He was 81. Knotts died Friday night of pulmonary and respiratory complications at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Beverly Hills, said Paul Ward, a spokesman for the cable network TV Land, which airs "The Andy Griffith Show," and another Knotts hit, "Three's Company." Unspecified health problems had forced him to cancel an appearance in his native Morgantown in August 2005. The West Virginia-born actor's half-century career included seven TV series and more than 25 films, but it was the Griffith show that brought him TV immortality and five Emmies................................. Hokie_Skinz
That is sad. I have at least 3 or 4 Don Knotts movies (ghost and mr chicken, the incredible mr limpett, etc) and I grew up watching Andy Griffith show reruns. He was very funny. HailSkinz1
My wife has always teased me because he was my favorite actor. I know, I don't get out much, but The Ghost and Mr. Chicken, The Incredible Mr. Limpit, and the Reluctant Astronaut are just classics! And of course his many great TV roles. RIP Barney Fife. JimboDaMan
What a shame. He was one of the funniest guys around. I'm not ashamed to say there's quite a few of his lines I've been known to drop every now and then. Barney Fife might have been the funniest character ever created for TV. Sarge
That's too bad. It's always good to watch Andy every once in awhile and get a laugh. Anybody have any favorite Barney episodes? There's one on right now where he got some kind of mytic box with the spirit of a count in it and it gives three wishes
