Here in Hotlanta....sup?

I was leaving Atlanta yesterday by road, going east on I-20.

Had a hairy encounter on the interstate, and my Atlanta friend an I had a bit of a debate about it. These are the facts ;

It was a 3 lane highway (each direction, of course). I was in the center lane. I was doing 7 mph over the speed limit, and on cruise control to be sure.

A tractor trailer decides to ride my ass for almost 10 minutes. Literally. I look in my rear view mirror, and the whole time,

all I see is the grill of this massive truck. I don't know about anyone else, but that experience, for that length of time can

be quite distressing.

As far as I knew, I was doing nothing wrong. I could not go any faster, or risk getting a speeding ticket. I was in the center lane,

so as far as I knew, I was not in a 'passing' lane. Obviously, I'm not going to get in the left lane at this point. It was my understanding,

that I was 'in the right' as long as I was not in the far left lane. If he wanted to pass me, he had 2 lanes to choose from.

But my friend said, that in the state of GA, that he legally cannot go around me. So it was almost like she was taking his side.

I didn't quite understand that. I do know and  understand, that I've seen signs saying that trucks cannot use the left lane. Even if that's true, he still

had 2 options. One, he could have gotten into the far right lane. Or this would be the most ideal - have him slow down, and NOT

practically barrel through my trunk for 10 solid minutes. Am I really supposed to move out of the center lane, and into the far right lane to accomodate him ?

I guess one of the big questions, is,, is the center lane considered just as much a "passing lane" in this instance, as the far left lane ?

Trucks are only allowed in the right 2 lanes. There are signs, but I have absolutely no doubt that you were too freaked out to see them.

So sorry you had to go through that. He could've at least backed off and "maintained a safe distance". :taz:

If the flow of traffic is such that tractor-trailers are going X mph, then you should be going X+3 mph at a minimum.  Or, alternately, X-3 mph if you’re a slow driver.  Under no circumstances should you spend 10 minutes in the shadow of a big rig because of concerns over legality.  Use your common sense.

I say this as someone that has made the 900 mile drive from Richmond to SoFla and back at least 50 times over the last 30 years.

As I got older and especially with a camper attached, I drive in the right lane. If a car in front of me is going slow, I will slow too. It's not worth it to me to drive really fast anymore. And this from someone who regularly drove up to 95mph on I-95 going to Miami and back to Alexandria multiple times (except in SC). Even today, I drove out to Kingsland TX to see the bluebonnets, I pulled to the right several times to let faster drivers by.

Maybe it's an age thing.

I can see that - except in my circumstance. Because I was already going the maximum speed I could go, without risking a ticket (limit + 7mph)

I will not do 3-plus on top of doing 7-plus to accomodate anyone, (which of course equates to 10-plus) since that means I am at risk of a speeding ticket.

If there is anything I should have done, it was to temporarily move from center to far right. But even then, that seemed at least debatable under the circumstance.

lol those tripadvisor and yelp reviews so ridiculous at this point

it's why I mostly use google maps because people try to avoid hyperbole. But I usually check through the overall average

I don't trust practically any reviews, or even averages, including gOOgle's.

So many of them are written by employees, friends, relatives, acquaintenances, of the businesses.

But it also provides a good look at where there's something good to eat. How do you know the quality of service if you don't check the ratings first.

That being said seeing people complain is hlarious. "McDonalds. 2.5" What do you expect. "Walmart. 2.0. WALMART IS A BAD PLACE" Well I can get 5 dollar blank shirts at Walmart.

I seen that happen in hotel reviews.

People go to a 3-Star hotel, and then expect 5-Star service.

When they don't get it, they rate it only 1-Star.

Or something along those lines.

Just because you can buy stuff cheap at Walmart doesn't make it a great or even good store.  For the most part, their customer service is busted.  I should say, lack there of, because it seems like when you need someone, nobody's ever around.  And purchasing anything in electronics that would be in a locked case usually turns into an adventure.

It usually goes one of three ways:

1.  The person with the key to unlock the cases is nowhere to be found and they page them multiple times or go into the stock room looking for them or both.

2.  The person with the key is alone, with a line of customers to check out and you're just screwed until they are finished.

3.  Nobody can be found in the department and you start your own search and rescue trying to find anyone, in any neighboring departments in hopes of finding the missing Gollum and the precious (key).  And when you do, they usually have to go looking for them too.

And returning items can be a big pain in the ass.  One time I purchased a game on Xbox 360, get home, open it up (shrink wrapped) and the ****ing disc was missing.  So I already knew this was going to require more effort and be more frustrating to return it and get it replaced.  Returns was packed, they had one person working, big line of people.  One worker was on her lunch break, but instead of eating in the break room, was literally sitting there eating and talking to the one worker distracting her even more.  Turns out the person on break was her manager.........after waiting 30 mins to get to them and explain what happened, with them looking at me like I was lying, they finally process the return to allow me to swap it out for another copy.

It took another 30 mins to get someone in electronics to get to returns to assist.  It was the same girl that had checked me out earlier and for some reason, this time, was acting like I was going to mug her and rob them.  I had to walk back to electronics with her and when she went to unlock the case, I was standing about four feet from her to the side.  She freaks out and points to a spot on the floor and tells me I need to stand right there (it was something crazy like 10 feet away from her).  I think the **** dropped some acid on lunch break or something and was tripping.......since Walmart, more likely meth..........because just over an hour earlier, she got the game out for me while standing in basically the same spot and distance from her, nice as she could be.

Then she escorted the game back to returns and kept looking at me all weird and ****.  I think I called her a psycho **** to the returns people, I know I made some comments, most likely ones that included the words **** and **** in it.

And if that's not enough, they never have enough registers open up front.  EVER!  They have something like 25 registers and 2-4 open, with lines running 30 deep each into the other departments.  You see like 10+ people all walking around and they never call for anyone to open up another register to clear out the customers.

Glad you enjoy their cheap shirts, but Walmart ****ing sucks.

I sat next to a WalMart supplier at a recent event. Walmart runs awesome game. A) You can't get into Walmart if your product doesn't sell out in 30 days or less. B.) Walmart's payment terms are sixty days net. So, for those keeping score at home, They take your merchandise for free. Sell it in 30 days or less. Hold onto the cash earning interest for another 29 days then they pay you, with, basically, your own money.

Thing that gets me, and this is usually in Dollar General stores or others, is so many things locked up, that have no business being locked up.

Things that are worth less than $10, or things that became technologically obsolete over a decade ago.

All that you state is the price YOU pay as a patron of WalMart. You exchange low prices for low quality and poor service. I don't shop there anymore for this reason. I'd rather pay a bit more at, say, Target and have a good shopping experience and (slightly) better quality than WalMart.

Additionally, WalMart, squeezes all their suppliers to trim pennies off their products. They have consultants go in and tell you how to build your product so it can be cheaper. Yes, most likely, it's of an inferior quality even for the same brand if you buy it at WalMart.

Since I rarely go into brick and mortar stores unless I have to—I opt for the good shopping experience.
