that he gets caught by haymakers with his head moving towards them. Hendo, head on collision with the right hand, Rampage, T-boned by a hook, Leben, headbanged in to a few uppercuts. I think Raphael Cordeiro convinced him that the thai clinch was what he needed to reacquire, and he put too much faith in to it. You just don't see the thai clinch work as much as it used to, most UFC fighters know how to at least keep it off of them, even Rich Franklin did in his rematch against Anderson Silva. You still see it work when fighters immediately throw a knee as they clinch, but then they'll let go right away. Last I remember a seriously sustained thai clinch is when Machida threw about 500 knees against David Heath.

For lack of a better term, Wandy's gameplan was delusional, he was dreaming about the old days, and if you've been paying attention for the past 10 years...this sport evolves too quickly. He needs to get with a state of the art team, no offense to Mr. Cordeiro, but that is what I truly believe. You get caught all the time, you're a novelty, and your career is presently heartbreaking. Train smart, fight smart, or just tie the bow on a legendary career.

Yep. Same thing I was thinking. I was thinking about the Wand-Liddell fight where they essentially hit each other with shovels for 15 minutes, and how they both went downhill afterward. Chuck's slope was just steeper, I guess. Selfishly, I still hope he gets one more fight. But I don't know what I would do if I were in Dana's shoes.

Fightline.com : Machida Ready To Oblige Sonnen's Wish To Fight Him

Machida Ready To Oblige Sonnen's Wish To Fight Him

By Mark Wayne | July 05, 2011

Source: Tatame

Former UFC heavyweight champ Lyoto Machida vaulted himself back into the title picture by earning a spectacular second round Crane kick knockout over revered veteran Randy Couture.

Most believe that another impressive victory for "The Dragon" could establish the karateka as the number one contender at 205lbs. Thanks to the aggressive campaigning of returning middleweight Chael Sonnen, Machida may have his next fight already lined up.

"I don't know what the future holds," Sonnen said recently in an interview with MMAFighting.com. "There's plenty of guys out there to fight. There's a Karate guy at 205lbs. I might stop there on my way back to 185lbs. for a tune-up fight and take out [Lyoto] Machida, but we'll see, we'll see where it goes."

Machida was recently asked his thoughts on a fight with Sonnen in an interview with Tatame.com, and the elusive Brazilian asserted that it's a bout he would gladly accept.

"I think that's great, I'm excited to do that," said Machida. "He's coming back now, wants to fight, and I really think it's a good fight for me. If Sonnen really wants this fight, I'll sign it immediately, no problem at all."

Sonnen last appeared in action at UFC 117 in August of 2010 in a losing effort against Machida's teammate Anderson Silva. He was subsequently suspended for the improper disclosure of his testosterone replacement therapy and then suspended again for inconsistent statements he made during that hearing.

Wire fraud, doping, and an MMA career highlighted by a loss to Spider Silva. This fool talks a lot of trash and IMO doesn't deserve a fight with Machida. He needs to work his way up to anything resembling a big fight.

But the bottom line, is that it's a fight that will sell, right ? :)

I don't like that bottom line. In fact I hate the way fight sports are operated via arbitrary match ups by someone that functions as a fighter match.com. They need some method to the madness that turns them more into a real organized sport. Personally I'd like tournaments that span most of the year culminating in championship fights.

I'm not so sure I'd pay to see Sonnen fight anymore. Other than the Silva fight, he was never anything exciting to behold. In fact, the only reason the Silva fight is memorable is because Sonnen NEVER looked that good before that night. He was clearly maxing the steroids and looking good against a hurt opponent. Machida would kill him, IMHO.

I've always said the UFC themselves need an official ranking system. The closest you get to rankings in the UFC is Dana declaring some fighter "in the mix".

Someone is leaving the cage missing a limb:

Report: Charles Oliveira vs. Joe Lauzon likely at UFC 138

by Eduardo Ferreira

After a polemical ‘no contest’ against Nik Lentz, Brazilian lightweight Charles “do Bronx’s” Oliveira is expected to return to the UFC cage at November 19th, against fellow submission specialist Joe Lauzon.

According to Oliveira’s trainer, the bout is expected to take place at UFC 138. “They spoke about a possible rematch (against Nik Lentz), but he’ll have to go under surgery, so the opponent might be Joe Lauzon”, Ericson Cardozo told TATAME Tuesday night.

