http://mmajunkie.com/news/16888/report-randy-couture-vs-mark-coleman-in-the-works-for-ufc-109.mma

A light heavyweight matchup between UFC Hall of Famers Randy Couture (17-10 MMA, 14-7 UFC) and Mark Coleman (16-9 MMA, 7-4 UFC) is in the works for UFC 109.

Sherdog.com was the first to report that the two former UFC heavyweight champions have verbally agreed to the contest.

If signed, the bout will take place on Feb. 6 in Las Vegas.

Coleman debuted for the UFC in 1997 and earned the UFC 10 tournament title with wins over Don Frye, Gary Goodridge and Moti Horenstein. "The Hammer" also holds significant career wins over Mauricio "Shogun" Rua, Allan Goes, Igor Vovchanchyn, Kazuyuki Fujita and Dan Severn.

The soon-to-be-44-year-old Coleman left the UFC in 1999, but he returned to the organization in 2009. The Ohio native dropped his first bout to Rua in January, though he earned a unanimous-decision win over "The Ultimate Fighter 1" finalist Stephan Bonnar at July's UFC 100 event.

Couture's career briefly overlapped Coleman's after "The Natural" debuted at UFC 13 in 1997. The pair was scheduled to meet at UFC 17 in 1998, but a Couture injury forced the cancellation of the bout.

While Couture fought six times outside of the UFC, "Captain America" has spent the majority of his career inside the octagon. Couture fought most recently at this past weekend's UFC 105 event in the U.K., and he earned a hotly contested unanimous decision win over Brandon Vera.

The contest is expected to take the co-feature slot on the UFC 109 card, though it could certainly take top billing if Anderson Silva's rehabilitation process prevents a planned contest with Vitor Belfort from taking place.

this will either be really really good or disgustingly horrible

Should be some great fights. I'll take Brown by TKO late.

Sad the WEC cards are getting as good as the UFC cards. Seriously. So many good fights to be had in the UFC, and we're relegated to boxing cards.

I respect Couture, and I respect his ability at his age, but he will win by technique. No umph in those punches anymore. Big Nog made him look silly. Money triumphs boys, and the anti-boxing establishment Dana "I'm a ****ing hypocrite" White has turned. :(

They must really be feeding Randy the bums now. I guess they want to make him look good going into retirement. I was having this conversation in here the other day, but I think it would be more beneficial to have him fight the up & comers so presumably if they beat him, they make a name for themselves and help to carry on the torch. I think Rashad should've taken this fight.

I can't wait, I finally have Versus back because I couldn't get DirecTV in my new apartment.

Speculation is what message boards are made of. We speculate about politics, sports, and what fighter would kick another fighters ass.

You are right, but I think at this point, we are beating a dead horse. You seem very convinced in your view, which is absolutely fine. I could very well be wrong in my line of thinking, it has happened before :D.

I am sure he has used something at some point, probably a lot of it. But the only thing that we disagree on is the timeline of when he used something and whether his current condition could have something to do with PED use. But the bottom line, is we do not have any concrete evidence to support anything. We all have our opinions, and until we know anything different...

Grrr...yeah we were discussing this the other day regarding Hughes-Gracie. I agree with you 100%, I am more interested in Randy-Coleman than Hughes-Gracie, but not a whole lot more. Putting Randy against a younger fighter, like we saw Saturday, would make more sense.

Unless Dana thinks a fight against guys like that would not be competitive, which I disagree with. The Couture-Vera fight was not terribly exciting, but Randy fought like he needed to in order to win. And a Couture-Coleman fight, while nostalgic, has the potential to not be terribly exciting either. It could be a hell of a wrestling match, but that may not exactly appeal to the general public.

But the more I think about it, who is Coleman going to fight? I guess it makes sense from his perspective. The Tito fight made sense, but of course, that did not work out. I don't think putting him in against a younger fighter makes a lot of sense. I don't think Coleman is making a title run anytime soon, and if a younger fighter beats Coleman, it would not carry the same weight as beating Couture.

WEC 44: We Matter Too Dammit!

Shane Roller vs. Danny Castillo: Roller's former wrestling champ with bad standup. castillo standup is decent but it wont matter as he gets taken down repeatedly. roller's bjj isn't that good, so maybe castillo gets lucky with a sub.

Roller by (T)KO, 2nd Round

Rob McCullough vs. Karen Darabedyan: dont know much about Darabedyan other than it couldn't have been an easy childhood with "Karen" as your first name. Razor Rob has looked shell shocked ever since he lost his title. i'm going with the upset for no apparent reason

Darabedyan by Split Decision

Leonard Garcia vs. Manny Gamburyan: garcia has the power to flatline anybody at 145, gamburyan's chin wasn't that good at 155. then again, garcia's wrestling is terrible, especially considering the camp he comes from. manny has great strength for the weight and good judo.

Gamburyan by Unanimous Decision (will be a boring fight i think)

Mike Brown vs. Jose Aldo: we have the consensus #1 FW in the world, against one of the brightest prospects in all of MMA. brown has great power in his strikes, but he would be a fool to test Aldo's standup game. Aldo is extremely quick, and his precision is just so precise (shout out to Mike Goldberg). Brown should use his old-man strength to be the first one to really test Aldo's ground game. problem is Aldo's training partners say his ground game is better than his standup, scary thought.

i think this will hit the ground, and i think Aldo will get to show off that asset of his game. in the 2nd fight with Faber, Brown fell into a couple of chokes that Faber couldn't finish due to the broken hands. if that happens tonight, i see aldo being able to finish him off.

i dont expect this fight to be easy for either fighter. at the end of the day, i see Brown running into one of Aldo's deadly combinations as he tries to get close enough for a takedown. that flurry will lead to some quick but violent ground n pound that will end the fight and give Aldo the belt

Aldo by (T)KO, 3rd Round

I guess I'm the only one really looking forward to it. I think it is great test for both fighters for opposite reasons. They are the same age, they are legends, and neither one of them has any quit in them. I think it can be a great fight. Coleman just hung in their with Shogun. He'll give Randy a fight. Their wrestling will keep it standing long enough for a lot of exchanges.

You were near perfect on your picks tonight.

Darabedyan got the split, Manny got the UD, and Aldo finished via TKO, except in was in round 2. However, when Mazzagatti's reffing, a TKO's always a safe bet, because you know he'll stop the fight whether it's warranted or not lol.
