A good performance by Tito could be a nice shot in the arm for the UFC after all of the fight shuffling and cancellations.

This is a good point. And the more I think about it, Tito and Forrest both have something to prove in this fight. I'm hoping they come out and fight like it. Because like you said, the UFC definitely needs someone to step up right now and give it a spark.

Aside from acting like a little ***** when he lost, of course.

I'm a Forrest fan. I never thought he was as good as he was hyped to be but I like Forrest the character. Before he fought Rashad he had the biggest heart in the UFC. I noticed the decline in his confidence after that fight. He became more self-deprecating than ever before. He basically played Michael Spinks leading up to the Silva fight. His big heart gave it shot and it got broken along with his confidence. He sees Tito as beatable because the world sees Tito as beatable but Griffin is going to have to work his butt off to beat Ortiz. I wonder if he can avoid ground and pound from a (allegedly) healthy GnP specialist. The one thing that Tito won't have is the punching power to knock Griffin down and dazed. That's where the other guys have gotten him. Jardine and Evans landed nice shots while standing and took advantage of the moment to pound him out. I think Tito will have to get his first big shot in while on the mat and in the guard.

I pronounced Rich Franklin a broken fighter after his losses to Silva and I was way wrong. I'm gonna stop short of calling Griffin broken but I think his mind is messed up right now. He needs to beat Tito standing and end it or he's going to lose a decision or be GnPed. A healthy Tito is a lot to handle for a sloppy fighter like Forrest.

UFC 106: injuries suck (spike tv will show davis/saunders & rosholt/grove at 9pm)

Kendall Grove vs. Jake Rosholt: standing grove will have a decisive edge, but i cant imagine grove being able to stop rosholt from taking him down. this fight basically comes down to whether Rosholt can survive in Grove's active guard. i say yes

Rosholt by Unanimous Decision

Marcus Davis vs. Ben Saunders: Saunders should have a sizeable reach advantage in the fight and should use it to stay away from the power hands of Davis. Davis is still trying to convince people he beat Dan Hardy, i dont think his mind is fully on Saunders

Saunders by Unanimous Decision

Amir Sadollah vs. Phil Baroni: Baroni has the obligatory punchers chance in this one. his cardio should be good for about 45secs, after that Sadollah should be able to cruise to a victory. if Amir cant win this one, that says alot about his future

Sadollah by Submission, Round 2

Paulo Thiago vs. Jacob Volkmann: Thiago's standup technique isn't that great. never seen Volkmann's standup. Thiago is great on the ground, but so is Volkmann. Volkmann is a 3 time ncaa all-american wrestler and trains with Lesnar's camp in Minnesota. he also won the NoGi World Championships one year so he's got a quite formidable submission game himself. i say his wrestling will allow him to get top position and control the fight.

Volkmann by Unanimous Decision

Rogerio Nogueira vs. Luiz Cane: Cane is very aggressive in his standup, but Lil Nog is more technical. he's basically Big Nog with better standup. Nog hasn't been fighting the best comp since pride folded, and he's looked a little lackluster despite the victories. Cane showed a bit of fatigue in the 3rd round against Cantwell when they fought. if cane is going to win he'll want to try and end it early. i think Lil Nog will prove to be a bit too technical on the feet, leading to close victory.

Lil Nog by Split Decision

Josh Koscheck vs. Anthony Johnson: if Koscheck remembers that he's one of the best wrestlers in MMA this could be a much easier fight for him. lately he's been suffering from "Sean Sherk Syndrome" and standing with people who are better strikers. Koscheck had trouble taking down Alves due to his size, Johnson is bigger than Alves and actually has a collegiate wrestling background (JUCO Champ, obviously nowhere near Kos' level) so he might prove tougher to take down than people think. i think Koscheck will make the mistake of standing too long with Rumble and will taste the power that Rumble possesses in the standup game

Johnson by (T)KO, Round 2

Forrest Griffin vs. Tito Ortiz: Forrest was mentally broken by Anderson Silva. Tito was broken by a bad back. Tito hasn't won a fight since beating Ken Shamrock, and hasn't beaten anybody with a pulse since he beat Forrest in 2006. this fight comes down to which has recovered more: forrest's mindset or tito's injuries. neither has ever been known for power in the standup department. forrest has become more technical, but still nothing special. Tito has shown a better chin than forrest, but thats not really saying much. all in all, i just cant see tito returning to form after being away for more than a year. i dont think he'll be successful with the takedown attempts which will lead to forrest scoring points on the feet, albeit not doing much damage.

Forrest Griffin by Unanimous Decision

Brandon Vera's wife just beat the hell out of Randy's ex-wife

that girl got some nice standup skill

her technique is better than just about everybody on the current season of TUF

edit: on another note Tyron Woodley is a beast, one of the best prospects in MMA

grove pulled off a hell of a submission. Didn't think he had it in him, I don't have a hell of a lot of confidence in him as a fight.

that triangle was more on Rosholt having almost 0 knowledge of defensive jiu-jitsu

grove did good for noticing it and capitalizing it, but rosholt's sub-defense is horrible

if they ever put baroni on another card i'm protesting on general principle

a heavy bag would've offered more resistance

No cardio at all. He landed some heavy heavy shots in the first 40 seconds but amir's chin was good enough to keep him awake. After that it was just a systematic beating.

little Nog is a monster. Nice change of pace from the bad fighting I've seen so far.

This has been the best fights I've seen for a long time.

Dent vs. Sotiropoulos was good.

Saunders vs. Davis was good.

Amir vs. Baroni was good.

No complaints thus far.

If "finish" is the definition sure. Dent sucks. Davis was outclassed entirely, but was good. Baroni was a disaster. All one sided affairs without much competition.