A The Ultimate Fighter season 5 contestant, Lauzon is coming from a submission victory over Curt Warburton, a kimura which gave him the ‘submission of the night’ bonus. At the same night, Oliveira tapped Lentz with a rear naked choke, but the win was overturned to a ‘no contest’ due to an illegal knee seconds before the tap.

UFC 138 is expected to have Cain Velasquez vs. Junior dos Santos as the main event, for the heavyweight title.

This card is already shaping up nicely.

I think the LW division is my favorite in the UFC right now. Between these two, Melvin Guillard, Edson Barboza, Anthonly Njasdfsdfalfkjdfasdfasd, Jim Miller, Anthony Pettis, Ben Henderson, Clay Guida and of course Edgar and Maynard, this division is full of exciting fights.

Not to mention, Gil Melendez will probably make his way over at some point.

Sonnen is at it again:

'Bums, immigrants & phonies' - Sonnen blasts Brazilians

ESPN staff

Chael Sonnen has launched a severe bashing of Brazil's biggest MMA stars, calling Lyoto Machida a "bum", claiming Anderson Silva "sucks", and telling Wanderlei Silva he is an "immigrant".

Sonnen seems more determined than ever following his return from suspension to aggravate as many big names as he can. The American has already called out Machida by mocking his karate background, and now a fight seems on the cards for UFC 136 in October.

"I always hear these guys saying that they want the hardest fights possible," Sonnen told MMA Fight Corner presented by FiveKnuckles.com. "Well I don't. I'm a fan of easy fights. That's why I called Anderson Silva out. Because he sucks.

"I guess I could go up to heavyweight. Who's this other bum that their letting back in with the chequered shorts? Cro Cop? That'd be a nice night off. You know, there are so many guys out there that say they want the toughest guys and I think, "Really?" What I want is the biggest name, with the most atrocious record, in the hugest venue, for the most money.

"There's a man you may have heard of called Randy Couture, and Machida took one of his teeth. And for that I'm going to take three of his. But, I'm not only willing to take on Machida just because of Randy, it's also that easy fight thing and I'm trying to ease my way back into the pool so I'm calling out bums."

Reflecting on his loss to Silva, when Sonnen dominated four rounds before losing to a late submission, the controversial American maintains he proved he is the true champion.

"I destroyed [Anderson Silva] on the ground. That wasn't even a competition. That wasn't even remotely a close fight, so to act like, after he threw up a hail-mary pass after I punched him 300 times, is ridiculous."

Sonnen's most brutal bashing was saved for Wanderlei Silva though, a man who warned Sonnen that he would "kill him", before getting knocked out by Chris Leben at UFC 132.

"Wanderlei tells me that he's going to send me to the dentist. And I'm thinking, 'the receptionist generally sets those appointments, but if you know the phone number to my local dentist, I guess you could.' Then I'm thinking, 'Is he threatening me? I'm an American gangster, you are an immigrant from Brazil. Are you sure you want to go down this road with me? That's a threat?

"Hey Wanderlei, let me give you a threat. I will cut the power to your house and do a home invasion. You will hear me climbing up the stairs in a pair of night vision goggles I bought in the back of 'Solder of Fortune' magazine. The next thing you'll hear is me picking the lock of your bedroom door and taking a photograph of you in bed with the Nogueira brothers working on your jiu-jitsu. I will post said photograph at www.DorksFromBrazil.com with password: not required, username: not required.

"It's funny when Wanderlei says he's got to defend Brazil. Wanderlei's not popular in Brazil. Wanderlei, you are from Brazil stupid, you left it. You pay taxes in America. You started a business in America. You send your kids to an American school. You employ Americans. You were made a millionaire by an American company. If you love Brazil so much, why'd you leave it?

"It's because he doesn't and the Brazilian people know that. So this big gimmick that all these guys like Anderson and all these guys that talk Portuguese and pretend they're from there, what they like to do is act like, 'Oh, we're not Americanized, we haven't even learned English, but then they run their businesses in complete English as they're taking your dollar and your mastercard. But on video they act like they haven't taken the time to learn English and it's phoney. Those Brazilians are all phoney and they suck."

Ol Chael is going to get himself hurt. But unfortunately he has figured out how to make a little money before that happens though.

He is going to pull the reverse Brock and end up in the WWE after he gets knocked around a little.

He should stop running his mouth and start learning submission defense.
